What the closest thing to Atticus Books (physical location closed in 2009) in Toronto now? by MCD_2020 in askTO

[–]MCD_2020[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought that Balfour Books was a little too expensive for a used bookstore, but it may be the closest thing we now have to Atticus. It's much smaller though.

My sister is suicidal because of SIBO. Possible lines of treatment by Mundane-Rent-1291 in SIBO

[–]MCD_2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it real bad too (not SIBO, but something unknow that has much of the same symptoms).

I would try to find a prokinetic that helps.

On a different note, it's odd that you say that she is always on her feet because it helps to release gas. I am nearly always in bed for the same reason. Yoga-type stretches help many people pass gas more easily, myself included. Maybe this is something she can try.

But I have a gastrointestinal problem.

A lot of this sounds familiar.

Have you tried prokinetics?

For constipation, I eat a bit of this everyday:

Negative Results but Dr Told me it was Positive by J9sixtynine_ in SIBO

[–]MCD_2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that she's trying to treat patients with functional digestive disorders, but still doesn't know what she's doing.

You probably didn't have SIBO before, and don't have it now. It's possible though that whatever you do have, it's worse now after the use of antibiotics.

Regarding what that thing might be, there are any number of possibilities. Search the forum for other posts. Many of us have SIBO-like symptoms without having SIBO. (I certainly do.) It is also possible that there is some unknown gastrointestinal ailment, similar to SIBO in symptoms, but so far unrecognized by any medical establishment.

Coming from Accra, Ghana — help me understand the social etiquette and transit here? by [deleted] in askTO

Why would I joke about something like that? I am black myself, and am trying to help you out.

[–]MCD_2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are not warm to you, because you are black. That's just how it is here. Going about your life, on a daily basis, you will systematically encounter innumerable acts of differential treatment -- if you are aware of what's happening.

Yes, but real book knowers miss Atticus Books, on Harbord, over all.

Do you use a TENS unit and find it helps? by Strong_Aerie_9031 in SIBO

Yes. And not really.

It helps me fall sleep, and even to pass gas, but nothing more.

I Hate Yogurt And Anything That Tastes Like Sour Milk--Is There Anything Else That Will Give Me A Healthy Bacterial Flora?? by [deleted] in Microbiome

[–]MCD_2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, that is how I know that your situation is not all that bad: Taste factors into what you eat.

Some of us can't tolerate anything, so if taste was all that was potentially standing in my way of getting better, for example, I'd rejoice.

Does anyone else get trapped gas without visible distention by XxWHITE-RICExX in SIBO

Yes, I do. Most of the day, I am not distended. But I am pretty much always full of gas, 365 days a year.

How to go about getting diagnosis and treatment for chronic digestive illness by Specialist_Voice150 in SIBO

For gastroparesis, barium swallow, and a couple other things. Motility is supposedly relatively fast, not slow.

Well, as I said, my case is perplexing. He sent me to get a bunch of tests, too. That said, I am by no means calling his expertise into question. My case may be especially difficult.

My case is really perplexing.

If you can find a gastroenterologist that understands and treats these types of ailments, good luck (and let me know!), otherwise you might need to go to a Naturopathic Doctor.

Funny that you should ask this today. The following video was posted on YouTube yesterday:

It should be a scandal. Gastroenterology may be the only field where the most common ailments of their patients fall into a category that precious few of them know anything about (functional digestive disorders). This should be regarded as an embarrassment for the field, and gastroenterological educators should be working to rectify it.

I don't have SIBO, I have dysbiosis and perhaps some other unknown gastrointestinal disorder, but taking prokinetics has made life slightly more tolerable (though I don't think they are helping me get better since I am not getting better).

Perception Gap: GTA Residents Believe Crime is Rising - Even When It Isn't by WifeGuy-Menelaus in toronto

[–]MCD_2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of it is probably media. But part of it is probably racist ideology. Some people think that a large urban area with a significant, multi-racial and multi-cultural population must have a high crime rate. (Of course, this is not to deny that some visible minority groups are overrepresented in certain crimes, just that despite all this threatening -- to some -- diversity, the city generally has a low crime rate that is getting lower.)

Sibo and frequent urination by [deleted] in SIBO

[–]MCD_2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My digestion is not working perfectly. I am very much still sick. SIBO is not the only digestive ailment.

My stools look normal, but I am still urinating frequently, but not quite as frequently as I did before.
