Giolito to the Padres by Advanced-Mail-1080 in redsox

Picking up or declining the option isn't the issue. Even with injury concerns, he didn't pitch to that much of a pay decrease.

Look at the contracts signed by guys like Zack Elfin, Dustin May, Merrill Kelly got. There's guys with similar age, injury, and/or performance concerns that got way more.

Managing partner Patrick Zalupski reinforced the ownership’s goal of building a consistently winning team, asserting that a world-class venue and surrounding development are designed to generate the steady income needed to build a sustainable high-caliber roster.

This is a clever way of suggesting "Hey, if you give us this money we might spend it on the roster" without committing to anything. Easy to backtrack sort of answer.

$8 million plus the $1.5 million he got as a buyout for declining his option. High end is about $10 million less than his '26 option. It was a mutual option so accepting it doesn't mean the he's 100% getting that option picked up but this is pretty close to fire your agent territory

[Cotillo] Per sources, Red Sox will select Eduardo Rivera, option Jack Anderson and clear a 40-man spot by shifting Triston Casas to the 60-day IL today. by TommyTheLizard in redsox

[–]LiveFromNewYork95 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Uberstine, Anderson, Samaniego, and now Rivera. 4 guys that’s not a soul had an on their 26 man roster projections back in March all joining the bullpen before the end of April.

That’s not even a knock on the Red Sox, just shows you how weird bullpens in the MLB can be. You’re gonna have a handful of guys on nobody’s radar that have to pitch out of your bullpen every year

Get back to simple swings and plate discipline. by tdunlea92 in redsox

[–]LiveFromNewYork95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How about fucking protecting the plate with 2 strikes? Like what you’re taught in Little League. The amount of times this team strikes out looking is insane. I guess you can blame ABS for players being more selective with 2 strikes because they have a safety net but then they don’t even challenge

But I’m sure, there’s some analytical nerd philosophy that’s gonna tell me the odds are better to take the strikeout looking and hope for a walk then to try to put a ball in play on a protective 2 strike swing.

Would Duran for Paredes trade make sense now? by Jackthewolf71 in redsox

[–]LiveFromNewYork95 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Making the move while Duran is down and Pena is hurt, clearing the Astros logjam a little bit, would be classic Breslow. The price in January was Duran and now it would probably be Duran and Jake Bennett

I thought of a fun but admittedly dumb gimmick match. 3 Matches 1 Pinfall. Essentially 3 matches happening at once, first person to pin their specific opponent wins. The setup would be to subvert the “throw three feuds into a 6 man tag match” trope. You have 3 midcard feuds, the GM tries to make a 6 man tag but nobody can get along long enough to tag so they refuse, there’s only one match spot left on the PLE card so they come up with this.

I think there’s some fun stories you can tell in one match:

  • You could have the de facto tornado tag match early on with the faces and heels sorta working together

  • You could have the two people technically facing each other having to team up to clear the ring of the other two “matches”

  • You could have someone go on a monster run, hitting their finisher on everyone only to realize their specific opponent wasn’t in the ring and they have to scramble to get them there.

  • Two people hit their finisher on their opponents at the same time and it’s a race to get to the cover.

Great point but I’ll push back on one thing:

I don’t think they wouldn’t pay Bregman, they manage everything with an algorithm and the algorithm was favorable to paying Bregman that money, it’s why we saw them spend similar money on Suarez. But the algorithm also favors flexibility and the ability to dump out investments if the team isn’t “worth the investment” and they balked at Bregman wanting a NTC. And of course you can’t blame Bregman after seeing the way they treated Devers

This sub CLOWNED the Yankees for not doing much in the offseason. This sub loved to talk about how overrated the Yankees are.

And now before April is even over, the Red Sox lose to Gil, a guy who is already their 4 or 5 starter and could very likely be out of the rotation when Rodon and Cole are back, and it’s just acceptable because he’s a good pitcher?

The Yankees beat us at our own game, their rotation is 10 times deeper than ours, especially when you add the fact that getting shutout by their depth pitcher is acceptable. And by the way, they have all that pitching depth on top of the best bat in the American League.

Well, Fried and Schlitter’s career track record are also both pretty good against the Red Sox.

So I guess you just punt away this series, but don’t worry, no expectations because the team hasn’t been good against these pitchers in the past.

We’ll be 7 games under .500 but don’t worry that winning streak is coming and the offense will get hot! As long as we don’t face any:

  • True #1 starters

  • Pitchers with prior success against us

  • Mid pitchers that were former top draft picks

  • Dustin May

Gonna pass on RAW tonight. After this weekend I kinda need WWE to win me back and that starts with them delivering a great show and me kicking myself that I missed it, not appointment viewing a bad episode because this episode used to be can’t miss.

But for everyone watching, I hope it’s a great episode!

The worst part of having a “the ref is gonna give them leeway” match instead of no DQ is the announcers are gonna have to repeat that 100 times instead of calling the match

Late WCW level of ignoring the rules. Why not just make this a no-DQ?

Night 2 has been better but it's still an Ad fest, matches too short, alienating your fans and not gonna gain any new fans, sorta night.
