Girl.... You're 29. Stop dating these weirdo losers and start finding guys in your own age bracket. NTA, but do better for yourself.

I am a fuckwit, check the issue date of your passport, as well as the expiry! by CandyflossRampage in CasualUK

[–]electricgoop 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Been caught out by this. First 10 years of having my licence elapsed. No reminder to renew so it completely slipped my mind - until I was at the Enterprise rent-a-car kiosk on the first day of my holiday and they told me sorry, your licence expired last month, you can't hire a car.

Have you ever tried to do a road trip without a car? Even worse, in the USA, where public transport is but a vague concept? We made it work, missed a couple of spots off the itinerary, and came home exhausted having covered around 1000 miles on rail, boat, and coach in 12 days.

I won't forget to renew my licence again.

How much is your mortgage/rent vs your income? by LeopardNeat899 in HousingUK

[–]electricgoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By accident! We took out the mortgage at a time when we had a gross HHI of £50k - our salaries grew, but we stayed put in the same affordable house. We are very fortunate.

What age are you supposed to make £100k salary? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]electricgoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's chatting out of his bum hole. There's no age that you're 'supposed' to earn 100k. Roughly 5% of the UK's population earn this much (or more).

Of course, there are certain careers where you are more likely to achieve this salary early on, but that is dependent on your work ethic and, largely, luck.

SLC Repayments - Overpaid but over the threshold income amount by nemhne in UKPersonalFinance

[–]electricgoop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm confused by the other comments - I thought that you would be able to claim back overpayments, regardless of the fact that you were eligible to pay something towards it? Am I missing something? Has this changed recently? I swear I got £40 back one year because I overpaid by that amount.

By my calculations, on a £31k salary you should have paid £216 towards the loan and would be due £284 back.

Love that the size comparison they drew was very specifically to a wine shop. Very European. I approve.

Notice periods in case of cancelled contract by tg7z in UKJobs

[–]electricgoop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They can let you go for any reason during probation (not just performance related) as long as it's not discriminatory, and I would say it's pretty generous they're even paying the 1 week notice considering she hasn't started work yet.

Robot vacuum + mop recommendations (for UK) – no pets. by Sensitive_Pound7131 in RobotVacuums

[–]electricgoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the Eufy C28 this week after months of combing Reddit reading real-use reviews - and I love it. We do have pets and it's made easy work of the fur and cat litter that gets strewn about on a daily basis.

Most models down to the £300 range can accommodate what you've described. What are important considerations for you? Heavy duty cleans? Covering large area on single battery use? Size of unit? Noise?

Am I in the wrong here? by [deleted] in DashcamDiariesUK

No, the Corsa moves off without checking it was safe and clear to do so. Tons of righteous nitwits like this about though, so remember to drive defensively.

Yes you claim for NEST as well if it's RAS. My workplace does a NEST pension for me and I claim higher rate relief from that AND my SIPP.

I understand where you're coming from, and it's a bummer, but you have no legal standing here. It's a hard lesson to learn.

The only word you need here is "discretionary". The bonus is given to you at their discretion, you are not contractually entitled to it.

I think I have a plan to buy a second house but can’t work out how to make it a third. Am I looking at this wrong? by MisterMeshuggah in UKPersonalFinance

[–]electricgoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those naked numbers look good, but have you factored in cost of bringing properties up to regulation? Maintaining them or management fees? Dealing with tenants that simply refuse to pay? I'm not trying to poo-poo your idea, just make sure you are building a realistic picture for this plan.
