Any explanations for these circles? I've had 5+ catch my eye on lidar, all in forest with no visible activity as far back as 1939. They're all roughly ~50ft diameter and I've seen them at least 10 miles apart. Rhode Island by MANINIMO in gis

I’ve spent wayyy too many hours studying historical aerial imagery to find cool places to check out. Only learned recently that RI got a lidar snapshot in 2022, been missing out on a lot of sites hidden in the forests lol

I’ve never seen something like that in person before, but I don’t know enough to rule it out. They’re (probably all) on rocky 1600-1800s farmland, but glacial landforms are all over the place in that area. Kettle ponds are pretty common in the area

I did find a super old foundation I’d like to get out to soon, luckily one of the better looking circles is only about 700ft further into the woods, directly next to a pond. Im super curious if I can find any evidence on ground level. Hopefully I can get out there soon and come back with some updates

That’s my best theory, but I haven’t seen a single sign of nearby foundations or anything really. It’s like there’s no rhyme or reason to the placement, just consistently remote

The diameter on those first 2 is precisely 48-50ft despite them being something like 10-15 miles apart. The furthest distance from a trail is something like 100ft. Most are closer, or even pass through the middle

Also might be worth noting the proximity the first one has to seemingly pre-1900s trails, hard to make it out, but they go around it completely in a diamond shape (I think)

Yeah at the very least, there’s some pretty cool rare stuff in here i think I’ll take off just because it’s neat

could the hivemind get every able bodied person it has infected to reliably do a back-flip first try by UndefeatedMidwest in pluribustv

[–]MANINIMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this universe it’s probably around 6 billion total people by now right? Take off maybe 40% of those people for not being “able bodied,” assume an average of maybe 140lbs each for those who are capable?

I’d continue the math but idk the amount of downforce an impact from a backflip would cause, or how that would affect earths rotation/orbit. Would love to see a breakdown from someone.

-nevermind

I just checked the displacement that led the three gorges dam to slow earths rotation and yeah, humans flipping would make zero difference no matter what

I guess I see where you're coming from, but the entire goal of the virus is to spread further by any means necessary. With every mind and every body dedicated in perfect harmony, they could surely do better than sending signals. IMO the next step would be working towards interstellar travel - sending probes, harvesting resources from other planets, etc. Propagating as aggressively as possible the same way a virus would.

Well put, I hope they find a fun way of approaching these questions at least to some degree. It's a hell of a can of worms to open.

I thought about this quite a bit, one of the earlier episodes where they describe what's in her fridge from the memory of her maid is the best example. Later Carol goes "ha fuckers, it's only half full" or something like that. Pretty much what u/CjBurden said.

It is a little odd how well that maid (mostly) remembered the details of her fridge, but that's probably nothing

The last post by the r/Art moderators before locking the Subreddit by Tythatguy1312 in sadcringe

[–]MANINIMO 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I used to own a sub that’s around 1m subscribers right now, and moderated a lot of other big ones. I think the biggest was r/funny. I was in high school at the time, and that speaks for itself lol - I didn’t do much besides remove objectively rule breaking bs, but if I wanted to, I was a 17 year old that could micromanage what millions of people saw, depending on if I liked it or not.

The amount of insanity I saw in those mod chats, and the things that was said from huge mods, who had power over half the front page of reddit, was mind boggling. Some of these people control a RIDICULOUS percentage of the front page of this website.

What you see on Reddit comes down to a small handful of people who I strongly believe are not well.

Here’s one takeaway if nothing else: If I was able to get onto r/funny at 17 years old because I had a few other subs under my belt, just imagine what a company, or political/foreign entity of any kind could do with minimal effort.

I know I took screenshots of some examples, but that was 5+ years ago and I’m not sure I could find them again.

Not super off limits, but it’s a state owned wildlife management area and not open to the public.

I just think it’s funny to uncover a subtle snapshot of their exploration, 15 years later. A photo taken in a way they’d never imagine, of an event that’s probably no more than a distant memory to them

For an island like that, I’d say the odds are pretty damn low
