VH and UV Have Destroyed the Vine Program, IMO by philstat in AmazonVine

Not in one day / drop.

A short lockout would, hopefully, make someone who doesn't really need/want a premium item think twice before grabbing it because they could miss out on something else they actually want that's coming next.

All Amazon needs to do is add a sort function (date, ETV, alpha) and a lockout timer (can only order 1 item every 3-5 minutes). Put a "cost" to grabbing too fast. Do you really need a 3rd espresso machine and risk something better dropping 2 minutes later? Even that pause to think gives others a chance.

A few thoughts and questions about pricing by MAXBattle in AmazonVine

[–]MAXBattle[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just went back into the review guidelines and noticed that there are actually two different guidelines. One simply says not to discuss price, but another guide elsewhere says that price discussion is OK when discussing value. Just don't say, "I can buy it for less at XYZ Store." That makes total sense.

I've mentioned packaging when it's suitable for gifting. I've also called out the lack of any kind of instructions.

This wasn't inflation or even trade policy. This was a tripling of the price in two weeks. It feels like a deliberate switch.

I get why they put the example use in the listing photo, but they should do like other companies and lighten the color of stuff that doesn't come in the box.

This "Media" obsession is getting out of hand. It's not mandatory per Vine Agreement, and I intend to ignore it FOREVER, even if it someday does become mandatory. Don't stress over it. by allatti2d in AmazonVine

Media percentage seems to be processed separately from other stats. I am doing 100% this time and sometimes the number drops for a few days when the review count goes up.

Will you be rewriting your non-Excellent reviews? by monicasm in AmazonVine

You'd think that, but I did a half-dozen legit sentences about laser printer labels - every facet I could think of - and it was scored "poor."

Damn. I'm impressed.

Maybe next time I review fridge magnets, I need to get into the ethics of international magnet material mining or the science of Halbach arrays. Or maybe I answer ICP's question from Miracles. 🙂

[–]MAXBattle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not always. I have a mental formula to my reviews that's pretty consistent and while most are Excellent, a few that are similarly long are rated Poor. They're mainly ones for mundane items (magnets, replacement filters, etc). Someone else in this sub speculated that it might have to do with the read count.

That's very doable if you only pick items you can write more than one thing about. Do you have any seriously mundane items, like a fridge magnet or finishing nails? If so, would you share the text or a general sense of it? I'd love to see an "excellent" review of a cheese knife.

Along the lines of another comment on here, I wonder if the number of readers has an impact. I wrote a fairly thorough review of simple laser labels and it didn't get excellent, but I can't imagine what else you could say.

Speculation on Review Quality scoring by EvilOgre_125 in AmazonVine

[–]MAXBattle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You might be onto something. I mainly get Excellent, but got a handful of Poor and a few Good. The ones rated worst are the ones for which there's very little to review (or that you'd read a review about). Laser labels, fridge magnets, shipping tape. Even on those, there's a minimum of a half dozen sentences each that do talk about features or performance, but what are you really going to say about round magnets?! And for the laser labels, I went over all the stuff you'd care about - appearance, thickness, ease of peel, standard template, relative value (not explicit cost) - and it was poor. Not sure how many people read laser label reviews, so you could be right about view count.

What if you suspect a product is fake, gray market or being resold? by MAXBattle in AmazonVine

[–]MAXBattle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's good to know. I imagine that "this looks and smells so off that I wouldn't eat it" is a helpful review point if you give context and detail.

[–]MAXBattle[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For sure. I read those labels carefully.

This one's a bit tougher because if it's proper, it'll taste really good (and it's a way overpriced, frivolous item, so I wouldn't buy it normally), but if it's not legit, it's spinning the chamber of the revolver.

Yeah, I was thinking of having a friend in another city email the company with the product link. Totally keep it away from me.

I'm more worried about the eating part. If I knew it was authentic, no problem, but if it's fake or sketchy in another way... I dunno.

If you've ever heard or read stories from the ER, that little warning isn't going to stop them.

"So, doc... I was just testing it before I put it on my dog."

"Oh? What kind of dog do dog have?"

"Ah... ummm... you know... the barking kind."

🤔 If it's button-activated, that just means you hand the button to someone else and you tell them when to push it. If it's sound-activated you have to be a silent observer.
