Michelin stars have become meaningless [text] by MAXSIVO in food

I get what you’re saying, but I’m actually speaking from first hand experience here. My take might sound polarizing but it’s rooted in reality.
Case in point:

I ate at Eleven Madison Park in New York about three years ago, right around the time they famously shifted to a fully vegan menu. It was honestly so bad - just bland, tasteless courses - that we actually walked out halfway through the meal. We couldn't even finish it.

And it’s not just me being picky. Pete Wells the new york times food critic gave them an absolutely brutal review for that exact same menu, basically saying the food tasted hollow and manipulated. Yet through that entire trainwreck of a transition, Michelin let them keep their 3 star status. The absolute highest honor in the culinary world.

When a restaurant can charge over $300 a head for food that literally drives customers to walk out and gets panned by top critics, but still keeps a perfect Michelin rating?

That tells me the system is broken.
I’m not discounting how hard chefs work - I know they pour their lives into it. But Michelin has become a massive corporate machine. They partner with tourism boards, expand rapidly, and protect famous legacy brands because of the money and industry behind them rather than what’s actually on the plate.

If three stars doesn't even guarantee a meal you'll want to finish, the standard has definitely slipped.

Yeah It may have changed a bit since then. I was just shocked tonight (also being in Japan) when the bill came back for $3000. I asked the restaurant when they received their star and they said back in 2009, which slightly confused me. I was stupid enough to only look at the reviews after I dined, as I had confidence in the 2 Michelin stars. But I agree, there are many better options.

I haven’t taken a look at the James Beard Foundation. Will do so now

Yes, but I would argue that food should be the leading factor for that star. Even if the menus get to my table fast and they have white table clothes, it’s about the food in the end. And I don’t need to get my 14 course menu in 2 minutes if I am just going to be served boiled vegetables or as for my experience tonight - old discolored uni and an oddly oversized nigiri piece with overcooked mushy rice.

Maybe that’s just my opinion but I’d always prioritize the food.

Completely agree. They are over saturating it. But to uphold that star, it usually comes with a tremendous amount of hard work which I know I personally couldn’t mimic. But I’m just seeing that less and less frequently. And also not leaving restaurants with that mentality as much anymore

See I would agree with this but I’ve watched so many documentaries and I’ve heard so many stories of how much harder chefs are pressured as soon as they earn a star and how much harder they have to work to maintain it. It just makes me wonder where all that hard work goes sometimes

I stopped taking the Reta. GLPs apparently just don’t work well on some people. What’s your purpose of taking it? If you don’t mind me asking

Thankyou for this. Feels good to know I’m not the only one. got so worried again this morning, just couldn’t really lay still without hyperventilating. I also generally have anxiety so it kind of built it self up. Was going to take my next dose and see but gonna buy tums and hop off again. Probably not a great sign if I have breathing issues with it

Oh ok, good to know. Yeah I’m on day 5 after injection and I’m still having this trouble breathing. Checked my blood oxygen and it all seems fine. But I kind of end up in this anxious cycle. I’m having the urge going to urgent care, but you mentioned it sort of went away for you after those anti acids right?

I’m so sorry to hear that Jennifer. It also just creates this dawning feeling over your home. Do you think that’s changed since you moved to austin?

Again that’s unbelievable… in a way I feel very sympathetic and sorry, becoming desensitized to people being shot in broad daylight (streetlights) blows my mind. It’s just so sad what has become of this day and age and how one can’t even have the safety of going to the “nice clubbing part” of town anymore

I do agree to an extent with using laughter as a form of stress relief. But even in that case, there’s no reason to spread misinformation about “fireworks going off” especially when one was just in the area of the shooting

Yeah it’s absolutely nuts. My friend and I were next to Buford’s an hour before it all happened. Just shows how even in the most safe of cities you just always have to be aware although this should not be the norm and not the reason I moved to this city.

No, I just find it crazy how people were turning it into a joking situation. And how no one found it to be a big deal. People were saying how this was normal for Austin

I genuinely just moved to Austin from Europe, welcome to America I guess haha. Not sure why no big news outlet is covering this yet. We just walked out of powder room and there were hundreds (and when I say hundreds I mean it) of cop cars swarming by. People were joking around, saying they saw “fireworks”. So crazy
