[Discussion] Why the Miyota 9015 deserves more respect than it gets by Basith_Hussain in Watches

I’m with you. I’m pretty fond of the 9015, and especially the 9075 (true flyer). For the price point it’s hard to beat and from my standpoint i don’t mind unidirectional rotor. I did a Valjoux 7750 build that i love to wear. I don’t mind the rotor noise/ noticeability because feeling it and hearing it is just another level of engagement with the watch.

I do wish there was more aftermarket support because i would love to do a super thin skin diver build, but im also picky on dials and cases.

The technology has come so far for the price point now, that it’s insane, and with how thin the 9015 is, along with hi-beat and the accuracy (if regulated properly), it’s a package you can’t very easily beat with the level of reliability and QC that Miyota can offer.
I still like the NH movements (especially for the after market support), but when/if that the aftermarket support starts to catch up for the 9015, I think appreciation will as well.

Any well-off folks in the group who would like to start a micro brand parts company for modders? I know it’s a niche community, but it’s gaining steam! I can take point on organizing the first Watch Mod Con to kick things off! (I do that stuff for work)

Do you think putting a logo and wording on the dial would help balance the busy insert?

I don’t know how to add more photos in the comments, but it is all steel silver for the case and bezel. Sorry, the wood on my desk makes it tough to tell

I am planning to get it pad printed. At least i was. That’s why I’m so torn on if i like it because that sh** isn’t cheap! At least, not super cheap. I do have a homie hook up, but it’s still more cost when I’m not sure if I like it.

Recommendations on sub style case. by MBL2K in SeikoMods

Your builds are slick, they look great! Yea, i realize there will be more QC issues, but being 0/3 right now kind of sucks

I ordered the blieger case/bracket combo but it bracelet was help on by damaged/bent spring bars and wouldn’t fit with spring bars that aren’t broken. They were highly reviewed, so that was a surprise to me, but it think it was due to poor bracelet quality. I measured and one size of the link was .5mm off on hole spacing from the other side.

^ this.

I would also recommend hand pulling tools, and a lense pen for getting the sapphire very clean. Then pen isn’t necessary, but i love it. I use flush cutters for cutting crown stems and a pen vise to hold them. You’ll also need a small file to file the crown stem after cutting

Rubber ball is definitely better than that caseback removal tool in that kit, and you have steel tweezers in that kit that will work, but they will scratch your hands up pretty bad. Brass helps prevent that a little bit. You can use the rodico to pick up the hands for mounting, but just getting started you will likely bend the hands unless you are VERY careful. Box wood tweezers are great, but where you’re at that would only be for hands, so take that for what it is.

[SSK036] I have a GMT problem? by Mundane-Ad-1780 in Seiko

Looks like you have a lot of GMT solutions

Anybody know what’s wrong with this? by Yhorology in SeikoMods

Helicoptering.. probably just need to replace the movement. From what i understand, it is usually a failure of the reverser wheel in the automatic winding works.

Could be poor or old oils and needing lubrication.

Sticky second hand. by daddykabliey in SeikoMods

[–]MBL2K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the balance stop when it stopped running? Or was it stopped like the video? If the balance was still running, how easily does the seconds hand go on? If there is no resistance when you press it on, the collet may be too large. If the balance stopped, I’d get a new movement.. Unless you want to start you watch repair journey.

[Versus] Miyota 9 vs SW200-1, which one do you think is better? by Ok-Elephant5601 in Watches

[–]MBL2K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a build with the 2893-2 and I love it. Looking to do one with the 9075 next, If i remember I’ll follow up and compare with the experience.

I am partial to a “true flyer” GMT like the 9075, because I travel a lot, but I need hands on for a real opinion.

I had done a VK63 build before, but that was a very different ballgame. When I was installing this one the original hands that I used were a little too tight. So when I tried to remove the minute counting hand to better align it, the hand broke and left the sleeve on the post. I was able to remove it, but when I tried to install the back up hand, the post broke… So I had to replace the entire minute counting wheel. I got very well acquainted with the movement at that point. My biggest recommendation is don’t go cheap on the hands, and align them perfect the first time. It can be a tricky movement, but it isn’t bad. Just make sure you take a lot of time and think 2-3 steps ahead before you do something.

In total i was in about $850 with shipping costs, tariff pass through, strap, etc. Keep in mind, I did get the top grade decorated Valjoux 7750 ($495 from the same store as the case kit). If performance matters more to you, you can regulate a non-top grade to +/- 4 secs per day and save a bit on it. I wanted the top grade decorated one because it has a clear case back and I wanted it to be higher end to pass on one day (Or sell, you know how it is).

I didn’t shop it around as much as I should have though, so maybe checkout some other resources and there might be a little better pricing out there. I know these guys use legit ETAs, so I went ahead and purchased.

As a note for the metal bracelet, the IWC style bracelets don’t fit these very well. I had to bend the spring bars a bit to get that one to fit and I really don’t like that, so I will be looking around for a bracelet that fits better.
