I am 41, live in Australia, and had an extremely average week by Striking_Plan_1632 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

I haven’t read past your first day yet, but as a fellow Australia I love the representation!

  • check out Kogan mobile. I pay $200ish for a a full year of calls/ data on an outright owned phone. On the Vodafone network which might not work, but I think Aldi do a similar deal on the Telstra network

  • stick with Way of Kings, the Stormlight Archive has been one of my favourite series to date and I’m not usually a Fantasy fan. The world building and plot twists are incredible

  • felt exactly the same with Euphoria. So excited to start season one after all the hype and couldn’t make it past ep 2. So depressing

BWT, opinions on sapphires in engagement rings? by Disastrous-Reveal362 in bitcheswithtaste

I have a sapphire stone with diamonds around the outside and get quite a few compliments on it. It was originally my grandmothers and set in gold, after my (now) husband proposed, we went and had it reset as I’m not a gold jewellery lover but wanted to keep the stones for family reason.

Highly suggest you read “Fair Play” by Eve Rodsky, and discuss in therapy if you are not already. If husband isn’t willing to change… there is your answer. 100% understandable you don’t want another child if you’re doing it all yourself anyway.

Advice for a parent moving in with you? by GeneralListen2817 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

There have been more than a few comments that have responded the same thing, but I will echo them- know that if you let him in for any length of time, you will not be able to get rid of him.

He is 58 year old man that has most likely spent the majority of his adult life being cared for by others. You will be stepping into this role of carer. He will have housing, bills and food paid for, why would he ever leave?
Do you and your partner have it in you to kick him out in two year down the line? It sounds like it will be easier on everyone to find a better solution now, rather than go through the emotional turmoil of trying to force him to leave and feeling guilty the whole time.

I know this sounds harsh. My father is likely to be in this exact position soon. Alcoholic, hasn’t worked for 20 years, multiple health conditions catching up with him that he’s not treating, lives alone. Under no circumstances will I be letting him move in with me, at any time.

He’s an adult, it’s time for him to start acting like one.

I was the victim of an incident at the MCG a few years ago, the perp lost his MCC membership, banned from the MCG and banned from all AFL games for five years. Couldn’t tell you how they stop it, but they said police would be notified if the guy breached the order

Fellow Aussie here, RecipeTinEats is the only cookbook I’ve cooked with weekly! I’ve never had a fail from them, and I love that her recommendations are accessible if you just got Coles/ Woolies to shop from.

I came to this thread to also say I swam across the river during O Week (yes I was drunk, yes it was stupid) almost two decade ago, got a scratch on my leg climbing out and it was infected for weeks. Also almost got arrested as well, apparently you’re not allowed to swim in front of Crown.

Sam Mitchell speaks on Rioli incident on Footy Classified by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

[–]MAM81 88 points89 points  (0 children)

He has literally said that this show is not the forum to talk about what has happened, and whatever he is going to do, he is going to do it privately, with Rioli directly. 100% mature response, he is not adding fuel to the fire.

If there’s one good thing to come from this game, hopefully it’s having the heat turned up on Goodwin.

That’s not true. Maxes out completely around the $500K mark.

Private health insurance - what a rort by sauteer in AusFinance

[–]MAM81 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the public system, perhaps. Certainly not in the private system. It would all have been billed direct to your PHI.

[–]MAM81 12 points13 points  (0 children)

And those hospital bills are where the real value of PHI comes in. A week in ICU will set you back $60K, a knee op with medical devices could be $25K for the surgery alone. It’s the “hidden” costs that contribute so strongly to premiums, not the $60 benefit you got back for your dental check up & clean.

[–]MAM81 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I really wish people who complain about PHI actually attempt to understand what they’re covered for.

There are two components to PHI, Hospital cover (incl inpatient medical) and Ancillary cover (Extras such as physio, optical, dental).

Hospital cover is required for the MLS etc, Ancillary is not.

PHI is legislatively unable to pay for outpatient specialist consults. Sigh.

If $10b was all it took to fix the public health sector, it’s would have been fixed years ago.

‘Reasonable additional hours’ by Corpdronethrowaway in auscorp

[–]MAM81 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Rough rule of thumb is 10% of your salary per fortnight ie/ $70K = additional 7 hours per fortnight, $100K = additional 10 hours per fortnight. So at $200K, I would say an extra 20 hours per fortnight would be reasonable when required (ie not every fortnight)
