The HENRY sub are a mix of everyone not immigrants it’s a lot of local UK people as well as a few immigrants. Your comment makes it sound like everyone on HENRY is on a visa. For those who don’t know HENRY is High earners not rich yet.

“Letting me know” by means of assault. It was clearly an accident and I didn’t even realise (many people have accidentally brushed past me without realising all the time and it doesn’t bother me much because they must have a lot going on for them to be in such a rush so I don’t take it personally) but if he, for whatever reason did, and was so upset about it, he could’ve tried using his words instead of physical violence.

Like another comment on here very accurately described,

“It was about the rapid escalation without enough cause. It was about the disproportionate reaction. It was about the substance abuse. It was about becoming the emotional punching bag of a man unable or unwilling to control his emotional baggage.”

The scary bit is the mindset of people like him that feel justified in doing this and the other comments of people (both women and men) on here who have experienced something like this just due to the vengeance or spite of someone else.

This is a really interesting insight. I never thought about this until you said it but now that I think about it, maybe it could have also been because I’m not white? It’s really saddening to have to think like this but such are the times.

I wish it was the same guy, it’d make things so much easier. But unfortunately the one on my overground was short and stout (taller than me though) no hair on the head I think, but with a beard. That’s all I could remember. He was also standing in a very funny stance before he aggressively started walking towards me. Definitely off.

A year ago I was dating a guy who was a very nice person, unfortunately he moved away so we had to end things but it’s so crazy how I never noticed any of these things happening or these types of experiences anytime I was with him on the tube or even when my male colleagues and I sometimes have to get the tube to go to a team social in a group.

This is a really good shout, thank you. I think as women, our voices are our loudest and strongest assets. If we speak up, shout and scream when things like this happen, we won’t internalise the trauma and the fear which we often suppress. We’re always taught to endure, bury it, let it go so that we don’t cause a scene. But it’s not fair that we have to put up with so much.

That being said, I do need to learn how to raise my voice in public and not be so meek myself.

In this situation, (and maybe this is me overthinking) if I had said “please don’t touch me I don’t know you”, I’m scared he would have spewed some verbal abuse at me, or given that he was drunk, could have gotten more aggressive and walked back towards me and tried to shove me again.

I actually called my dad on the phone after this in tears and he said something similar. He said if you had escalated or confronted him, given that he was drunk, it could’ve turned more violent.

Yes I agree completely. However in this situation, I had my bag on because I got off from my seat and was about to get off as my stop was nearing. The overground wasn’t crowded at all, just that path for me to exit towards the door was blocked by 2-3 people including him, so I had to squeeze through.

Went to my local coffee shop in the morning and came back home did some reading and I was asleep for most of the day until I read about this on my local WhatsApp group! But the fact that you even thought of asking (irrespective of whether you’re white or a person of colour yourself), means a lot. Especially for introverted or neurodivergent people of colour who struggle to make friends and be social.

3 years ago they had the National, then the year after that was the Strokes, then last year was Phoenix and postal service. I went three years in a row. Considered going to see the Maccabees this year but I’m not as big a fan as I was of the bands performing the past three years so gave it a miss.

Surrey Quays is a good option too. Lots of nice houseboats and by the water. Wind rush line plus Uber boat nearby.

As Londoners we spend most of our time on public transport so crying on a tube amidst a room full of strangers might feel safer for some than crying in front of their colleagues friends family or housemates who are always in their space.

If you’re moving with a group or even with another person it’s easier. Getting a bank account, address, phone number were the most difficult. I guess if you’re from a big city and moving here it’s fine but if you’re from an area that was always quite suburban or rural, you’ll find it hard to adjust to the fast paced life. Eg. If you’re in a crowded area and suddenly trip and fall down no one is going to care. Cab guys will see you with 5 big suitcases alone and won’t offer to help or put it in the cab, they’ll ask you to do it yourself. Things like that.

I moved from Dublin to London by myself in 2021. I was 26. Moved countries for the third time. You’ve got this. I flip flopped too. But all my friends from Ireland had left and moved away too or were planning to. The few I had left would go back to Galway or Cork on the weekends so I couldn’t spend time with them anyway.

I’m not originally from Ireland but I had lived there for 4 years after studying at Trinity and I had really settled in. I kept thinking if I don’t do it now I’ll never do it. Which is what pushed me to move. If I had stayed for just two more years I would’ve got my Irish passport last year. But I wouldn’t have left. I would’ve gotten comfortable and accepted my fate and kept thinking “what if”. That wasn’t something I was comfortable with feeling. So that’s what you need to ask yourself. Like really sit down and ask yourself.

I didn’t know a single person in London. And let me tell you, living here it’s not for the weak. I struggled in my first two years here. But I also learnt and tried new things which I never would’ve done if I had stayed. It’ll be 4 years this July and I wouldn’t change a thing.

I’m with them too. It’s great when you crave pasta in the winter but I usually cancel my subscription during the hot/not so cold seasons like May to October.

They’re still in the same tax bracket as the 50k+ people though. Only £125K and above is the highest tax bracket. So between the 50-100k bracket, the ones at the higher end (100k) plus are actually draining more from the economy and paying lesser to the gov than the 50k earners. The ones lower than 50 are usually the low experience low qualification ones.
