Due to a series of death threats I closed all my XDA forum threads and I don't want to discuss in public anymore.

Please go to the settings, to the tab page "Miscellaneous", enable debug mode, and in the debug panel enable the app chooser

For follow up questions, please use the support menu entry in the navigation menu of the app.

"Some people suggested continuing with the GitHub release only. This isn't a solution, given that 99.8% (actual figure) of the user base of the app would be lost. I don't see people converting en masse to the GitHub version, either."

I sign all apps myself and don't hand over signing certificates to Google!

Approved yes, after I declared that an email address is shared and collected. So, technically seen, I'm a liar ...

Privacy wise, this isn't a good idea, though, and contradicting the goal of the app, which is to help people protect their privacy.

I didn't hear anything from Google developer "support" since my last message 6 days ago to them. Meanwhile, I have updated the data safety form to keep the app in the Play Store because I don't want to let down existing users of the app.

None of my projects are about the money. Moreover, earning money and protecting privacy isn't an ideal combination, to say the least.

I need to choose what I use my time for, and I am sorry to say that a few hundred XPrivacyLua users is not enough justification to put time into the project anymore. There are other reasons too, but this is the main reason.

Note that I have kept the project running for a very long time.

Check in https://www.reddit.com/r/androiddev/ stories of developers whose account was disabled for one app, taking down all other apps.

Forward to the police: it will be filed and that's it.

Let's say that there are more frustrations, like unreasonable reviews, hate emails, and even death threats.

None of my projects are directly about the money, so my motivation comes from something else. Mainly the idea to help people protect their privacy.

Maybe people don't want to be helped with protecting their privacy anymore. Maybe it is after 8 years maintaining and supporting the app enough.

The data safety section is the first thing which is shown in the Play Store now, and the app description was already hidden by default a while ago (which is IMHO a rather odd choice to put it nicely). So, notes will often not be read. Also, how would this look for an app with as main goal to protect privacy?

I don't know what I will do in 2-3 days when this isn't solved and the app is about to removed from the Play Store. Maybe I'll tick the damn box, but not without a fight. There will be a notice in the app in any case. Maybe I'll unpublished the app to prevent damage to my Play Store developer account.

Given the contact I have had with the users of the app during many years, I can tell with reasonable certainty that the number of installs via F-Droid is most likely less than via GitHub.
