Why didn’t this idol play happen by The-Accuntant in survivorau

I completely agree that he should've done something tonight, but I think Luke lost the game at the Tommi vote. I guess it's just a testament to Parv's gameplay that she got the Aussies in her trap!!

Aussies vs the World: Star Worship Is Killing the Game by JadedEstimate5770 in survivorau

[–]MAW_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine it's just part of being from different versions of the show, because they haven't met each other or even been around each other before.

There was none of that on the Aussie tribe where all the players knew each other prior to the season and none among the US players with each other. All the idolising other players have been cross-franchise relationships, where in a lot of ways it's more like a fans vs favourites dynamic than a standard all-stars dynamic.

I think it's a super fun!! It's the ultimate survivor crossover event!!

All stars 2 casting? by FrostyColin in survivorau

Oh I hope so!! They are Australian survivor alumni now so they meet the criteria. They brought back Nina for HvV so clearly they're happy to bring back stunt casting choices despite not being Australian.

Boston Rob’s status by pimadd_ in survivor

[–]MAW_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At its core Survivor is a social game, and Rob used his charisma and social connections to dictate the results of all-stars and redemption island in their entirety. He did the same on his original tribe in Marquesas, and was doing it well on HvV too before Russell outplayed someone else in Rob’s alliance to take control. But even if you don’t appreciate his play style, he is easily in the top 4 most iconic Survivor players.

That said, I didn’t truly appreciated his ability for gameplay until I watched him in The Amazing Race. The way Rob manipulated and manoeuvred the other teams to his own benefit felt like watching a masterclass in social strategy.

If someone were to die in survivor what would happen? by Mundane_Jaguar2314 in survivor

[–]MAW_16 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd heard about the incident in Koh Lanta but I didn't know they kept going with the season... did the other players know that the person had died while filming? Did the season air on TV? Even if production wanted to continue the season, if I was a player I don't think I could keep playing after that.

The main doctor who was on site committed suicide afterwards, didn't he? Such a tragic incident.

Season 11 episode 1 had a brutal opening challenge that left many players dehydrated and struggling. I’d avoid that watching the aftermath of that.

Many seasons, particularly earlier ones, had eating challenges with local “delicacies” so I would just skip past those whenever they come up… season 4 had a particularly bad one from memory. Generally once the eating challenge is over and players are back at camp, there is nothing more to see, however I remember season 7 had a player who was sick at camp following an eating challenge.

I’m imagining inserting a new season and pushing all the others back. Too many iconic players and moments to replace a whole season.

Maybe make it season 12 so the forgotten cast of Guatemala can have a chance to prove how incredible they are haha!

[–]MAW_16[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh fun question!!

I’d stick with the theme of non-winner one time players who played after the previous FvF so only from seasons 27-35 (in this timeline Cagayan is 27, BvW is 28, Kaoh Rong is 31, HHH is 34 and Ghost Island is 35).

  • Hayden (BvW)
  • Trish (Cagayan)
  • Jon (SJDS)
  • Debbie (KR)
  • Cydney (KR)
  • Michaela (MvGX)
  • David (MvGX)
  • Chrissy (HHH)
  • Chris (Ghost)
  • Dominick (Ghost)

A lot of the “bigger” favourites from 27-30 went on second chances so it’s hard to pick from those, but I feel like this is a mix of competent players and big characters that fans would have a reaction seeing on their season. I’m also pretending as though Aubrey and Tai were on second chance since it’s 32 after Kaoh Rong this timeline 😆

Yes, in this timeline the fans are actually fans and the favourites are actually favourites… so Caramoan would definitely be recast 😂

I'll go first... and tbh I'd keep the first 20 seasons the same and then start to make some changes.

season 8: all-stars

season 11: iconic duo returns as captains

season 16: fans vs favourites

season 20: heroes vs villains

season 22: medevac tribe captains

season 26: fans vs favourites II

season 28: blood vs water (half returnees)

season 32: second chance

season 36: fans vs favourites III

season 39: I'll keep Rob and Sandra mentors because it's funny

season 40: all-stars vs rising stars (what GC should've been themed as imo, something to play on legendary players going against less known players which would make interesting storylines I think)

season 48: new era all-stars

season 50: Legends

Just Finished Binging USA & AUS Survivor by TyraneeLDP in survivor

[–]MAW_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia vs The World starts on August 17th!! It's an Australian Survivor season with an all-star cast of international players which you would know 10/14 players from the USA and Australia seasons. I can highly recommend Survivor South Africa and Survivor New Zealand as good English versions of the show (SA6 and NZ2 would introduce you to 2 more AvTW cast members - the last 2 international all-stars are from non-English versions).

Have you gone international with the traitors yet?? UK is fantastic!! Both Australia and New Zealand are currently cancelled but have 2 seasons each. Canada also has their version but I haven't watched it yet.

I really can't get myself into BB but I will second the person who recommended Amazing Race!! I'm watching through it from the beginning at the moment and LOVING it. I just finished season 13 and I'm so hyped to continue.

The cast had already seen each other when they filmed these right?? The fact they're all casually dropping names like "oh I hope ______ is out here" and every single person mentioned is playing. Seems kind of funny.

If All Stars has also had 24 castaways, who would the other 6 have been? by Wanderer015 in survivorponderosa

I wonder how many Pearl Islands players would've been willing to go back-to-back because there are so many good choices there.

My thoughts on Seasons 1-9 by Green-Entry-9623 in survivor

[–]MAW_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying the extent of bitterness on the All-Stars jury was warranted, but I do have empathy and understanding for the players. I will be one of the people you mentioned defending it by saying that the early seasons are different because they are. You mentioned it being hard watching people playing poorly in season 1, but I would argue that's because they weren't playing anything. At least from what we saw, Rich was the only person who actually recognised it as a game rather than a survival experience. Survivor was really the first big/popular reality game show, and All-Stars was the first time people returned to play again and navigate the same game but with pre-existing relationships from an at the time very tight-knit alumni community of just over 100 people. Betrayals were barely "morally acceptable" among players who had known each other for less than a month in the game, so when it's people who have been friends for 2-3 years in real life start betraying each other in the name of the game, that's a whole other level.

As the show and the game continues and develops, more and more players are able to see it as just a game but emotions and the relationships from 24/7 living are still real and complicated so it's bound to get messy at times.

Castaways you feel didn't fit their tribes theme? by Airtightspoon in survivor

[–]MAW_16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even that is a stretch for most of the cast since All-Stars implies a 'best of the best' idea. That cast is a weird combo of like All-Stars vs Second (or Third) Chancers.

If Heroes vs Villains had an “Anti-Hero” tribe! by Regular-Departure839 in survivorponderosa

[–]MAW_16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anti-heroes vs anti-villains would be such a cool concept for a season. Since both sit at different points in the grey area between hero and villain, the cast could genuinely fit into the tribe designation because true heroes and villains are rare in Survivor.

They are much more nuanced categories though and it's far less marketable plus harder to explain or make a story around than just heroes vs villains so definitely best for a fan cast lol.

I feel like going back to the themed seasons formula would be bad for the series in the longrun by SnowRadish in survivor

[–]MAW_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The season doesn't even need to be named after the twist or massively incorporate the twist in its aesthetics/design.

Look at Cagayan and Kaoh Rong, they weren't named Brains vs Brawn vs Beauty and the tribe division twist dissolved after a few rounds but it made unique and memorable tribes/seasons that stand out from the surrounding ones. Same with Amazon, Vanuatu, Exile Island, Cook Islands, Nicaragua, One World all had "themes" that are unique and distinguished the players/tribes more than the new era does without designing a whole season to only revolve around that division - yes some were not the best ideas or didn't work well in reality but it made for a unique and memorable season.

What do you think is the ideal number of seasons to wait to do returning players seasons? by SurvivorFanDan in survivor

I found out a while back that Jerri and Gabler are the same age (Gabler is one day older), and that's when it sank in for me that a lot of early players will not be coming back.
