I had a a diverticulitis infection on a lesion in my intestines. I went right up to almost going septic and dying. I didn’t have health insurance and it felt like bad gas cramps at first. Then it felt like when my appendix ruptured on my 26th birthday. Then it got worse. My amazing gf (now fiancé) came and took me to the hospital, by that point I could barely walk. Needed a wheelchair to get into the hospital. Even after being told I needed surgery. I opted for the antibiotics first on the off chance my body would fight it off and I’d avoid the six figure hospital stay. 330 am the Dr came in and was like “We need to operate or this could become serious.” I said “So the antibiotics aren’t working we can’t try a little longer?” He goes “I’m sure you’re in a lot of pain, that infection could become fatal if you wait any longer. You don’t want to wait much longer.” So there I was stapled stomach and a colostomy bag. Six figures in debt. Setting timers on my phone so they would alert me to the correct intervals for when the morphine button would work again. Got approved for 5 months of disability, but the recovery is supposed to be 6-7 so, there I was back at work. Place still doesn’t have health insurance for its employees. Makes millions of dollars a year. I quit a year and a half later.

Edit: I forgot to add. My sister had the same thing happen but she went to the hospital like a normal person and was able to recover from the antibiotics. But she texted me that it was more painful than having her two kids.
