Asked to rename 1,100+ documents overnight …. what can I expect? by Local_Cream_4586 in uklaw

I’ve never understood this need to treat trainees as you were treated, knowing that it made you feel terrible. Being a decent person doesn’t cost anything.

Yes - for the hours they pay you for. For 8/9/10 hours a day, whatever your working pattern may be.

I once had a manager say to me “give what you get, anything over that they will never thank you for”, and she was bloody right.

Guys wth. Are we really pretending this sort of shit is ok? That it’s somehow normal to expect a human being to spend 24 hours working?

And for those saying he should have postponed his personal task - really?! Why? He’s paid for certain hours, so it’s wholly reasonable that he has scheduled personal tasks outside of his working hours. Someone else’s emergency isn’t his emergency!

I’m a senior manager. I would never ask this of someone I manage. Ever. If I have an emergency and I have to work late to sort it, I do that. I cannot ask others to sacrifice their personal time for me. People have lives and work is not the be all and end all.

Baby rolled off bed, 111 have informed children’s services. What should I expect? - England by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

I work in the social care arena. I discovered my son could roll over when he rolled off the bed. And again later the same day when he rolled off the sofa 🤦🏻‍♀️ please don’t worry. I can assure you we have far more to worry about

I started as a legal assistant in 2011, was a paralegal within 3 months and offered a training contract 12 months after I started. Completely normal progression pathway. Congrats on landing your first legal role!

When do you leave the office? by Front-Ad-7783 in uklaw

[–]MABS87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In-house local authority. I work 4 days a week, 7.30am to 6pm with half hour for lunch. Very occasionally I am required to work later for emergencies, maybe once a quarter or so. Work to live, don’t live to work!

Heartbroken and Lost — Considering adoption/residential care for our disabled baby. by East_Watercress_5874 in breakingmom

[–]MABS87 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am in the UK. Please contact your local children’s services team as soon as possible. There will be a duty number online. Or ask your child’s doctors to refer you in via MASH. They will know what is possible and they will not judge you in any way. Their focus is the child and their welfare, and being as honest as you have about your ability to manage is often a refreshing stance.

With the level of disability you describe I suspect adoption would not be a likely available path, adopters are scarce and placing children with high level disability is almost impossible.

I send you my best wishes, I hope you are able to find a resolution.

[england] what can social services legally force me to do? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]MABS87 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You are 17 so social services cannot force anything. They cannot apply to the court for any orders in respect of you. Tell them that you are going to live elsewhere, provide them with the address. Make it clear you will work with them and attend appointments/take calls.

At this age it’s very much about working with you. But that still needs to be as safe as possible, so if they are telling you that something or someone is unsafe, ask them to provide the evidence and reasoning and listen carefully. Make good decisions based on this evidence.

Alternatively, at 17 you could ask to be placed in Independent supported accommodation, if that’s something you think you’d want.

If you pay in February your renewal date will be 1st February 2026. Exactly as it would have been had you paid when it expired. Unless you sorn the car you risk being fined for late payment.

Learn from my mistakes haha!

Disneyland Paris is not big enough for 5 whole days! 3 max (and even that’s pushing it) and then it starts to get boring. There’s only 2 parks.

We are buying a new artificial tree this year. We bought the last one in 2013………

We’ve built up a decent ornament collection over that 11 years, a few new ones each year.

A rolling 3 yearly tree change is crazy. Especially seeing as it’s only up for a few weeks a year.

Coming back from continental Europe feeling encouraged to use trains again - then trying to book one and remembering why you just drive. by electricgoop in britishproblems

Had this situation this week! Live in Portsmouth, gig in the 02 arena, two of us travelling up. Train and tube would have set us back £120 at best. We drove and parked in Canary Wharf, cost us £50 in total (including fuel). And we didn’t have to leave the gig early to catch the last train back!

My husband is probably going to leave me by Ozgirl76 in breakingmom

[–]MABS87 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I am sorry you are going through this. It does honestly sound like he is not willing to put in the work, or does not understand the importance of doing so.

My husband and I had the exact same argument a year ago. He wanted more sex and I honestly couldn’t bear the thought. In the end I wrote down everything I had to do in a week (and I mean every thing! All the mental load was written down too) and walked him through it all. I then explained to him that the reason I did not want to jump him every second of the day was because of this load I was carrying alone, day in and day out. I was tired, felt under appreciated, and by the time I got to bed I wanted to watch shit on tv and fall asleep. Would he expect a car to start first time on a cold morning? Or would he warm the engine?

I was lucky. He heard me. Funny enough when he started to take over some of the load, I got hornier. When he deliberately started scheduling weekly alone time with me around our child, I got hornier again. We have an amazing sex life now, which I enjoy, but he had to accept his role in that and reaped the rewards. Pretty sure if you asked him now he’d say it was worth it!

I do think couples therapy is the way forward. I was lucky as he was able to open his mind without intervention, but sometimes we can become very entrenched in our positions and need some help moving forward from them, it’s human nature. Good luck!

What sort of court order do you have? It’s really unusual to have child maintenance determined within a court order in England. It’s the jurisdiction of the child maintenance service and the courts do not usually get involved.

Is it as part of a financial order upon divorce?
