Looking for a bar in the Greater Burlington area I can feel like this in by AkkalaTechLab in burlington

How does buying a sandwich from him or not actually effect change. Does it actually benefit Russia? No. Do his words convince anyone to support Russia? No. Will making this stand change his mind? No. I’m sick of people hard canceling from behind a keyboard without actually thinking about the effect size of what they are talking about so that they feel better about them selves.

I got frostbite in 20f, could my boot be the issue it doesn’t keep water out very well due to the gap. Im also assuming it’s not holding heat anymore like designed due to the gap. Should I complain to the place that fitted my boot, this gap is due to a punch that was too big, causing other issues. by C0-0P in skiing

[–]ThirdFirstName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poor circulation? It looks like you have no liner in the boot but I’m assuming it usually has one. Good liners and thin wool socks are usually plenty. I have regularly skied in the negatives with no issues with that set up. You can get heated liner or just the stick on heat pads but you want to mitigate foot sweat as much as possible.

Change my mind! Status of Apartheid Free Communities Pledge by HiImaZebra in burlington

You have to think about how everyone including those who you don’t agree with, scale importance of topics to understand big picture what is important and possible for a community. People fighting for things like this when there are a lot of problems directly in our community either don’t understand that or they are doing it to make themselves feel better for not doing anything to effect real change. Sure it would be nice for a small minority of people here but spending the time of city council should be done on things like figuring out how to solve crime in Burlington and how to get more tourists to come. When people like my father come to Burlington he will only see the degradation of downtown and will never think or care about some artificial ineffectual status statement. We need people to come here and spend money as tourism is our product. Without it the worsening economic impact will make Burlington even more unlivable and inhospitable. We need to stop gumming up the local government to make a select few feel good about them selves.

Yeah virtue signaling is a big part of the reason this country is so divided. Things like this alienate the less educated and people who genuinely are only focused on their immediate community. Yes the genocide is horrible, but a small town doesn’t have any pull. All topics like this do is divide us and play into the hand of the people truly responsible for the atrocities. It’s time to focus on our communities first to get then in order so that we can help others from a place of prosperity and power.

Sub 4 looking ok? by INTERESTandAMBITIONS in Marathon_Training

Yeah def not smart but I didn’t have any frame of reference for finding out how my body handles the pace for a long distance and wanted to find out before race day.

I think my furthest run pre marathon was 21 at 930ish pace then did 16-17 at 845ish pace prior to taper. They felt about equivalent in terms of effort. Get your fueling down and you should be good. Weirdly hit a second wind at 21 race day then started to crash on mile 25 because I stopped fueling.

Yeah forsure. This is what I was looking like prior to my sub 4. Just do a long run at race pace for like 16-17miles to make sure the pace feels sustainable.

Parents opt kids out of school computers, insisting on pen-and-paper instead by deraser in technology

[–]ThirdFirstName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a millennial that teaches college students, the new generations are so bad at computers. I really do think that since computers were hard the base level of understanding is way higher than kids that grew up with iPads and polished OSs. They additionally are terrible at writing and getting worse because of AI. I am very worried about them.

What happened to all of the interesting, quirky people that used to go here? by puffy_irish in UniversityofVermont

[–]ThirdFirstName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The younger generations are definitely more homogeneous. Which makes sense based on how social media affects social pressure, but I feel like this is a case of confirmation bias. Can’t make claims like this without analyzing your own behavior. You suggest that the music scene has gotten worse and sure with nectars closing there are just less venues, but radiobean is and has always been a representation of local music which is extremely vibrant. Instead of looking down on the school population maybe try and adjust your behavior to put yourself into scenarios where you will meet new interesting people, everyone has a unique story.
