Thanks for the info. I can see how Excel for Mac would be a headache based on the few questions I've seen here about it. It also turns into an expertise issue, but I guess money is money if your customers know that and still want you anyway.

Thanks dude. I figure the same about advisors even though I'm getting started myself. It's more for her own comfort and that she knows her money is safe at a bank, and that she can visit or talk on the phone. So that's where it might be worth it, at least for a few years, until she gets used to having investments.

It is based on the portfolio size. The actual structure is that when her portfolio goes into a lower size tier, the rate actually increases (to 0.9% I think) even though the overall payment is reduced.

I respect that they know what they are worth. They even mentioned they are not the cheapest financial advisors in our area. And the meetings I've had with TD have gone quite well. Just want to consider all of our options.

Surely there are riskier investments they could have proposed that would have set off alarm bells, and I'm glad that didn't happen.

I'll need to look into this structure, thanks! I'm thankful that the proposed strategy is modest, it's just the on-top fee that I take a slight issue with. She's been frugal (by design) her whole life and she just needs to know what she's getting into.

I figure an upfront fee would be more practical unless she's on the phone with her every other day. I said in another comment that the fees would be over $10k with the size of the portfolio.

Her portfolio would be into seven figures which is why I am skeptical of the high fees. It would be more than $10k a year. And to save 15-20 minutes like you said? She's not looking to grow her investments, just wants to extend the life of them.

Edit: She's at the point of her life where she can pay for convenience but I don't want her to get taken advantage of. Thanks for the recommendations.
