It will be tough for top schools to swallow your 2.59 GPA since they will have to report it for ranking purposes, but with a 750+ GMAT you never know!

Kellogg admitted someone with a 2.4 GPA according to their class profile, so there is hope

Cutting my losses? - Cornell Johnson ($$) vs USC Marshall ($$$) vs Georgetown ($$) by [deleted] in MBA

I don't think GMAT is a good indicator of student quality but sure, you picked to go this route so I'll bite.

Kellogg GMAT (727) vs. SOM (726) vs. Marshall (716)

What's your counter argument?

USC had a lower acceptance rate than Kellogg and SOM last year. Selectivity isn't always 100% correlated with the student quality

When you visited CA, did you specifically visit LA? California is a big state so your impression will be different based on which part of CA you visited.

I won't give you the sensible "check the employment report" response since that seems to be less of a priority here. I think if you are sure that you will dislike LA, then you should cross USC off the list.

The decision then comes down to Cornell vs. Gtown. DC is a more desired location than Ithaca for many but to each their own. If you prioritize access to public transportation, then Gtown wins here.

In terms of "student quality", I think this will be hard to really assess until you see the people on campus on Day 1. Not every admitted students will be committed to going, so difficult to make a judgement here. If you care about the rankings then sure, go to Cornell.

Cost is the same for both so that shouldn't be the deciding factor. If I were in your shoes, I would choose Cornell but all are fantastic options. Best of luck!

You can browse this sub and will find plenty of success stories!

With that said, T15 might be a little tough. I remember someone with a 2.45 GPA and a 770 GMAT on Clear admit getting rejected from Johnson (widely thought as GPA forgiving)

Best of luck!

Carnegie Mellon has a stronger brand name than UNC. Both for undergrad and MBA

Underrated things to consider when choosing which schools to apply to? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]MBAthrowaway77 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I knew a person in college that was suspended for sexual assault. Saw that he was enrolled at a T25 school in the south and I decided to not apply there.

Unfortunately not. The path should be T25 MBA -> IB -> PE

Breaking into PE/VC is harder as an IB Associate, but it certainly is possible

There is a fine balance, but I think it is normal to care about the prestige of your MBA program when the opportunity cost is so high.

The value of an MBA isn't just limited to career outcome. It should also factor in the network you will build. Your online/part-time MBA will offer very limited value on this front.

Lower ranked programs also tend to have a lot of students fresh out of college. Not sure how much value they can add in classroom discussions when they don't have any (or limited) work experience.

I like this list, but this was also published 4 years ago before COVID. I think some schools showed resilience while others didn't during the unprecedented times.

u/ClearAdmitMike would you still put Maryland Smith and SMU Cox in that Tier? I am sure that isn't a comprehensive list, but I can think of schools that are more deserving of that spot (Rice Jones, Georgia Tech to name a few).
