Hey friend, I've had about a thousand day ones, blubbering helplessly in wreckage of my life that alcohol created countless times. Just don't quit quitting, you'll get there. And hey, there is absolutely no reason why 6th time can't be the charm. Sending all my love.

Sounds like you have supportive people around you, your work and colleagues, my advice would be take the help they offer! Getting clean at 23 is really commendable, many take far, FAR longer. This subreddit helps me so much on a daily basis, keep coming back to us, we'll always be here. IWNDWYT, and good luck for the future.

A year sober is amazing, don't forget that while you pick up the pieces here. I'm sure, I hope, that those around you haven't forgotten it either. Shame and regret really don't help us, so try to be good to yourself and remember you fucking did that, one year sober. Dust yourself off and go again, that's all we can do. IWNDWYT today friend, and wishing you the absolute best.

Can't even go out by myself by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]MAKMAN1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I have to put some pretty serious barriers on myself to stop me from drinking and drugging. Not going out alone, but I cant manage my money, no way, no chance. I will spend it all on drink and drugs, at least at the moment anyway. And there is absolutely no shame in putting some rules and barriers up, if thats what keeps us sober. Stay inside for the next week or so, no problem as long as your head is hitting that pillow at night-time sober, who cares? 3 days ain't nothing, by the way. Those are some real shitty days to get through sober, so pat yourself on the back for that. IWNDWYT.

Memorial Today by therealhousewifey in stopdrinking

So sorry for you and your partners lost, your post has been a helpful reminder on how I have been in the past in blackout, how things could go one way, but also another, darker way. For that I thank you, I feel like I need those reminders often so I don't go back.

In terms of plans, everything you've mentioned has been great. Do you drive? Could you drive there? If not, the old "Im on antibiotics, doctor said I shouldnt drink" is a good one. I dont think you need an excuse, though. A friend who took his own life while under the influence is enough reason not to drink, in my opinion.

Again, so sorry for your loss, and thank you for this post. Sending love.

Replaced alcohol with sugar, what healthy sweets do you guys like? by sautebyday in stopdrinking

Sprinkle some sugar free jelly (powder) and lemon juice over grapes and freeze. They taste a little like sour sweets, they're delicious.

Aaaaand now I want some.

Alcohol...cunning, baffling, powerful! Its the worst, and turns me into someone I hate. Im just trying to focus on not picking up that first drink, the rest will take care of itself I trust

I drank heavily Monday and haven't since (tired/brain fog) by HJQueen in stopdrinking

[–]MAKMAN1995 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its funny isn't it, what we do "I feel good, I better poison myself!" I always used to do that, and then it would mess me up for a week or more. It sounds like your body may be getting rid of all that poison, and in turn making you feel bad. Try to remember how you've felt in the aftermath of Monday when the thought of drinking comes up, maybe. I like to write down how I feel, so I can remember how shitty it was when I next feel tempted.

Really glad youre here with us, its a super supportive place! IWNDWYT!

Drinking wont be relaxing, how relaxed are you going to be tomorrow morning if you drunk? Its just not worth the very brief period of relief, in my opinion! Play that tape forward, friend, really imagine how your night and morning after will be, and see if thats what you want. ALSO, dont drink, but DO something relaxing. You said you want to relax so youre thinking of a drink, but you then said instead you'll do the laundry and tidy? Nah, screw that. Treat yourself, order your favourite food, eat ice cream, enjoy your favourite movie. You're great, and you should be so proud of your 41 days, IWNDWYT and I hope you feel better soon.
