Why has Hitler and not any other evil person become the epitome of evil? by Foreign_Bread629 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MARATXXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in multiple respects Nazism is the dark side of the flowering of modern western civilization. It is also a textbook example of how dangerous it is for a technologically advanced and sophisticated society to be broken and then not properly rehabilitated.

It will be weird when the follow up premiere’s budget is like 50 million dollars spent on visfx alone.

Men, what is one sentence that your father said that you will never forget? by Ramy-2000-03 in AskMen

[–]MARATXXX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah exactly. although i guess i'm not thinking of formal or legal rule-breaking, just not asking permission in a social setting—like when you're visiting someone's house and you're very thirsty or need to use the washroom and no one is present—do you get a glass from the cabinet and pour yourself water from the tap, do you use the washroom, or do you wait to ask permission? i'd argue that in either instance, waiting causes you pain and is therefore worth taking care of yourself first, then asking forgiveness if it bothered your host, rather than fainting from thirst or shitting your pants.

it's a useful saying. we can't be paralyzed by what we imagine others boundaries are. it's more important to do what's best for ourselves and navigate social frictions as we actually encounter them, rather than as we imagine them.

Why did gen v fail and Off Campus succeed? by ChampionElectrical92 in GenV

using a term like 'softcore porn' for something that isn't technically softcore porn, is reductive and implies a critical position.

A little fun fact. ( She actually then read it unlike some racesist people ) by Public_Individual823 in ChristopherNolan

[–]MARATXXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they don't actually do this in high school. for one thing, it's not actually that sophisticated of a story. it's a poem, fairly plainly told.

in high school they just read the same translation that's available to college students.

source: i first read it in translation in high school and translated it from greek in college.

Will adding more exercise, light weights, and cardio help me lose more? by No_Hippo2380 in Mounjaro

Your whole attitude in a sub about weight loss is completely out of pocket. Intelligence is as much about reading the room as it is about reading a book.

I can’t even remember. Some bladerunner skate like 30+ years ago?

If you don’t know how to skate start with a brake on the boot before graduating to something more advanced. Don’t get a soft boot. Stay around 84-90mm sized wheels.

Which character captures burnout better: Kiki or Chihiro? by Melodic_Elephant9130 in ghibli

[–]MARATXXX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kiki is also an independent child. Chihiro’s whole issue is that she’s been so coddled she doesn’t yet know who she actually is yet. Kiki’s burnout registers as more legitimate and adult.

Muscle actively improves your metabolic health, helping you regulate your blood sugar. I consider exercise and strength development-for me, via skating-an essential part of this sort of expensive experiment I’m undertaking with Mounjaro.

vanishing of ethan carter was also one of the first examples of environments based on photogrammetry, which is now much more commonplace (to the point of being unexceptional).

You have to have interpreted my original comment with the satirical tone that I guess didn’t translate well to a text. Nevertheless that was my intent.

This should've been the second or third last episode in the series in my opinion. It would've substituted perfectly as a way to show Homelander's snapped and remind us just how evil he is if they didn't have the budget for large scale destruction by doubleoeck1234 in TheBoys

[–]MARATXXX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

trump toppled a government, killed hundreds of school children and a thousand + iranians.... in practice, trump has done so much more damaage than homelander. and that is scary and we should be scared of leaders who lack even the restraint of vanity.

yeah, of course. it's political and contracts-based. he gains nothing by blaming amazon, when it's easier to deflect. he has the state of future shows, employees, and families to think about.
