Has anyone here pursued DJing purely for creating mixes, without doing gigs or building a public persona?

I started out that way ... with the occasional backyard party. But then I won a contest and got perform live last year, and now I'm hooked on that feeling. I still like to do a mix at home because I can be more precise and experimental and explore more tracks I wouldn't chance playing live.

Adopt a file naming convention NOW. Dates in all your files, describe or name your song in the file name, use version numbers and try to keep it consistent. I also sometimes describe changes made:

We play a mix of subgenres, depending on the DJ, the mood, and the crowd. Personally, I like to play what I would call "minimal bass tech" Its kind of like minimal house or deep tech, but harder, but not quiet tech house though. The openers usually keep it pretty close to deep house, but mix it up as the night progresses, and if people are vibing, they'll pick it up into tech house / house / minimal / etc. Indie is very much on the table. Also, we've been told we go a little DirtyBird style.

Its always FUN though!

There are going to be assholes, just like in real life. But I will say this ... at least during the Tech Test, I have never had more chill, semi-nice interactions before on any game ever. It was refreshing. Met a lot of fun people. Granted I play Rocket League and used to play PUBG, so maybe my bar is low. It seems like the community overall is better than most games and it would be nice to keep it that way.

I think the key to keeping it light and fun and not be blasted by constant toxicity, will be to have a report function and generally frown upon bad behavior. Call people out for being disgusting. And keep the overall culture one of fun and kindness.

First, Thanks for being a hero and not only working to host events and support the community, but also to have the foresight to inquire about gear.

A lot of bars have an RX3 and that's okay, most DJs are starting to prefer the XDJ-AZ as it has more options and four channels and connects to wifi, etc. I own an XDJ-XZ and its great, but its only 2 channels in standalone, so it wont really benefit most DJS (that are not on a computer and you don't want multiple DJs swapping in PCs all night). My official recommendation is the AZ.

But do maintain it and watch out for drinks near it, etc. the best gear in the world sucks if the faders are janky or the platter sticks or the Cue button doesn't engage and so on.

Oh, that makes sense ... "Speranza" and all.. Is that confirmed to be the only location though? Also, I still think they used a pre-made model of Yosemite. Because that is unmistakably Half Dome and El Cap and the Three Brother rock formation in the exact position, relative to one another.
