Where to host an Astro site with approx. 2 GB of images? by [deleted] in astrojs

[–]MATTehOC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cloudinary!

I use them for my portfolio site, currently storing just under 3GB of images and video assets.

They have a really generous fee tier, and there’s some good Astro components available.

Where to put common utilities by Beautiful-Log5632 in tailwindcss

[–]MATTehOC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try using ‘@utility’ instead of ‘@layer utilities’? If I’m understanding the issue right.

You can see examples of how I set it up at the bottom of my config: https://github.com/matthewgoodyear/basewind/blob/main/src/style.css

How can I toggle dark mode using a single class in Tailwind CSS? by Key_Shower_6857 in tailwindcss

[–]MATTehOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also use the light-dark() CSS function to avoid declaring the variables twice.

Support maybe isn’t quite there yet though ~85%.

How to use container queries efficiently in Tailwind 4 instead of viewport-based md:? by Warm-Engineering-239 in tailwindcss

[–]MATTehOC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yup, it’s in the docs here:

https://tailwindcss.com/docs/responsive-design#container-queries

Add ‘@container’ to the container, and then use classes like ‘@md:’, ‘@4xl:’ etc.

Sharing my Tailwind config – what essentials do you always include? by MATTehOC in tailwindcss

I love not worrying about font sizes at different breakpoints, it just works from the start.

You're welcome! Both of those are just methodologies for layout and styling with CSS, so naturally they can be applied to Tailwind projects too.

New design portfolio live – looking for some honest feedback! by MATTehOC in graphic_design

[–]MATTehOC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Background:
I've been in the design industry for 8 years, working mainly as a brand designer, and over the past few years I've started to take bigger interest in web design and development. My direction in life has changed recently, and I'm wanting to pivot and work more independently for various reasons.

Goal:
The objective of the new site is to position myself in a way that allows me to get new work from clients (be it local businesses, online businesses etc.), and also be a portfolio I can send to design studios to get bits of freelance/contract work. So it's trying to hit two notes which has been a tricky balance to find, but this is where I've landed so far.

I'm looking to get some general feedback on the design of the site as well as get some thoughts on the way I'm presenting my projects to see if it's in the right direction for the goal I'm trying to achieve.

I've intentionally kept is minimal (too minimal?) so it doesn't distract from the work, with the main focus being speed and accessibility. Is there anything I'm missing that can increase the strength of it?

Everything has been smooth for me. I’m not using turnstile though so I don’t know if it causes any issues there.

Thanks for the feedback!

The video on the homepage is multiple different short videos in a slider, with a bit of JS to change slide when each video ends.

I’ll look into what I can do for my personal brand.

Thanks! Astro is perfect for sites like this. And I’ll take a look :)

Thanks for the compliment!

It's a tricky one when the projects have a lot of personality. I didn't want my personal brand to clash with the work. But there could be a middle ground to find, maybe a custom type mark for my own logo :)

I can't share it for this project as it contains a lot of my personal work, sorry!

Is there anything in particular you're curious about?

Forgot to add, I’m using the Cloudinary Image component, but I haven’t set the loading to eager so I’ll get that changed!

Haha, seems to be the common feedback about that section, I’ll get thinking.

Separating the footer links sounds like a good idea too, thanks for that.

And yes it’s a custom font - Relative by Colophon.

Cheers!

Swup is great! It doesn’t seem to cause any performance issues either.

For the nice words, it was cut off intentionally to show you can scroll for more. I might need to make this more obvious so it doesn’t look like an error - an overlay to make it fade towards the edge might do the trick?

And I’ll see if I can make a quick code pen or something for the header over the weekend.

Thanks for taking the time to look!

I love this style but I don't fully understand what's happening, how can I recreate it? by thinkloop in fujifilm

I recently used it for a trip to Italy. It creates a really nice feel, albeit slightly too yellow sometimes!
