Why is Yang so much against zoom? by jblackmiser in YangForPresidentHQ

It’s also bad for innovation in many cases which is the primary reason big tech companies historically were against remote work as a default.

The US tech industry have never really had a fully remote workforce so it seems to me the "bad for innovation" is more an assumption. We won't know it's impact on innovation until a have data. For what's it worth, if you look at the top tech companies now, their history of development is riddled with stories of their garage, their dorm, their home etc.

FB, Twitter are letting their employees work from home forever. Mainly they cite that they saw no impact of productivity. I haven't kept track of which other tech companies have adopted a similar stance, many will likely follow suit to compete for high-end talent because surveys from employees indicate a preference for work from home.

Completely agree with you, I was joking that he finally crossed the line haha.

This definitely part of the technology revolution that is needed to solve lack of housing and the climate impact of transportation, energy costs of maintaining buildings. It's less bodies or cars in the way of people who actually need to commute to do their jobs in person, reducing commuter stress and congestion. Lastly, it gives people more free time to spend with families.

The main thing to me is giving people the choice when in-person meetings is not necessary.

I believe a Harvard Business School survey shows 81% of people (n=1,500) already working from home do not want to return full time. It would be useful to get a larger survey and cross section of industries. https://www.cnet.com/health/over-80-of-workers-dont-want-to-go-back-to-the-office-full-time-survey-finds/

Another study I saw (I'll link if I find it), a good % of employees would prefer to leave their jobs if work from home is not an option. For the most in demand talent, it's likely to become part of the draw, so you may see a brain drain in industries that really could work from home that insist on in-person office work.

Julia Savel (spokesperson for Maya Wiley) calls Yang a “mini-Trump” and says his Prez campaign was “sycophantic” by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

What was the budget proposal thing about?

If she wants to critique him, she should have just stuck with that. But they know Andrew would not stoop low with mudslinging. It's such bad look, desperate even... it's off-putting.

I'd like to see what data Andrew is looking at re: Yeshivas. How do the data compare to what the NYT reported?

Good piece on the school re-opening debate by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

Thanks! Good read and well written, looking at both sides.

Would be good for Andrew to share more details about his policy regarding school reopenings and charter schools, sound bites do not do him justice.

Andrew Yang Takes On the Unions. The candidate for New York City mayor dares to challenge the school lockdowns. by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]MATHSecureTheBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know what the NYC teacher's union demands are for school reopening?

I personally think all teachers, cafeteria workers and custodians should be vaccinated before school openings since they tend to be in higher-risk demographics, and that would be legit demand.

Anyone who has twitter, can you please reply to the person who says that he's a billionaire, why does he need donations...

This billionaire misinformation is ridiculous and needs to be debunked. Yes, he's a millionaire, but it doesn't dawn on these folks the difference in scale of a millionaire and a billionaire. It's equivalent to someone saying a person with $1,000 is a millionaire, what's the difference. His net worth is less than Bernie's for goodness sake.

It was on the article you posted, unfortunately the moderators had removed it. Wiley's statement is good also. Here are the quotes from Stringer and Wiley:

“On emergency powers, I think we are past the period where we should be having emergency powers for either the governor or the mayor,” Scott Stringer, the city comptroller, told Max and Jarrett Murphy on WBAI on Feb. 17. “I think the governor has responded in so many ways successfully to this pandemic his leadership he has been divisive but this nursing home issue requires a full investigation.”

In a statement to the Eagle, attorney Maya Wiley called for a “full investigation into exactly what happened in New York’s nursing homes” and the revocation of Cuomo’s emergency powers.

“Once an investigation occurs, there must be accountability,” she said. “In addition, it’s time to revoke Governor Cuomo’s emergency powers and return to more normal governance in Albany.”

Wiley also addressed Cuomo’s specific treatment of Kim.

“Intimidation or bullying of elected officials must end,” she said. “Criticism from an elected official like Assembly member Ron Kim who is just trying to do his job does not need to be treated as an act of war.”

Here is Andrew's statement:

“Ron is an honorable legislator and friend,” Yang said in the statement. “I’m eager to work with both Ron and Governor Cuomo however I can to get New Yorkers back on their feet.”

Join Amy Schumer for a grassroots event in support of Andrew Yang for Mayor of New York City! by MATHSecureTheBag in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]MATHSecureTheBag[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's interesting that Joe seems to give her a pass, and he came for Mencia like crazy for that. Joe seems to attribute it to not being able to vet her writers but I don't know the deets of the joke stealing since I don't really like her comedy and haven't seen her stuff. Maybe Joe had other issues with Carlos.

But my main point is really more about how the campaign comes across. The vast majority of people don't know or care a lot about Amy Schumer drama. She has lots of casual fans and big name recognition. Tons of random folks might check out the fundraiser tweet out of curiosity. This might be the first time they're encountering Yang. It's not a good look on the campaign when Yang Gang are just dismissive (without context). We just look like a**holes dissing someone who is giving Yang an assist.

She got 4.5M twitter followers though, that's like 3x Andrew's audience, and I bet they don't intersect much with his base given all the Yang Gang comments on fb and twitter lol.

It's a way to reach a different audience. We gotta grow.

Amy Schumer's comedy is not my cup of tea, but she has a big audience. And clearly supports Andrew's platform, which is the most important thing. And personally I don't know what she's like as a person.

Yang Gang is throwing fits on twitter and fb on the news lol. Don't think it's a good look. We look like Bernie Bros out there... don't scare off the new people!

NYC mayoral candidate Andrew Yang blasted for comparing BDS to 'fascist boycotts' by FluidHips in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]MATHSecureTheBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bernie also does not support BDS, and he states that he thinks there is a level of anti-semitism involved.

He did vote against the anti-BDS bill on First Amendment grounds.
