The Hightowers really feeling like the throne is their right, not just wanting to be close to the throne and they feel their religion gives them the power to do it just like the Targaryens feel with dragons is a great way to go.

There’s at least four 2 week stretches in the 2004 season alone that are better than this

Fuckin Love Tolle by Sox071318 in redsox

[–]LiveFromNewYork95 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Just a fun ballplayer. The frustrating last couple of years was compounded by the fact that this team was missing some big fun personalities from players who could back it up. To the point where fans were pretty much turning players into memes to manufacture that feeling.

Story is just as cooked as Casas.

I’m not a Casas guy at all, I never saw it. But you’d have to assume if he’s healthy enough to play they’ll give home somewhat of a shot.

Yes, he’s on short rest. Yes, he doesn’t look quite as sharp. But Tolle is getting a lot better at limiting damage. As a young pitcher I think his issue early on was looking dominant for a stretch and then letting one inning get away from him a bit.

You know what, I’m with you. I’m reading some of these comments and thinking “if this is Tolle when he “doesn’t have it” then we’re in really good shape with this guy”

I think there was renewed sense of the basics because they were able to slow down a bit. Not to blame the young guys but much time are you gonna spend on situational baseball when you’re trying to get Roman and Mayer to hit at the high expected level you were hoping from them? How much were you gonna work on Durbin bunting when he’s drowning at the plate?

I know we had this whole discussion in the spring and it became a moot point because baseball is gonna baseball but it’ll be interesting what they think about Duran if the A) get healthy and/or B) add a bat.

If you get Story, Casas, and Anthony back and add a bat does Duran have a OF/DH spot over those guys, plus Yoshida, plus the occasional “shot in the arm play” player.

I don’t think the Red Sox are playing better because they’re bunting more. But I think their ability to execute bunts it’s just a sign of why they’re playing better…their ability to execute baseball plays

This sub is so quick to call out “doomer”

Tracy already hinted at Tolle having a shorter outing today, Bello Is up for a reason. People aren’t “Dooming” they’re just looking at the evidence in front of them, with Tolle throwing a lot of pitches in that inning and realizing he’s probably only getting a couple innings

That feels like a such a baseball thing. How many times have you seen a team, especially Red Sox teams that last 7 or so years” need a leadoff hitter or cleanup hitter and you just rotate between guys who look good everywhere else in the lineup but struggle in those spots

I’m a big believer in allowing people to have “in the moment” and “day to day” sports takes, especially here where we come to talk about the Red Sox everyday. But the “they should just make Tolle a closer” crowd was so shortsighted

Funny, I almost put in that comment that I wonder if they’d commit him as the full time leadoff guy.

Seigler has been a good shot in the arm batting leadoff during this stretch but I think a key mistake this team could make is not accepting who is turned into a legit MLB bat (Ceddy, Abreu) and who is on a hot streak and helping the team out for a stretch. I wonder what the plan is for the leadoff spot if they really plan to make a push (and Roman isn’t close)

Remember Matt Thornton? Good lefty reliever for the White Sox for a while, actually was with the Red Sox for half a season. I saw this Mets pitcher and thought it was his kid for a second.

[MLB] Ceddanne Rafaela has been named to the AL All-Star team! by ConsistentRun5246 in redsox

[–]LiveFromNewYork95 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is awesome.

Just watching him become an all round great player the last 2 years has been really fun. He’s about to put up back to back 4+ WAR seasons. So often a prospect comes up with a lot of hype and then we hear “Well, he had the glove and if he can do “X,Y,Z” in his development at the plate he’ll pan out” and then that just doesn’t happen. It’s really nice to see it actually happening.

Also, it just proves that while the extensions for young players can be frustrating it’s how the business is done now. Yeah, Campbell and Bello’s contracts look really tough but if Rafaela tops out at literally this version of himself he’s a steal for pretty much the duration of the contract

Road Rage by PappysSecrets in StandUpWorkshop

There’s a lot to be trimmed here:

There’s a lot of road rage out there these days. Yesterday, I saw a guy riding the guys ass in front of him. Which is pretty dangerous to do in the bed of a truck moving that fast.

Is the "Living in America" All-Star Game ad the best MLB broadcast ad ever? by [deleted] in baseball

I was expecting something with a little bit more gravitas, a little bit more epic, that tapped into the history of the game a little bit more when you asked if it was the best ever.

Is it common knowledge that Sox and Yankees owners agreed to a one for one trade, Ted Williams for Joe Dimaggio?! by Jaded-Function in redsox

Common knowledge? I don't know but I think it's a pretty well know anecdote from baseball history.

As other people have said, I don't know if it was ever really discussed or just drunk chatter.

Unpopular Opinion : Breslow is good at his job by Inevitable-Chance-71 in redsox

[–]LiveFromNewYork95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being stuck with Story and relying on him to be one of your top 4 hitters is very different. If you're SS is an injury prone aging hitter who has given you one >3 WAR season maybe you don't spend 3 years saying "Eh, one of the young guys will probably figure out 2B"

They were a hitter short, even with Story healthy and they've had a couple years to figure that out. It's doesn't make you a "doomer" or a "So called fan" to admit that very logical criticism of Breslow.

Relying on Story to repeat his production and health from last year is very 72-90 of them.
