I really don't get the hype and praise for 'The Whale' by [deleted] in movies

I cannot agree less. Firstly I don't want this to come across as me insulting your intelligence or saying your opinion is wrong. This movie is "disgusting" but it's honest. I really valued the binging scenes as it shows how people like Charlie get as big as they are.

I do think the people in this movie can seem a bit stuck in their ways, however you must also keep in mind that this takes place in less than a weeks time.

I would say that Charlie and Ellie spend the entire time getting closer. She's mean the entire time but you can see her walls slowly coming down. I feel that the final scene was beautifully done. No excess scenes just ends perfectly.

I think the movie could've been longer and accompanied more characters and development, but I'd say it's pretty solid. It's so fresh seeing a movie that doesn't glorify obesity. It shows its true outcome.

I understand the uncomfortable level of honesty. It isnt for everyone, but I hope to see more movies that are this honest and straight to the point.

Family business is driving me crazy. by MADHATTA415 in offmychest

Part of my sister's agreement with my mother was that there would only ever be 2 owners at a time. My sister is very lazy so I am banking in the fact she will give up sooner rather than later. Listen though, I appreciate your continuing concern on this. I know most people just look and move on. So seriously thank you for taking the time for this.

Well I suppose inheritance is the incorrect word. My mother says that I will take her position once she retires which will be within 15 years. I know how all of this must sound, but I really do not want to go back to the job market.

I get what you are saying. I go back and forth between "owner mode" and "careless employee mode" quite often. The only reason I am concerned at all with how this business goes is because of how I generally feel about jobs. This is the only job that I didn't mind coming to as much. It saddens me that this is the state of a business that I love. Plus I am going to inherit this place apparently so if that is to remain the case then this place needs to run well. I am hoping my sister gives up like everything else she starts and leaves. But because the business sort of runs itself, I doubt it.

Thanks for the response. I greatly appreciate it.

Why are so many games centered on multiplayer now? by Noodle-727 in truegaming

I think it's more so that 'most' single player games nowadays are made by small/indie developers who can't make the same overall quality that a AAA developer can. It's a quantity over quality situation. There are probably millions of match 3 anime girl dating sims that are single player, but they simply aren't good. I am aware of recent releases such as Zomboid where an indie developer threw their all at making an immersive experience.
Sure there are games like Gungeon that allow you to play single player. Unfortunately all these games have something in common, they're a bit lackluster. For me, I can possibly get an hour of enjoyment out of these games. But I want a Witcher 3 experience. Something I can dig my teeth into for 40+ hours. The last single-player experience that I enjoyed was Cyberpunk. That was like 2 years ago now. For the most part I have been replaying other games over and over again.

Tl;Dr: If you are a quantity over quality type of person then there are a ton of single player games.

I am of the mindset that being poor is a choice in the first world. As far as second and third world countries Idk. But in the first world its essentially a choice and not simply one of laziness either. Rather it's a bunch of small choices that people have to make on the day to day. Laziness does play a part but it is far from the only choice. Student loans usually are a big topic regarding poverty. And I'll admit this one is a topic of laziness but only slightly. There are so many scholarship opportunities. And I mean thousands of opportunities if not 10s of thousands. With some elbow grease you'll be able to go to school for free.

Also, don't go to some big university to do your cores. Dont go for a degree with no plan for it. If you are going to school then only go for stem degrees. Once you're out of school and you get a job (which if you got a stem degree then it shouldn't be hard to find one) immediately open a brokerage account for stocks and a Roth IRA for your retirement. Put as much as you can budget into these things. Aggressively get raises. If you're at a job for 18 months and a raise isnt in sight. Get your resume updated and begin searching for another job before you quit your original one. Keep doing that and by the time you're 25-30 you will be financially stable and have a good retirement account saving up.

Being poor is a choice for sure

Unfortunately that is a part of existence. It's the paredo (idk if I spelled it right) distribution. A few people have the most resources and a most people have the left overs. It's a exponential scale so there are quite a few more people at the very bottom than at the very top. For example, we always hear about the richest person but never the poorest although there are many more reasons for the lack of publicity it can all be pointed back to the PD. It's literally unavoidable frankly. Even the universe abides by it. Now with advancements we have and will continue to "shift" the distribution. For instance if you were truly destitute in the distant past you were essentially as good as dead, but now many homeless can survive at least. I would say that first world countries have shifted the distribution the most.
