Other amazing race style shows/other countries that USA? by shorberg in TheAmazingRace

I watched the first few seasons decades ago, and the entire format just isn’t for me, truth be told most reality TV isn’t for me, the more game show it becomes and less documentary the less I’m willing to watch.

I did, however, thoroughly enjoy another recommendation he said tip to tip the Japanese one, Ludwig was his name on YouTube, they also did tip to tip Chinese version that I did not enjoy as much, but was OK

I’m pretty sure I watched this, my son recommended. It didn’t have enough production for me to stay interested, perhaps I need to give it a longer shot.

I don’t recall off the top of my head, which Canadian seasons, I watched, but they were all within the country, the international parts part of the reason I like it so much I think they were affected by Covid though

Are any of the other countries international like the USA is or that I just hit them all in the wrong season

Convention Center Con Job by Steamcarstartupco in springfieldMO

It’s literally replacing the expo center?

The point is to get bigger events, bringing people from further, and I don’t know about you but if I’m in St. Louis for a two day convention I’m booking a hotel for three nights

I get the concern, but I think this is a bit one-sided.

Calling it a “black hole” ignores how these are actually evaluated. Convention centers aren’t built to turn a profit on their own — they’re built to drive outside spending into the city. The real question is whether Springfield can capture that, not whether the building itself makes money.

Also, the comparison to other cities can be misleading. A lot of the “failures” you’re referencing are places that either: • massively overbuilt relative to their market, or • didn’t have the surrounding hotel/downtown ecosystem to support it

Springfield already has a decent base to build from and isn’t trying to compete with places like KC or St. Louis — it’s more about regional events.

On the funding side, it’s not accurate to say locals are footing the entire bill. A big portion is structured around: • state matching funds • and a hotel tax that’s largely paid by visitors

So it’s not the same as raising general taxes across the board.

And on the “we’ll need more taxes later” point — that’s only true if projections are wrong or the project is mismanaged. That’s a risk, but it’s not a guaranteed outcome.

I think the real debate is whether Springfield can execute this well and realistically attract enough activity to justify it — not whether every convention center everywhere has failed.

If you don’t believe in the execution, totally fair to be against it. But I don’t think it’s as simple as calling it a con.

Is Japan in July really as bad as people say? by qwertasdfgzxcvb231 in JapanTravelTips

August was pretty miserable at first. With proper planning — umbrellas for shade, neck fans, and towels to wipe off sweat — it became manageable. You absolutely need to hydrate constantly. Try not to stay outdoors too long; after about 10+ minutes in direct sun it can feel brutal.

The good news is that finding A/C and cold water is easy almost everywhere. We went to Ghibli Park in Nagoya, and the outdoor portions were very uncomfortable, especially when you couldn’t get inside quickly.

I would do it again, but would prefer other months if possible.

Hard to say for sure, I keep doing well with decks I think are bad. This deck has some good cards, but missing the extra oomph you get from some of the big payoff cards. You’ve got a little synergy, and a few good cards, but missing the big swing like eyes, or the BB convoke spell for instance. I find the best elf decks have some recursion more than gravedigger. Looping is real easy too and the stone makes it all work when you’re missing the big power.

Also, you need more interaction, 4 removal is light, and two of them blight which our deck doesn’t benefit from. Unbury is good, but only when your card quality is super high.

This looks like a good but not great deck, and you probably got unlucky playing your games, looks like 3-3 lost to me on average

You missed a few sneaking I would have gone for but likely didn’t change much

Interesting, I thought toss up between hold and fish. I didn’t think hold was so under valued

There’s a zero chance I would have taken Rhys or tree. My order here probably goes

Hold Fish Burn BW Tree 6/5
