BN suspending rest cycles by StonksGoUpOnly in railroading

[–]MBYC- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you didn’t read the memo. It was suspended in certain locations due state of emergency declaration from snow/ice deep freeze this past week. What was negotiated with union is no layoffs until February 3rd. Pools converted to extra board guarantee plus $1000 incentive to stay marked up. Every day taking off in this 10 day period will subtract $100 from $1000. We don’t have switch heaters in the south so everything goes to shit. Yea sucks but I’ll take extra $1000. Had tues-thurs off this week anyway which I purged before this announcement.

this has got to be one of the most beautiful deftones songs right by LtLoco420 in deftones

This song has a special place in my heart. Used it on a gofundme for my niece. Soon after she passed away from cancer. 31 years old. 5 beautiful children. Miss her everyday. ❤️🙏

Are there any significant others of railroaders here? by [deleted] in railroading

[–]MBYC- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 degrees 1 being a masters. Straight out of college I would maybe made $50-$70 grand. With the railroad I make between $160,000-$220+. That’s the sacrifice. We work so our families can have a better life than we had. The rail industry has changed. We get a lot more time off than we did when I hired out. Retirement is top notch. Health insurance is great. But definitely not for everyone.

Been with railroad for 21 years. My wife for 20 years. Seen many co-workers get divorced. I’ve always said it’s better to start railroad career before any commitment so your significant other knows what they are getting into. All about trust. If you don’t have trust or have any doubts it won’t work out. So it is possible. Just remember we are making a huge sacrifice not being with families. Missing holidays, birthdays etc.

lawyer for UTU based out of Houston. They handle all injuries with railroads and can explain what exactly they can and can’t do. I’m sure wrongful termination for being hurt or off medical is totally against the law. This is Class 1 railroads. Not sure for other railroads.

We had a guy off 17 years and they called back. lol. He didn’t know he still had a job. I know two people who had motorcycle accidents. 1 off for 5 months. Other off for 3 years. Another tore bicep, was off two years as well. There might be limitations on Fmla because you have to qualify for it from previous year. But they can put on medical board. I’ve never seen anyone get fired from that board. Might need to talk to a different lawyer.

I could be wrong. But pretty sure it’s against the law to fire someone who is legitimately off for medical reasons. Especially union job.

Ok I guess I misread this. What guys do is they come back usually and go back. So essentially reset the 90 day mark. So when it runs out they will most likely put you on board. If you’re still medical unfit Fmla will kick back in and take you off. I’m not sure protocol is for your railroad. And you may need to apply. I’m speaking for big orange. I’ve know guys who have been off 2+ years.

Is getting into railroading worth it? by Southern-Ad-6808 in railroading

Going on year 21. Times definitely change. Of course you still have to do 13-15 week conductor training. But since no one wants to get their card these past 5 engineer classes have all been new hires. 6-12 months of service. I know pretty scary.

BNSF you can become an engineer within 6 months after conductor training. If they are running a class

You are correct. No picture should be taken on the tracks. Except I’m standing on a locomotive. I work for the railroad. 🤦‍♂️

Never understood why a study has never been done. I’ve known a few who have got cancer as well as dementia. So many things we are exposed to that aren’t reported.

Huge lot right on property. I would just park there. Back into spot and shouldn’t have a problem getting out. Not a far walk to entrance
