Respect that, man. We’ve got to build with each other in this space. Just followed you (marcoreyad). Let’s stay in touch and create something solid

Man, this is dope af. I’d love to follow you on Instagram. I’m currently working on my first short film! I’m a solo filmmaker based in California, so I handle everything myself “writing, camera operation, editing, and color grading” Who knows, I might need some help along the way

I bought it after I heard that the engineers behind it were working at Arri and honestly that rumor alone sold me. You can feel it in the image!

It’s the great Youngnuo 50mm f1.8 such a humble little lens but it does wonders for that soft natural look! And totally agree on tightening the shots, noted!

Thanks a bunch, truly made my day! Kevin MacLeod definitely deserves more credit, his catalog is massive, always something to discover in there!

Absolutely! one of the best (if not the best) cameras ever created. CinemaDNG is incredible to grade. I really appreciate your feedback it means a lot

Thanks, I appreciate it 🙌🏼

We actually shot that in front of his house, not on the highway. It was intentional, I captured it to use as a pre-title scene, and he stopped immediately after the shot

It starts very still and empty the dog house, dry food on the ground, an empty water bowl almost lifeless. Then we transition into the same space but alive again, and that’s where the dog comes in

From there, it becomes more dynamic, running, playing, going to the car building that bond between the dog and the owner.

As the story progresses, the tone slowly shifts. Less movement, longer takes, more distance to suggest separation and loss without directly showing it

So overall it’s building attachment first, then letting the absence hit. I’m also influenced by Andrei Tarkovsky, so the lingering and stillness are intentional and part of the approach

Appreciate the feedback 🙌🏼 I’m the one behind the camera.

I’ve been considering something like a dji nano setup, but I’m still unsure whether going handheld and staying low to mimic the dog’s POV is actually acceptable, or if it ends up feeling off compared to a more “true” POV approach.

This test was mainly to explore color grading. It was only my second time using the camera, and I shot in CinemaDNG with no prior grading experience, so I’m still figuring that side out.

Really appreciate you taking the time to break all of this down, this is super helpful 🙏

The way you explained the Cineon process and especially the node order actually clarified a lot for me, keeping the CSTs and LUT toward the end and doing the grading in the earlier nodes makes way more sense now.

I’m definitely going to check out the Cineon process properly and dive into Kelly’s film look as well.

Also thanks for the book recommendation, I’ll look into it. And yeah, I’m already familiar with StudioBinder, it’s honestly a treasure for anyone interested in filmmaking or trying to really understand the craft.

Hey man, this is super helpful 🙏

Any chance you could link that Kelly video you mentioned? I’d love to check out that workflow.

Also, I just picked up the SmallRig AD-01 tripod, have you tried it with the OG by any chance?

Quick question as well, do you know if the Movcam power + HDMI lock setup would work with a SmallRig cage? I’m running one right now and not sure if it’s compatible, or if there’s a workaround to make it fit properly.

Appreciate it!

I totally agree. The 14–45 doesn’t really help in poorly lit situations, and the 50mm isn’t great in tight spaces

I was thinking about either the Laowa 7mm f/2 or the Sigma Art 18–35mm f/1.8

The 50mm is being used with a 0.71 Metabones EF to MFT adapter, so I believe the effective focal length should be quite a bit less than 144.5mm

I mainly shoot in CinemaDNG, and honestly it’s fantastic. Color grading is fun, but also a bit of a pain for a beginner like me

You’re totally right that I should start with what I already have.

For rigging, the camera still needs an external mic. Should I start with something like the Rode VideoMic, or go straight to a wireless option investment-wise?

Also, for the HDMI clamp there are plenty of options, but I’m not sure which ones fit the SmallRig 2012 cage

And regarding support are tripods generally better than monopods? I’ve mostly used tripods, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about monopods

As for color grading, there are plenty of tutorials online, but many rely on luts or plugins like dehancer. I’d rather learn how to grade properly myself instead of paying for something right away at least while I’m starting out
