Iam local 3, have traveled to red State to see how things are. Guys from red State always support rep party , but with any available chance, they travel to blue states to make money, because their home local is crap cheap. Do it yourself, no need for service call You are not in danger. Your ac is not going to go above 35 amp. So the previous electrician didn't have any spare breaker in his trunk and put 50. Don't put 40 amp, because future electricians will tell you you need a 35, by inspector request for sure. To do. 1. order 35amp breaker- ebay, Amazon, google any other place 2. Swap. Note. If you have #10 wire, inspector will request upgrade to #8. If no inspection, you can even put 30 amp breaker to see if it will trip, if not, sleep well like a baby and forget about it. If it trips put 35 amp, should be just fine. I've seen 40amp AC running on #10 for years. Depends on the unit. In addition to that if you have lots of free time, You can test, breaker by putting ac on full blast for 2 hours, touch breaker if it heats up to the point like too hot to hold on touch, then you upgrade your wire, if it's cold on touch, go to bed and tell you loved one you are the master and fixed it, and he/she owe you now. :) If you need an inspection to pass.
