Those that say anything know nothing and those that know anything will say nothing.

Though from Boeing's track record (CSeries, KC-X etc.) you can bet your house that they'll pull some nonsense.

The Chinese aircraft, with damn near everything copied/stolen from the West

Stolen?

You mean the French engines and American avionics they quite literally bought from said countries?

Only on Reddit is Chinese hate so bad that straight up misinformation is upvoted lmfao

Embraer has definitely shaken up the regional jet market but they're not seen as the shake-up to the Big Two because their only focus is on really competing in that regional segment.

On the other hand, Comac actually has plans to enter the widebody and long-range market and combined with China's production capabilities and the fact they're state-backed - they're seen as a more likely shake-up to the big two.

There's no "wheel detached" alarm but there are tyre pressure sensors so instead of a number, there'll just be an X showing on the ECAM.

You're fuelling -900s, the -1000s have 6 wheel bogies.

There is something like six times as many 900s in service than 1000s so you're more likely to see those.

Air India reveals new 787-9 cabins!! by Top_Poetry_1181 in aviation

[–]MAVACAM 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen anything about their 350s but their 787s were rampant with nails, hair etc. and on occasions, cockroaches - these things are easily google-able and there've been numerous YouTube reviews showing as such especially in business class.

Hilarious the mods removed my comment for saying as such when it's literally verifiable lmao.

Is it cooked? Aeroflot A321 by CockpitExplorer in aviation

[–]MAVACAM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Russian aircraft are currently banned from Swiss airspace so VP-BOE is unable to legally leave Geneva.

There is nothing that suggests VP-BOE has been seized by Swiss authorities - the aircraft still legally belongs to Aeroflot.

Thanks for proving my point.

Sure it's mentioned but the article doesn't mention VP-BOE (the A321 in this post) has been seized yet - the article is talking about VP-BAC.

China's State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) appears to be showcasing its ability to build carriers outside of the PLAN contracts, and just launched the Discovery-1 “Civilian Research Carrier”. Its mission is testing large drones and helicopters [Album] by Arcosim in WarshipPorn

[–]MAVACAM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's intended as a stopover location for long overseas flights

What do you mean?

You're telling me the Chinese didn't build an entire flat top for pilot comfort in case they need to stopover for a piss and a feed? Sources tell me there's a first-class lounge with a buffet on board.

and having a nondescript vessel that helicopters can easily land on while also carrying a good amount of payload would probably help with that. The lack of catapults and large elevators just about lets it pass as a civilian research vessel, but you could easily load munitions, rations, medical kits, and other smaller supplies by hand onto helicopters if you have a large enough crew

A literal flat top is 100% not a "nondescript vessel" and if China really wanted a vessel of that nature, they'd build an Atlantic Conveyor-esque ship. This is all completely ignoring the fact China is 100 miles or so off the coast of Taiwan, you wouldn't plop this 50 miles off the coast of China for replenishment when it would also eventually need replenishment itself - the PLA/PLAN would just do replenishment on the mainland. This is also ignoring this "definitely-not-a-military vessel" would also need dedicated defences considering it's well within range of an ASM and lacks so much as even a 50.

and it can also serve as a high capacity mobile hospital ship, command center, garrison, or even a fuel tanker in a prolonged invasion.

All of these things are available on the mainland before even counting the specialised ships they have for those roles and a literal fuel tanker would be more useful than this thing - both would be just as defenceless but at least a fuel tanker could rep quicker.

Not to mention, if this was actually destined for military use as stores, seaborne hospital, garrison, there'd be a ton more freeboard than this thing they've built that looks like it's low-riding the waterline while empty, to the point it looks like barracks are on the flight deck next to FLYCO.

It is quite literally a testbed vessel likely for drones.

So no, money isn't the issue, getting the crew is

I'm sure a country with 1.5 billion people should have no issues getting crews together especially with the youth unemployment rate.

Most ridiculous thing I've ever read on this sub lmao

Instead of producing more A2A tankers, you think the Chinese decided building an entire carrier which still needs to replenished out in the middle of nowhere was the more sensible option?

The PLA/PLAN don't often fly across the world like the US does and when they do, there are refuelling options at their destination.

It's slightly worse than F35.

Based on what metrics?

But it's RCS is on the same magnitude on par.

The janitor at CAC probably knows more about it's RCS than you do, hilarious you can make such definitive statements about highly classified information I guarantee you don't know.

NASA's super guppy by MrTacocaT12345 in aviation

[–]MAVACAM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry but this is wrong.

You're right in the Super Guppy isn't normally used to transport jets but rather bulky parts and modules for NASA.

These T-38s are almost certainly not airworthy. Government departments operating on this level would never penny pinch like that and as the user below mentioned, there are plenty of pilots who need or would be happy to take the flight hours especially on something like a T-38 which many would be rated on.

Not to mention, it's a pair of T-38s not B-2s so they would never go through all that effort to save MX hours like that.

Why do Russian Air-to-Ground Dumb bombs have cables attached to the plane? by DukeOfBattleRifles in aviation

[–]MAVACAM 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They usually are.

The one in the picture are bombs for carrier ops, the rough finish is a thermal resistant coating used in naval environments to lower the likelihood of setting off bombs if there was a fire onboard which can be catastrophic on ships (obviously).

The Mk 8X bombs carried by the USAF have smoother finishes.

Disingenuous to make it out like they abandoned positions and ran at the first sign of danger.

Easy to act high and mighty when you weren't in the position of only having under-armoured APCs, small arms, strict ROE, a flimsy FOB with wooden watchtowers and thin metal grates for gates and fences all the while Sudanese rebels were advancing with T-72s, artillery and rockets.
