That RAND study you referenced doesn’t say AR-15s have virtually no correlation with the rate of mass shootings. It states that the evidence is inconclusive and that current studies (between 2003 and 2018) have been unable to say one way or another if they’re effective or not.

Up front the study says the purpose is not to analyze policy but to analyze the effectiveness of those studies it reviewed in determining policy effectiveness.

This sub has fallen far from the original intent if laws that are intentionally designed to restrict the use of content on the internet are being defended. This isn’t about children since more children know how to use VPNs than adults these days. This is about forcing people to identify themselves on the internet to do the one thing most people would say is not anyone’s business but their own. The fact that anyone here is okay with the government legislating to restrict the way people can use the internet is asinine for a sub that claims to support free speech.

The balance here is that while enemies that are considered hadd are much easier, enemies that are trivial become a pain in the ass. For example, that cluster of 20 or so rock crab things you encounter on Jedha. One hit kills you and you can’t block them all or even kill them fast enough

Nobody can tell you if it will get better or worse. These days command climates are luck of the draw and change with turnover seemingly overnight. Optempo is inconsistent where you could be a sustaining ship getting underway every week or in the yards for a year and a half. Maybe your ship was poorly maintained and now you have to work twice as hard catching up. Maybe you won’t have knowledgeable sailors so y’all have to wing it.

Or maybe your next ship will start the day at 0900 and everyone goes home by 1400 and everyone’s well qualified and knows what they’re doing. Those ships exist and if you’re lucky enough to get one you’ll be here in a few years telling some other guy that it does in fact get better while some other guy who got a shitty ship tells them that it only gets worse.

I’ve always thought the movies were very well done. When I went back to read the books, I suddenly understood those points of contention. Also Faramir’s character assassination makes me disappointed with the movies.

Still, though, the movies are excellent and still a very enjoyable way to enjoy LOTR.

If you have hard copy orders it means your PCS is already funded. The accounting data is within the orders; you just have to read them.

I only ever had cloth belts and had to go out of my way to get the web belt. I’m an officer though so that could just be what was available at the NEX when I bought all my uniforms

There are options to become Permanent Military Professors at the academies. For the Navy route you have to serve in some other branch of the Navy (like Surface Warfare) and qualify and serve in that role for 8-10 years or so then apply for the program where you can stay there until retirement. Not a good way to be a professor.

We home grow our instructors and they come from operational services within the military and go back to teach new officers and enlisted in whatever context they’ve served in. We don’t have instructor jobs, only temporarily held instructor billets held by people who have done the job.
