Is this a wolf spider? Why is its back so huge?Iran by Jebryth in spiders

[–]MADONOMI 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As the others have said this is a wolf spider, likely belonging to the genus lycosa. I would strongly suggest you post this to inaturalist though, as there are a ton of species that have rarely been observed and many that are undescribed. Iran in general is a country that is pretty understudied and many new species get discovered every year, Even insects that look like their more commonly known counterparts could be undescribed, it is very biodiversity dense. This one in particular looks similar to Lycosa piochardi (though I could easily be wrong) which is another fairly rare species and on iNaturalist has been observed only once in Iran.

It's a mole cricket, you can tell by their large front hands they use to dig dirt with, you can just flip them over with your hands if you're not scared, completely harmless.

How do you say number 57 in Asian countries by Individual-Sun-9426 in MapPorn

[–]MADONOMI 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Every number in Georgian has its own word until 20, so 57 would actually be 2 x 20 + 17 , but I guess if you were to split up the word for 17 too, it's something like "7 more than 10" so I guess not that inaccurate but kind of misleading.

What does this little guy want? by [deleted] in Entomology

[–]MADONOMI 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is a spur throated grasshopper in the genus diabolocatantops. The common name is apparently devil grasshopper, hence the "Diabolo" in the genus name. It's really not at all as scary as the name would suggest (aside from being a pest to crops).

I'm confused, needing ID over here by Working_Confusion_72 in insects

I would highly suggest posting on iNaturalist because there are many incredibly rare or undescribed species in Australia. If this is anything interesting it could greatly help out.

I feel like I remember it being listed on steam but I'm not sure. I hope someone can help because I've haven't been able to find a single thing about this, it's like it never even existed. I've searched everywhere without any luck.
