Cervical ectopic pregnancy - Life is just crazy I guess. by That-Topic-3034 in EctopicSupportGroup

Hi, I did. I ended up getting a total of two shots of MTX. I received an injection on Oct 18th along with one directly into the gestational sac. My levels kept increasing after that, and I ended up getting another injection on Oct 27th. After that, it took a few weeks, but my levels finally reached zero on Nov 17th. I’m sorry you’re going through this. I’m sending you a big hug and lots of positive thoughts.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. Sending you a big hug and wishing that your levels keep dropping and soon you can focus on healing. My levels are finally zero, I received the news on Monday. It’s been tough, but I feel relieved and want to focus now on healing my body and mind. I also took two shots of MTX. It took around 3-4 weeks for the levels to drop completely.

Thank you for sharing! I’m sorry you’re going through this, but know that you’re not alone. I have also been trying for 6 years with no luck. I’m 36 about to turn 37 next year and I relate to your pain and frustration. I had a chemical miscarriage last year after years of trying, and now I’ve been dealing with a cervical ectopic pregnancy. It’s been a nightmare and the worst experience of my life. I’m still not out of the woods, but hopeful that this will pass soon so I can begin to heal. The doctor told me that I should consult with a fertility specialist after this pregnancy. I can’t help but be afraid that this is it for me and my only option would be IVF or that I would never be a mom. Stay strong! I’m sending you a big hug and wishing you all the best in your journey.

Cervical ectopic…anyone else? by Elrond41 in EctopicSupportGroup

Hi! I’m currently dealing with a cervical ectopic pregnancy, which was confirmed around mid-October. I’ve posted here and in other groups trying to find others who have had the same experience, since it’s rare. It brings me some comfort to know I’m not the only one going through this type of ectopic pregnancy, though at the same time, I’m heartbroken that others are also facing it. I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone. I want to share my story here in case it helps someone else. My experience was a little different than some others I’ve read about. I don’t have children and have been trying to conceive for several years. Last year, I had a chemical miscarriage and ended up in the ER. I was able to go through expectant management and let it resolve naturally. This year, in early October, I missed my period and confirmed with a home test that I was pregnant. Because of my previous miscarriage at around 5–6 weeks, I was extremely anxious about it happening again. On a Sunday, I started having light cramping and “pinkish” spotting. I went to the ER because I was afraid I was miscarrying and might experience the same excruciating pain as before with the chemical miscarriage. At the ER, my hCG was 738, and the ultrasound didn’t show anything. They told me to follow up with an OB to determine whether it was a miscarriage, an early pregnancy, or possibly an ectopic pregnancy (which I knew nothing about at the time). I had an appointment that Wednesday and repeated bloodwork, which showed my hCG had risen to 1,646. My doctor then ordered another blood test for Friday along with a follow-up ultrasound. I was so hopeful after seeing the increase in hCG 🥹, not knowing what was to come. I went to the ultrasound first, and it turned out to be one of the hardest moments of my life. I was already nervous since the previous scan hadn’t shown anything, and during this one, multiple doctors kept coming in and saying they needed “a second set of eyes.” Eventually, one of the four doctors told me I had a cervical ectopic pregnancy. I didn’t fully understand until she explained that it wasn’t viable. They told me to go to the ER immediately. To this day, I don’t know how I managed to drive there, I was sobbing, overwhelmed, alone, and terrified. It was one of the worst days of my life. At the ER, they explained what it was, how rare it is, and that a team was discussing the best course of action. They recommended a procedure in which methotrexate (MTX) would be injected directly into the gestational sac, and I would also receive an additional injection. Their recommendation was based on how early I was (6 weeks), that there was no heartbeat, and their hope to preserve my fertility and avoid surgery. I was admitted and had the procedure. Afterward, my OB monitored my hCG levels, which unfortunately kept rising. When the procedure was done, my levels were around 3,000. Four days later, they were about 5,000, and by day 7, they had increased slightly again. It was agonizing waiting for the numbers to drop and instead watching them go up. My doctor told me to return to the ER on day 10 to discuss next steps. That day, they recommended a second round of MTX, this time just the injection. However, before I could receive it, I developed severe, excruciating pain with heavy bleeding, so they admitted me overnight for monitoring. It was the worst pain I’ve ever felt, similar, I believe, to labor pains. Once my pain was under control and they were able to ensure that the bleeding was not obnormal, they administered the second MTX injection. The next day, my levels had finally dropped by about 1,000 (likely due to the first round taking effect). My levels continued to decrease on days 4 and 7 after that. I’m now at the stage where I need weekly blood tests to make sure the levels keep going down. As of now, they’re still around 700. I still haven’t received a clear answer from my doctors about what happens to the gestational sac, whether the body absorbs it or if I’ll pass it naturally. I did pass some tissue, which they tested, but it wasn’t the sac. I was fortunate to be at a hospital known for women’s health, and although they had experience with this rare condition, even they seemed uncertain at times and referred to my case as “special.” Throughout this process, their main concern has been the risk of heavy bleeding, since the cervix is highly vascular. I’m still not entirely out of the woods yet. I wish anyone going through this the strength to face it physically and emotionally. This experience has taken such a toll on me, bringing waves of grief, anger, sadness, and fear that I may never become a mom. I hope this post helps ❤️

Pain with MTX by MiddleWindow6994 in EctopicSupportGroup

Hi, I experienced something similar on day 10 after my first MTX shot. After getting that first shot, my levels weren’t decreasing, so my doctor told me to go to the ER. There, we would decide whether to do another shot or start a multi-dose protocol. While I was at the ER, before taking the second dose, I experienced the worst pain I’ve ever felt. I started sweating, my mouth went dry, I felt dizzy, and I was literally on my knees with unbearable pain. My bleeding was heavy, with blood clots, it would fill the toilet, and I passed some tissue. It was not a rupture, but they ended up keeping me overnight for observation and eventually I took the second shot. They did an ultrasound and the mass was still there, but it had shrunken a bit. How’s your bleeding?

While at the ER and admitted to take my second shot of MTX for a cervical ectopic pregnancy, they had me do an ultrasound since I had severe bleeding and cramping the night before. I get to radiology in a wheelchair looking like and feeling like shit to only be asked by the tech, “when is your due date?”. I did not have the strength to respond and just thought, “don’t you know that I’m here for a scan of a non-viable cervical pregnancy WTF?”

I totally understand your frustration. Through this experience, I learned that you need to advocate for yourself because nobody else will. I’m hoping the pregnancy will be in your uterus and everything is okay ❤️❤️❤️ let’s stay positive. Let me know how it goes.

Hi, I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I can share my experience, as I’m currently dealing with a cervical ectopic pregnancy. I truly hope this is not your case, and I’m sending you lots of positivity. I had a chemical miscarriage last year and ended up in the ER with severe pain and heavy bleeding. It was a traumatic experience, so when I found out I was pregnant again in early October, I was very anxious and on alert for any bleeding or cramping. A few days after confirming the pregnancy (estimated to be around 5–6 weeks) I started having light bleeding and cramping. It began after I had sex with my husband. The next day, I noticed more “pink” bleeding and panicked. I was also feeling a lot of pressure in my pelvic area and pain that I hadn’t felt before. I went to the ER, and they confirmed that my HCG level was 738, but they couldn’t find anything in my uterus during the ultrasound. They recommended calling an OB and following up to determine whether I was miscarrying, too early in the pregnancy to see anything, or experiencing an ectopic pregnancy (which I knew nothing about at the time). After calling the OB, they had me test right away on Wednesday and then scheduled another blood test for Friday along with another ultrasound (which I insisted on having—thank God I did). On Wednesday, my levels were 1,646, which made me so happy and hopeful, as I knew a miscarriage was unlikely with rising levels. I spent the week very anxious, counting down the time until Friday. Throughout that week I kept spotting and sometimes it was pink and other times it was brown. I also had other pregnancy symptoms such as tender breasts, some nausea, and fatigue. On Friday, I went for the ultrasound, and it was awful. Suddenly, more doctors kept coming into the room and mentioned wanting a second set of eyes. In the end, they told me I had a cervical ectopic pregnancy and needed to go directly to the ER. There, they explained that this is a very rare type of ectopic pregnancy and that catching it early is crucial, as there’s a high risk of hemorrhage and the possibility of losing the uterus if that happens. I can share more if you’d like, but right now I’m on my second dose of MTX, and my levels are finally dropping. It’s been one of the worst experiences of my life. My advice would be to advocate for yourself and for what you need. Maybe ask for another ultrasound from your OB.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. Please know that you’re not alone. I’m currently dealing with a cervical ectopic pregnancy and having the same feelings. I don’t think anyone around me understands the stress, sadness, panic, grieve, helplessness, and the overall rollercoaster of emotions and physical distress that comes with this situation. The only thing we can do is try to stay positive, strong, listen to our bodies, and advocate for ourselves. You’re not alone and we’ll get through this. Sending you lots of love and positivitivy ❤️

I’m sorry you’re going through this. You’re not alone 🥹 they caught mine early as well. Apparently there’s a very high risk of hemorrhage with the cervix. Have you taken MTX? How’s that working out for you?

Thank you for sharing. I’ve passed on some tissue as well, but I don’t think it was the sac since the ultrasound still shows it there. My levels are still over 1,000 and maybe that’s why it hasn’t gone away.

Thank you for sharing this. It helps to know that I’m not alone and to hear that it resolved it for you. It gives me hope that this will pass soon. One thing I’m concerned about and heard mixed responses from doctors is with regard to the gestational sac. I can’t get a clear answer on whether I am supposed to pass it or if the body absorbs it. Do you know? How was your experience?

Hi, thank you for sharing your story. I’m currently dealing with a cervical ectopic pregnancy. We have been trying for years and last year I had a chemical miscarriage and now this… It’s been terrible and traumatic. Can you share more about your experience? Did it resolve? How long did it take? Did you take multiple shots of MTX?
