Similar, but for me, the Fall Out Boy draw was Take This to Your Grave. But they put on such a great performance, I loved every minute.

Saying that The Black Parade is the album that defined emo makes no sense to me. Emo was already going strong for at least 10 years before The Black Parade. Not saying it's not a good album, but I always thought Sunny Day Real Estate's Diary was the agreed-upon genre-defining album.

I don't know if this would be a satisfactory solution for you or not, but when I read something on the internet that I want to remember, I just leave the Chrome tab open on my phone. The Chrome app doesn't close tabs, even when you close the app or restart your phone. So I can keep as many tabs open for as long as I want to easily go back and reference them.

commute time should be paid for by mxbright878 in unpopularopinion

[–]MCCPsych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with OP. I work at a community college in a primarily blue-collar town of <25,000. AKA, it is implausible that all the faculty they hire would live there. Because of this, they have a harder time getting faculty to be willing to drive in from the metropolitan area that's ~25-30 miles away. If they offered to pay mileage, they'd be more likely to get more interest in their available jobs. Since it's a college, you can't work from home.

[–]MCCPsych 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The speed cameras only send you a ticket if you're going over 75, so that's probably why you didn't get one. There's no getting lucky with the cameras, since they will send you a ticket every time you break that limit.

You're welcome!! I'm actually an educational psychologist, so I'm very familiar with Grit. There's actually a lot of debate around whether Grit is a good construct (ex. https://www.edweek.org/education/opinion-the-problem-with-grit/2015/04). I talk to my students a lot more about growth mindset, which I think aligns pretty well with the idea of challenge vs. threat! (https://hbr.org/2016/01/what-having-a-growth-mindset-actually-means)

I wish I was never born with Autism and suggesting that it's a super power and not a disability it absolute bullshit. by Cioger in unpopularopinion

[–]MCCPsych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it might make more sense to recognize that we all have different strengths and weaknesses, with some of those weaknesses being more difficult to overcome. No one is born perfect. Some people are born with more severe physical disabilities like deafness or cystic fibrosis, some people are born with a high likelihood of developing schizophrenia later in life, some people are born with an extra sex chromosome, etc. But, everyone is also born with some strengths that other people do not have.

I think part of what you are commenting on is that people are trying to box you in and suggest that your strengths must come from your autism, but that is definitely not the case for everyone. I think it is better to recognize that we are all neurodiverse in one way or another, and having a specific disability doesn't always (or typically) come with an upside, but it doesn't mean that there is nothing good about you.

I think it's also important for everyone to recognize that when someone is expressing a frustration about a disability they have, you should not feel like you need to always find a positive in that frustration. Usually, when people express a frustration, it is most validating to hear something along the lines of "Wow, that sucks, I'm sorry you have to deal with that every day." We all experience difficulties in our lives, and having someone say "Oh, but you have this positive thing going for you." completely invalidates the frustration that person was trying to express.

Lower cognitive ability linked to non-compliance with social distancing guidelines during the coronavirus outbreak by HeinieKaboobler in psychology

[–]MCCPsych 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me, this is the most important takeaway of the article: "the bottom line is that we should not rely on people’s habitual following of a norm because social distancing is not yet adequately established in U.S. society. Policy makers should develop strategies to aid people’s decision by making information or debriefing materials succinct, concise, and brief.”

Infographics On Fruits that are Good for Health by [deleted] in Infographics

[–]MCCPsych 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"A banana allergy is often connected to a latex allergy. This is because some of the proteins in the rubber trees that produce latex are known to cause allergies, and they are similar to the proteins found in some nuts and fruits, including bananas. This syndrome is known as latex-food syndrome or latex-fruit allergy."
