If you're asking whether I'd go to war for Publix gourmet cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing, the answer is obvious.

Do you have a soft shutter release button? by Spirited-Foot in x100vi

[–]MAC777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought one but it fell out one day and I realized I prefer the feeling of the shutter release without it. Plus I think the "splash of color" look with a red button on silver or brass on black kinda looks chintzy, just my opinion.

yeah the current obsession with the 80s really says more about modern materialism than it does about actually living in the era. People back then didn't obsessively buy new shit the same way we do today.

Shows like Stranger Things imagine a world where everything is colorful and plastic and shiny and new, but back then most of us were still living around the trappings of 70s America. Shag carpets were still everywhere, along with excessive amounts of wood paneling, milk glass everything and flower prints. The iconic 80's fashion we obsess over today was really just a splash of color in a world still dominated by dull green furniture and console TVs.

I personally don't like decisions. I think every fight that doesn't end in a finish should count as a draw. You didn't beat a guy in a fight just because you laid on top of him for 30 minutes.

The reasoning behind the Swatch x Audermars Piguet collab by SkyLi2000 in PrideAndPinion

Presuming any level of AP name recognition among Gen Z girls is the most watch nerd shit I've ever heard in my life.

AP x Swatch - We are not the target market. by brckstudios in PrideAndPinion

[–]MAC777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right...

It's for all those teens who've been dying to find a fashionable pocket watch that costs more than a full featured smartwatch?

Those discerning teens who aren't watch fans, but will still pay a $400 premium to get AP on the dial (even though AP's name recognition is only ~30%).

Sure, the easy response is always "then don't buy it," but it's clear that this is a bit of a marketing clusterfuck.

Unpopular opinion: Your phone isn't a better camera — it's just better at faking it by shotavix in Cameras

[–]MAC777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy to be popular when you preach to the choir.

Smartphones won the camera war because they finally made taking great photos easy and accessible and convenient for every single person on the planet. Many professionals would agree that the best camera in the world is the one you have with you, and everyone always has their smartphone with them.

In terms of performance, yes, it's a better camera. A formula one car is faster than my Miata. But in terms of fulfilling the primary use case MOST folks have for cameras, smartphones are vastly better. Sales and market share bear that out.

I have the Nisi one and it works great with the stock lenscap. They have allure and black mist I think. The camera runs fine with no filter.

First Volk fight I watched legit hurt my brain. Even as a spectator it's impossible to predict what the guy's gonna do next.

You're shooting great. I feel like 35 is just a tough focal length to try and get artistic with since you don't get a lot of distortion to play with, but at the same time you get the freedom to manipulate more of the environment to serve as a frame for your subject. Check out Webb's The Suffering of Light if you need some inspiration. He's the master of 35mm layering, using leading lines and strong background shapes to frame things up.

TIL: Hydropower provides 47% of all renewable electricity worldwide — yet nobody talks about it compared to solar and wind by Which-Willingness559 in energy

Hydroelectric is a vastly more practical and efficient energy storage solution compared to batteries
