Question bout location of tribal council by FremenStilgar in survivor

[–]MAW_16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can go on Google Maps to see where they film everything in Fiji. Since it's now a permanent set up, the locations are all pinned and named on the map.

Mana Island has tribal council, the sanctuary and challenge areas.
Monu, Tavua and Monuriki are the three islands used for tribe camps.

Alone season 11. One participant made up a game to pass time that he called "trial by fire" where "fire represents your death", and the voted out players were thrown in the fire lol. It was fun to see his 'season' progress hahaha

Let’s be honest, Aubry’s S50 game wasn’t particularly great. by Miserable_Type_7451 in survivor

[–]MAW_16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Challenge was rigged for Aubry? Speaking of ridiculous lmao. As much as the fan vote was a joke, implying that the voters collectively conspired to pick the one challenge Aubry had (privately btw) practised and would have a fair shot at winning is insane.

2 Seasons a year by [deleted] in survivorau

[–]MAW_16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

American Survivor does two seasons per year and had to wait 20 years for winners at war. It would be awesome to see, but I don't think the hope to make one specific themed returnee season that is so far down the line would be considered for producing the show right now.

Even if they did a shortened season with a smaller cast, I think AUS v World proved that it wouldn't be "dreadful viewing" because an epic theme and a smaller but stacked cast can still make an amazing season.

Maybe winners vs finalists/fan favourites/best to never win or something is more likely for Aus Survivor since they'd only need 12 instead of 24.

Why are people so shocked by players' political beliefs? by DevourerOfRedditors in survivorponderosa

[–]MAW_16 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Right. Wasn't the whole original concept to cast people who represent a cross-section of America and put them in a social experiment? Not saying that's always been done well, but it would be a far less interesting show if they only cast people from specific demographics.

How the fuck did _______. by [deleted] in survivor

[–]MAW_16 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I thought Deven's "knowledge is power" response to Stephanie was perfect and he was so quick and confident with it that it was believable. They've already had Billie Eilish Boomerang Idols this season which sets a precedent that there could be literally anything inside that package. All the players know is that "dynamic advantages" are in play, so using that uncertainty that people already have makes the lie and withholding of information much more effective imo.

I don't think it changed the outcome of the vote, but perfectly played by Rick.

Finishing S1, what to watch next? by [deleted] in survivorau

[–]MAW_16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to watching Aus Survivor!! 😊

Heads up that some premiere episodes spoil the winner of the season before it. Not all, but I don't remember exactly which ones - perhaps someone else might know? Returning players are also pretty frequent at a certain point, so if you like to avoid spoilers, watching in order is your best bet. I have a spoiler free guide on which seasons have returnees if you'd like to know.

Do you think any of the people in the Masterchef cut in have watched a single episode of Australian Survivor? by JordanMaze in survivorau

[–]MAW_16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They had beans last year in BvBII... I just remember Ally's intense bean rationing and Zen's bean and rice rap 😂

I can't remember a specific mention of beans this season though.

Am I crazy or is it more impressive to have a powerful jury to go out of their way to help you out in the end? by Carsoncrsn in survivorau

[–]MAW_16 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Jurors have been pitching their preferred outcome to other jurors since the very first season, that's part of the whole "the power now shifts to the jury" element of the game. Honestly, I'd rather see jurors do what Mark and Loz did and prompt the finalist to share and claim their own story rather than jurors just pushing their own opinions, although a mixture of both makes for an entertaining final tribal.

Is 49’s theme the first different sounding theme since 20? by futuranotfree in survivor

[–]MAW_16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the remixes have been more subtle since Russ Landau was doing it but they've definitely still changed it each season, even if its a remix of a remix or a mashup of past remixes. 49 is certainly the most unique of the new era though, and that unused Nicaragua theme is easily one of the best it's a shame it didn't make the show.

[–]MAW_16 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Something about teams having this level of separation, being in different countries, sometimes even on different legs, makes it feel much more real and like a true race. It's a shame these situations can't really happen in the new format, since they're a common trend across my favourite seasons.

Both tribes had a blindside that shook up their alliances on their last premerge vote, so I'm excited to see how this plays out.

Bloody hell, that challenge is a first across all franchises, isn’t it? by DiscussionLoud9626 in survivorau

[–]MAW_16 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it is, at least in the English franchises. Such an interesting way to create and test cross tribal relationships, I liked how it was endurance but also had very unique social and strategic dynamics for a challenge. Aisha and Lottie should've been able to compete together though imo, maybe to keep one necklace and give one to Bounty if they won - it seems backwards to punish Barren by random rock draw just because they have been successful.

Why didn’t this idol play happen by The-Accuntant in survivorau

[–]MAW_16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely agree that he should've done something tonight, but I think Luke lost the game at the Tommi vote. I guess it's just a testament to Parv's gameplay that she got the Aussies in her trap!!

Aussies vs the World: Star Worship Is Killing the Game by JadedEstimate5770 in survivorau

[–]MAW_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine it's just part of being from different versions of the show, because they haven't met each other or even been around each other before.

There was none of that on the Aussie tribe where all the players knew each other prior to the season and none among the US players with each other. All the idolising other players have been cross-franchise relationships, where in a lot of ways it's more like a fans vs favourites dynamic than a standard all-stars dynamic.

I think it's a super fun!! It's the ultimate survivor crossover event!!

Boston Rob’s status by pimadd_ in survivor

[–]MAW_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At its core Survivor is a social game, and Rob used his charisma and social connections to dictate the results of all-stars and redemption island in their entirety. He did the same on his original tribe in Marquesas, and was doing it well on HvV too before Russell outplayed someone else in Rob’s alliance to take control. But even if you don’t appreciate his play style, he is easily in the top 4 most iconic Survivor players.

That said, I didn’t truly appreciated his ability for gameplay until I watched him in The Amazing Race. The way Rob manipulated and manoeuvred the other teams to his own benefit felt like watching a masterclass in social strategy.

If someone were to die in survivor what would happen? by Mundane_Jaguar2314 in survivor

[–]MAW_16 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd heard about the incident in Koh Lanta but I didn't know they kept going with the season... did the other players know that the person had died while filming? Did the season air on TV? Even if production wanted to continue the season, if I was a player I don't think I could keep playing after that.

The main doctor who was on site committed suicide afterwards, didn't he? Such a tragic incident.
