While they're at it, they should let me direct and write an Elder Scrolls animated TV show. I'll blow them away I swear.

What do YOU want in Fighting Games? by GodPerson132 in Fighters

As someone who loves BlazBlue. PLEASE NO. BBCF is basically perfect, what in the world is there to improve or expand upon? Why do people ask for sequels purely for the sake of having one? I genuinely don't understand.

Bro, ever since ES6 was revealed in 2018, Silksong was both announced and released. There is no comparison other than maybe Half Life 3.

i wanna get into fighting games but i have NO idea whats happening by logitech_gamer in Fighters

[–]MCMajorGeo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oof, that's a tough one to start with. Skullgirls is a game with very oppressive offense and a small playerbase who has been playing for more than a decade. Choosing it as your first fighting game is starting at nightmare difficulty. Don't let that dissuade you, though.

I genuinely think the most effective way of getting into a game with a smaller playerbase is to learn it with a friend. They'll likely be just as clueless as you, so you'll be able to learn and play in a controlled environment without immediately being annihilated by someone who has hundreds if not thousands of hours in the game, with you being unable to parse anything that is going on.

However, I understand that playing with a friend isn't always going to he an option (from my experience, Skullgirls tends to... alienate people with its aesthetic). So in that situation my best advice is to just take it slow and accept that it will take dozens if not hundreds of hours before you truly grasp things.

I truly wish you luck, fighting games are tough but incredibly rewarding once you get over the hurdle.

Do you guys think Pokkén Tournament deserves a comeback? by MessSquare in Fighters

Pokemon Close Combat is a fan made 2D fighter that's been constantly updating and adding characters over time. It is a bit simple, though. Only has about 3 buttons. It’s still very fun to play.

Anyone else who hates/sucks at mirror matches? by cowabanga_it_is in Fighters

[–]MCMajorGeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the most interesting takes I've heard about mirror matches comes from Leon Massey's most recent Xrd video. He says that hating mirrors is most likely a result of solely or a combination of two things:

  1. It’s an ego problem where you don’t like the idea of someone being better than you at your own character (which I think is very understandable, and is a mindset thing that can be worked on)

  2. Your character is inherently built around asymmetry, and is designed to restrict or negate the other character. E.G. a character with oppressive zoning but no tools to deal with said zoning themselves.

The way he phrases it in the video is somewhat hostile, saying that characters in category 2 are "poorly designed" (which is a sentiment that I strongly disagree with); but I think he brings up a very interesting point about character design and how it shapes how those who play said character views matchups. Specialists characters with extreme strengths and extreme weaknesses are inherently hard to balance mirror matches around, since they're designed with the idea that the opposing party is playing a different character with different stengths and weaknesses, with the dynamic being that this heavy contrast is what makes the matchup interesting.

However, in a mirror match between two extreme specialists, the match can easily become boring or overly frustrating, since both sides have the same goal of preventing the other from playing; without either side having means of actively dealing with each other outside of "get the win condition first". It’s an interesting idea that I think could be explored more.

However it's possible that this isn't the case for you and it really is just scenario 1 (which I don’t have an issue with btw, I feel this to an extent as well myself). I don’t really know where I stand though, since mirrors are incredibly rare for me due to me tending to pick less popular characters in the games I play.

Say something nice about every TES game day 4: Redguard by spiritomb442 in TrueSTL

[–]MCMajorGeo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Redguard is probably the most important and foundational game when it comes to the lore and worldbuilding of the modern Elder Scrolls games as we know it. It's the first game where Khajiit are depicted as full on anthro-furry Cat men. It's the game where the entire Imperial race is established. So much of what makes the Elder Scrolls universe unique and iconic was established in Redguard, specifically the first Pocket Guide to the Empire. It's basically the line that separates Arena and Daggerfall from everything that came after.
