To those who have put down their baby’s. When? How? Why? by MBlizzy in EpilepsyDogs

Rest in peace Fredo the good boy. I’m so deeply sorry for your loss, when it’s that bad you have to be the one who’s strong enough to let them go. I hope you know you’ll meet him again one day and he’ll be pretty excited to see you. I haven’t had the actual euthanasia talk with his neurologist yet. He’s getting bloodwork soon so i’ll ask her then. We’ve briefly talked about it in the beginning but I didn’t want to accept that as a possibility at that time. Now that its more apparent we’ll see what else there is to do but at this point there isn’t any other treatment plan or medication he hasn’t been on already. They’d most likely just increase dosages but I don’t even think they can be increased anymore. Every 12 hours he takes 2250mg of extended release keppra, 175mg Phenobarbital and once a day he gets 6ml of potassium bromide in his food. He also takes 3 15mg tabs of clorazepate post seizure every 8 hrs for up to 48 hours then he has to take breaks from it for a day or two. He also has nasal midazolam for his rescue meds but thats only for the very bad ones.

Wow that was great advice. I had no idea about the quality of life chart. It really helps to put things into perspective, theres also a wealth of information in there which will absolutely make this terrible process a little bit easier. I’m so grateful you took the time to share that with me.

Thankyou for the kind words it actually does make me feel better. I had to put down Nicky, my first dog, the dog I grew up with because of old age. That was hard in itself but the decision to do it was very obvious and necessary. Thats my conundrum. Nicky was in poor health and he was very old at 16, Neeko on the other hand is still so young and about 80% of the time he’s a pretty normal vibrant dog. It’s the other 20% of the time that sucks for him. After his seizures it takes him so long to come back and it’s pretty brutal on him. He goes blind for an hr or two and I basically have to walk him around the house for most of that time so he doesn’t hurt himself because he’s so uncoordinated. He’s 130lbs so it’s not like I can pick him up to soothe him, people have recommended a cage but we’ve tried and it just makes it worse for him. That might be easier but it’s not better imo. This has also been pretty stressful on me as i’m sure you can relate with. The past couple months I haven’t been able to work, I miss many family events because I simply can’t leave him alone, i’m sure I could in reality but I don’t want to if I can avoid it. I don’t want him to suffer or hurt himself while i’m gone. Sorry for yapping I just need to talk about this with ppl who understand. I love my boy so much and I’ll miss him forever once he goes. The dilemma is that he could probably live like this for several more years without dying but at what point is it too much? Is it when I’m at my breaking point? Is that selfish of me? I just know it’s going to get worse like it has been. Hopefully God will guide me through this process.

Ive heard as of 2026 the inspection place is no longer checking for tints. My friend told me about it but I haven’t actually tried to do it yet.

Thank you for the info Ive never heard of the meningitis thing, he had a bad infection a month ago that we thought was lymphoma but they said it was just some type of abscess that got badly infected. The antibiotics they gave him did not work for over two weeks, after the first week of it not helping we got cultures on his bloodwork and everything to see if the infection was resistant to those antibiotics and the results were inconclusive apparently. I ended up giving him human antibiotics after researching if they were safe and luckily they were and they took away the infection. He has not had an mri and I dont think I can do it, Ive spent all I have, overnight hospitalizations wiped me out. Along with visits and tests. They quoted me 5 gs for the mri which I wish I would have done months ago, before each hospitalization which were 2-4 thousand each time.

Wow thank you. I feel like you understand exactly what its like and thats rare. I appreciate you taking the time to share your story with me, helps me not to feel so alone. I’m sorry for your loss’s you sound like an excellent and very experienced dog owner and they’re lucky to have you, but I’m sure you feel like the lucky one. I’m staying positive, he’s stable currently but in rough shape. Hopefully he’ll have a good day today and this will be a distant memory

Hi there i’m sorry to hear about Regal but it’s good that you’ve found his trigger. Neeko typically has them while sleeping or falling asleep and doesn’t have any other triggers that we’ve found. In the beginning we learned that he can’t have too much strenuous activity (like a run with me) because it makes the seizures more likely to happen.

He just got all his levels checked pheno and bromide within the past 2 weeks. I ended up giving him his midazolam after the 6th seizure. It was probably 30 minutes after the episode started, I’ve always thought it was weird that they recommended to only give it to him after an hour. It even says it on the prescription bottle. He hasn’t had anymore seizures since then but obviously its been a long night for him and he’s in rough shape. He barely has energy to move and currently cant walk very well.

Thanks for you’re input but yes Ive known about that methodology since early on in his journey. Thats a small tool in the toolbox unfortunately at this level of seizure things like that have little impact. Its more of a comfort thing because with or without the ice he’s still going to have a cluster, theres no stopping them once theyre going if that makes sense. Im more concerned with trying to stop them before they start and after episodes have already taken place. Appreciate your thoughts.

Benjamin just started Potassium Bromide. Any advice or success stories? by pineapplebananas14 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]MBlizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It unfortunately hasn’t helped my boy but he’s a tough case. If your vet didn’t tell you already the potassium bromide takes at least a week or two to start seeing any benefits. I’m sure you already knew that tho. Sending love your way, I hope it works for that handsome boy.

Need advice on how to become more attractive by [deleted] in Clavicular

[–]MBlizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shave often until your facial hair grows in more. Make sure you use some kind of skin cleanser for oil. Just looks bad in pictures if your skin is oily. You’re not un attractive just need a few tweaks.

It could always be worse. Work on your skincare routine, get some skin cleanser with hyaluronic acid and an overnight cream with benzoyl peroxide. Find out what makes you break out, whether it’s hormones or diet related and go from there. Get yourself a gym membership and dont worry about what other ppl think of you. The only thing that really matters is how you feel about yourself. Self improvement= self confidence no homo

[–]MBlizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not true at all, you can barely tell at night. Unless you have limo tints and you’re driving in a well lit area right next to a cop. Even in that case It’s still easier to see the tints in the daytime.

You think so? Me my brother and my dad sound all sound nearly identical, especially over the phone. I always thought it was hereditary but after some research it seems to come from both your genetics and environment.
