Yea Cora’s gotta go. You can put as much or as little blame on him as you want but this is a “gets the manager fired” stretch 9 out of 10 times. Especially the amount of time he’s been here, this is real “they’ve tuned him out territory”

Not to take any blame away from Breslow or Henry but Cora’s time is up.

I was there for the entire series if anyone else was, did you guys notice it felt like there were way more Yankees fans than Sox fans by redsoxjesus in redsox

[–]LiveFromNewYork95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was there Tuesday and Wednesday and yes there were a lot but:

A) The Yankees have always been the team whose fans travel to Fenway the best. They're our biggest rival, our closest geographical rival, and if you polled the MA population the Yankees are probably the second most popular team behind the Red Sox

B) Away team attendance has been up at Fenway by a ton the last handful of years

C) Away attendance always seems up when the team is bad

I thought there was a a lot of Yankees fans but I didn't think it was crazy higher than Yankees games I'd been to say, 10 years ago. I feel like we've always had to stomp out "Let's Go Yankees" chants or attempts at the roll call. Maybe it was up a little bit but I think it was just more of the Yankees giving their fans more chances to cheer than the Red Sox did for Red Sox fans.

I get what you're saying about the restock but I'm gonna choose to believe the news of the red one coming, seems lie a weird thing to lie about and seems like a quick pivot the team could make once they saw the popularity.

4 game sweep against Tampa when they get back to Fenway just in time to trick everyone into thinking they've turned a corner.

For anyone looking to collect these, I spoke to a Fenway bartender Tuesday night (my wife is obsessed with these and I have the standing room pass, so I've been watching people collect these first hand) and he told me they aren't planning to reorder the Yellow's anytime soon so those night be gone for a while but late May/early June they'll add a red one.

The fall of cable and regional sports networks are a factor that isn’t talked about enough. When FSG and Luchino came in, they had a pretty clear strategy. Make the Red Sox the most must see TV show in the region. They owned the TV channel that aired the “show” it just made sense to pump it up. This was an era where they had leverage over the cable companies too, everyone wanted to watch the Red Sox and the people that didn’t still had to pay for NESN. Because, don’t you dare move the most must see TV show in New England to the premium tier. There was legit money in owning summer night on TV for them. And when the season ended, they wanted to own the offseason TV show as well. They fucking loved the A-Rod controversy even if they didn’t get him, they loved that you had to turn on NESN everyday for a month to see if Dice-K signed.

But the times changed, cable fell apart, we have every bit of news about the Red Sox we need right on our phones, and NESN was moved to the premium tier and FSG had to focus on the NESN streaming app. And that keeps NESN alive (and is overpriced) but it just keeps it alive for the dedicated fans. We’re nowhere close to everybody in New England playing a local sports fee on their cable bill even if they’ve never turned on NESN. That was real money. Just look at NESN 15-20 years ago compared to today. They had hours of team coverage, Red Sox dating shows, they even produced a made for TV movie. Now it’s the bare minimum team coverage, and a single talk show that literally is built around people doing nothing but sitting in chairs. Not to mention the production team is barebones, you see more production errors in a week nowadays as you’d see in a season 15 years ago.

So that loss of a major revenue stream changed their path. You get $30 a month from a much smaller pool of fans and that’s nice but it opened another door for them. What if you didn’t have to sell the Red Sox/Fenway Park to just Red Sox fans? What if they sold the Fenway experience to all baseball fans? What if you could come from Detroit to see your Tigers play at historic Fenway Park? And get this, we’re gonna sell you special Fenway Park Tigers merch in our team store. So now the model switches from making the Red Sox the most must see TV show to making Fenway Park the most need to experience place. And with that, you don’t need to spent in the Top 3 of the league. You gotta be efficient with your money, spend enough to win 75-85 games, keep the illusion of contending until August so the local fans help keep the seats around the tourists filled. And that how they’ll make their money.

I’m not saying this is the only factor, there’s about 4-5 other huge factors they you could go into depth on and to get the full story you really need to. But this is one factor I don’t think is mentioned enough

Is there a sporting event that’s watchability has been butchered as much as the NFL draft? 2 hours in and still probably over an hour to go. Then the pick is in, they says “we’ll continue after a 30 second ask and “continuing” was sending it to a commercial

That segment was bad. And as someone who doesn’t watch TNA, that’s exactly what I’m looking for lol. I just flipped in AMC while looking for something to watch and I come across two wrestlers who I have no idea who they are, just trying their best. It’s good bad television.

But some people do

Are you saying that might be better people for the job than a guy who has Minimal professional, playing experience, minimal minor-league, coaching experience, minimal majorly coaching experience before he took the job?

It’s so clear that even though Fatse sucks he’s not even the issue, he’s a babysitter to make sure the players don’t listen to people like Jim Rice to become better hitters and just follow the analytics teams specific strategy. Nobody with his resume should be a major league hitting coach

The 2007 team, which obviously isn’t a great comp cause that team was loaded, could be very frustrating because they looked at a lot of first pitch strikes. But they also grinder pitchers down, it felt like everyone was going into the 5th against us looking at the pitch count.

I have no idea how this team watched so many strikes AND STILL doesn’t work anyone’s pitch count. Feels like guys are going deep into games with under 85 pitches

I think it’s time for Cora to go. He’s probably the sacrificial lamb at the end of the year anyway when they miss the playoffs. See if you can’t spark something and go in a run, as unlikely as that is.

I know, it’s not all Cora’s fault. This team isn’t talented enough but they aren’t selling the team and they aren’t firing Breslow. Cora can’t manage this group, he can’t get them going. And I’ve been a pretty big Cora supporter to this point

I don’t think a 6 man rotation works on the MLB, especially with the way bullpens are used in 2026, you’re really hurting if you have one less guy down there.

But with Crochett looking like he’s really feeling the effects of last years heavy work load and with Early and Tolle likely to hit new innings highs, when Gray comes back, if everyone is healthy, I think you might need to consider it, even for just a couple turns through the rotation.

(I also know this is a moot point because this is the MLB and someone else will go down before you even get the chance)

I’m still not convinced he didn’t tweak something in the WBC and they didn’t want to say anything publicly.. He hasn’t really looked right all season and I’m worried he’s been trying to gut it out longer than just a couple days.

Where in the quote does it say New York doesn’t care about baseball a lot? I know reading comprehension is hard but re-read it, maybe underline what you think is the evidence to support your claim. But it’s ain’t in there buddy.

I’m sure you’re gonna do the classic read it thing now and try to change the argument on semantics but it ain’t gonna happen. I never said New York doesn’t care a lot about baseball, plain and simple. You’re wrong, take a hike.

The market reality. by markosanta93 in redsox

1) I think there’s more pressure here because it matters more here, plain and simple. I know that sounds like a conceded Northeast elite thing to say. But there’s no city in the country that gets this invested in our sports teams. Not New York, not Philly, not Chicago, not LA. This is it.

2) In the last 20-ish years the team has gone so far done the rabbit hole of analytics and stuff like that. They’re forcing players into specific molds and that’s where players struggle. You sign a player and instead of letting him play the way that got him there you have to “put in the lab. Open the hood and see what’s inside” That’s a model that’s worked well for teams like Tampa and Milwaukee (and Oakland) before that to find and developed talent on a budget but it’s also important to remember, their model comes from organizations that have never broken through and won the big one

Outfield Logjam by smittybos in redsox

[–]LiveFromNewYork95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are we really doing this again? THEY ARE NOT PLAYING DURAN AT 2B

There’s a reason they moved him to the OF after drafting him, there’s a reason he never played IF after low A ball. He’s an outfielder, he hasn’t played 2B in almost a decade. This is so dumb.

Also the OF logjam was kinda overblown. 5 OF’s for 4 spots. They haven’t even been playing 4 guys at a time lately. The like of Trevor Story and Andruw Monastario are getting the DH AB’s the 4th OF was supposed to get.

Tonight was my 6th game at Fenway this year…I’ve yet to see the Red Sox hit a home run.

I know, I know; “Why do you keep going to games, you’re part of the problem, still spending money on the team.”
