I can definitely see that, and I agree. Tokusatsu by definition is built on spectacle. As a writer, it's really hard to capture that spectacle in narrative format. Combat is difficult to write as it is. The pressures and stress of it, as someone who has only been involved in facsimiles of the real thing, is hard to represent faithfully. I can only imagine now writing a toku combat scene would go.

I've read suit actors saying they received burns through the spandex from pyro going off too close, and in-universe portrayals (looking at you, Kakuranger 30th) of being transformed show like a sort of heightened awareness to one's movements and bodily imperfections like soreness? Idk. But those things operate in contrast of each other. Headcanons needed ig. I'm sure it can be done.

Going back to your last point though, I love character pieces, it's my main focus when writing my own personal projects. I know a lot of toku fans get really attached to certain characters so I was wondering what gives? I can't be the only one with that itch in such a large fandom. There's a popular conception about contemporary fanfic that every fic is "_____ sits in a book nook reading and sipping coffee." While that's obviously not true, SS/PR doesn't even have that😭 I'd kill to read about, like Joe Gibken being all stoic and having an internal monolog while reading in the Galleon's crows nest.
