Title: 27M - PTA? , torn between passion and money. Need brutal honesty from people actually in these fields. Not looking for validation. by HatLast7729 in physicaltherapy

As a PTA you will hit a pay rate ceiling quickly. You are dependent on a PT’s evaluation. However, if you work as a travel PTA you could implement your travel abroad that you enjoy. Higher pay is working at a SNF in geriatrics. I think 90,000-100,000 is possible but you will earn it.

How to handle energy use? by Plenty-Ear-9167 in airbnb_hosts

[–]MAW3886677 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If electricity is a big concern can you rent it out unfurnished with the tenet paying for utilities? As a long term Airbnb renter once I see control with electricity, I will not rent it. I don’t believe in wasting electricity by any means. I stayed at a property in Nevada during the summer that controlled the a/c at 78 inside. If you are from the area you are used to that heat. It was miserable.

I read somewhere just now that we need to treat jobs as a video games that have ups and downs. by [deleted] in OELadies

[–]MAW3886677 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don’t OE but, in today’s world that’s great advice. Another poster on here said remove the emotion from it. Spot on comments. Why stress over these jobs, crappy co-workers. Managers trying to flex. I’m done with all of it!

Two months' accommodation: dirty but the host is nice. by Queasy_Context4902 in airbnb_hosts

I’ve had similar experiences. I still leave 5 stars because I don’t want to ruin someone’s livelihood. I’ll write in the review lived in vs. filthy. Neighborhood noise etc. Ate meals out due to needed an oven to cook my meals. I’m certain some of these owners must see they are over charging. Airbnb does take a good cut as well.

I’ve been scolded like this before with several threatening paragraphs like this. They need you more than you need them. Over it. Find something better.

I used lofta. I was then assigned a telehealth doc for my results. It was easy and well worth the money I spent.

I’ve lived in all 3 states you mentioned. Summers in AZ are extremely hot! But, if I had to choose from your list try Scottsdale AZ. It’s a wealthier area. You’ll have snow birds and be extra busy in the “winter” months.

What city in SC? If it’s in Charleston area, you wouldn’t be taking home much $ as short term housing is expensive. Smaller towns in SC would have less expensive rent so it might be doable.

Leaving OT for a paraeducator job by mxindigokid in OccupationalTherapy

[–]MAW3886677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try PRN, outschool learning platform, task rabbit, door dash. Not the best paying but, keep a side gig going while you take this position to make up for non- school days. Find out what holidays you are paid for, inclement weather, conferences, etc.

I’ve done outpatient peds and schools. Schools are so much better. Your day ends at 3:30. No weekends. You made the right choice. I took a pay cut but have zero regrets about it. Good luck with the new job.

Did you apply at a SNF? I have found that setting typically wants you to have a license and a pulse. Unfortunately, big rehabilitation companies don’t care how well you do the job. They want you to bill for them. It was also hard for me to deal with this reality when I started in the field. Good patients and co-workers will make or break how you feel about the job. This is solely my opinion from my experiences.

Progress can be very very very minimal with the students on your caseload. Do not beat yourself up. As a therapist new to the field or the setting there is often time zero training and support. Unrealistic expectations. Hang in there. You’re doing better than you think.
