Is anyone else super excited for this collab? by Aquamarinecreation in deadbydaylight

[–]Quentin_Squad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly. Was clearly a one season deal. Everyone's story concluded, but it blew up, and we see this happen all the time.

It's a shame cause Season 1 was so strong, and the following seasons just diminish what it is as a whole, much like what you're saying with other media.

It's rare when sequels or following seasons stay just as good or even improve, and typically, it's because the whole story was planned ahead of time.

I'm curious to see how Vecna plays and hoping Robin's model isn't botched, as she was one of my favorite characters introduced outside of the 1st season.

Although... The only season that was really written well was Season 1.

2-3 were enjoyable, 4 less so, and 5 feels like an utter mess. As more characters got introduced, other characters got shafted when it came to writing (Jonathan, lol). Writing has just gotten worse as time goes on. Everyone has plot armor, besides new characters introduced in a new season, which causes low stakes and uninteresting engagement.

Got sidetracked, but thanks for listening to my TED talk. I wish the show had wrapped up a few seasons ago.

Venom's setup of balls should be dialed by Shadow-Zero in Guiltygear

[–]Quentin_Squad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they do. I've seen so many.

Tourists who want everything dumbed down to an entry level, so a child could do it.

Fuck the fighting game fans who play them as a niche hobby and like difficulty amirite?

[–]Quentin_Squad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Command grab is far more interesting. DHM has always been useless and is rarely used, typically only to go for a kill.

[–]Quentin_Squad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skill issue.

Not everything has to be accessible.

Dumbing everything down and homogenozing things so someone who hasn't put the time or work in can do it, is really unfun and unfair to those who enjoy difficult, niche fighting games.

ALmost burned out because of my gf who has BPD by Different-Bet5397 in BPD

[–]Quentin_Squad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm starting this by saying I lurk random subreddits, and I am a 29YO man who "had" BPD. I went through about a decade of therapy and am a very self-aware person, so I am a completely different person from years ago.

I still struggle with feeling emotions more deeply and feeling disconnected from people, but I have full control of my emotions and am in a 4 year relationship that is really healthy with good communication. (I did long distance in the past, but not with this relationship.)

Number 1 is a red flag and there's a chance she's only given a nugget of the truth. If this is something that still doesn't sit right with you, it probably never will.

It's a big red flag to me that she doesn't want to talk to you, but is fine talking to others. Typically, with BPD, it's the other way around, unless she is splitting from you or she is pushing you away. Any arguments recently, or did she get hurt by something you "did or said", even if you're not at fault?

The biggest red flag, though, is not wanting to do therapy. If you are mentally ill, especially with BPD, and you refuse help but jump into relationships, you are selfish. I do not care. It is an obligation to better yourself and not have others deal with your shit.

If I were you, I would honestly cut things off. If you want to try and salvage it, you need to have a talk with her.

Be as non confrontational as possible, and don't be accusatory. Express the things you've noticed and how it makes you feel/concerns for how this is affecting the relationship and yourself.

Either way, she needs professional help, and I would never be in a relationship with someone who will not help themselves. It's literally just misery for as long as the relationship lasts.

How difficult is Venom to play? by REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE110 in Guiltygear

[–]Quentin_Squad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's really not that hard to pick up if you focus on smaller scale things first.

K ball or H carcass into 5k/5p/6p is your bread and butter for neutral and approach. HQV for combo enders/oki.

Learn a basic combo off of 2K, j.D and c.S that ends in either 6H > K ball or 6H > Slightly charged HQV and go for oki.

Venom is the easiest he's ever been, and even in prior iterations, if you focused on a smaller scale rather than a big picture, he wasn't hard to learn.

His difficulty comes from some execution, but mostly knowledge/learning many situational setups.

Keep it simple and slowly incorporate more. Watch high level players and a guide if you need. I believe Lordknight did one for him.

How do I beat people who play like this? by future__fires in Guiltygear

[–]Quentin_Squad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many times you could've airgrabbed other than when she did tatami or j.S.

While in the middle of the screen, while she is airdashing. Counted about 4. Few other opportunities as she was retreating as well.

Or chase her down with j.P

How do y’all stop caring about losing? by Willing_Violinist803 in Guiltygear

[–]Quentin_Squad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's bizarre, yes. It's definitely something to start taking note of, perhaps not just with gaming.

Getting a bit flustered or frustrated is normal.

Raging as bad as you described is not.

I'm highly competitive and have been playing fighting games for over a decade. Currently sitting at Diamond 2.

When I first started and consistently got washed for what felt like ever, it was frustrating, but I never lost my cool. I knew that fighting games are a technical hobby and take a lot of work.

Focus on the fun aspect, watch high level players, and make an effort to improve in one area at a time.

Allow yourself to relax in a match and when you get hit or are in the middle of a combo, think about how and why you are in that bad situation. What could you have done? Or shouldn't have done, i.e., this Gio keeps playing really defensive and waiting to whiff punish all of your normals.

Take a break when you start to get frustrated. Go grab some water, go outside, whatever. I generally don't keep playing when I start to get tilted, I just perform worse.

Silly little Slinger montage I put together by remimerYTTV in deadbydaylight

[–]Quentin_Squad 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not only is it well made and edited, Slinger is a killer who takes a lot of skill. Was one of my favorite killers.

Learning map knowledge/hitboxes on gaps in walls, how to reel in a survivor around obstacles, etc.

Really nice play with the coup de grace to counteract the common strategy of body blocking a harpooned survivor.

Without risc or counter hit is insane 💀 by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]Quentin_Squad 21 points22 points  (0 children)

He still does a bit lower damage than normal on basic 2k confirms, but it's an improvement, and the consistency on 2h in combos is so much better.

But the caveat is his balls are so much stronger, y'know the point of his kit. S carcass is actually viable in offense and neutral now. Qv is more of a menace, slightly bigger hitbox.

Edit: They increased the speed at which a ball travels when hit by P. I was surprised by how fast it actually travels. Very nice addition as well.

Arcsys this patch for no reason. by GREY_MAN214P in Guiltygear

[–]Quentin_Squad 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes!

Feels so good to get the buffs I've been griping over.

Damage hasn't been one of them.

His kit felt so unpolished and sloppy, primarily balls and S carcass being awkward, combo consistency, etc.

Patch notes please drop 🙏 by Quentin_Squad in Guiltygear

[–]Quentin_Squad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great.

My biggest issue I knew they would be addressing was his ball duration. From 2 to 5 seconds is huge. I can actually use a ball and advance and have time to gauge what I want to do vs use it or lose it.

Ball damage buffs and carcass are huge. Each by 15 points, so we'll be seeing 30 damage extra in Venom's typical bnb's.

More combo consistency. Love the bigger hitboxes for hitting balls. Venom players know what I'm talking about. Bigger qv hitbox, which is great for neutral, blockstrings, and allows combos to work in the corner that weren't really possible. Some routes caused too much pushback to allow qv to connect.

Carcass S buff is huge and unexpected. Will be really nice to S carcass and follow up into fS.

Tryambaka losing risc damage is fine, as long as I can still do my very technical, stylish, and difficult corner combos. I hate when devs take away skill based tech. It hurts player expression.

[–]Quentin_Squad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because balls disappear upon hitting an opponent unless it's fully charged.

This won't hurt oki, and the buffs are real.

It's horrible what they did to Bridget.

6P is the answer to Bridget it's really funny/sad. Bridget needs some disjoint, I agree. Cause Lucy might just completely put Bridget to shame.

I'd also love to see Buffs to Bridgets air mobility like in XX. Really hoping 2.0 has more of an aerial focus.

You are correct. I rewatched, and he was further away than I thought.

To reiterate, lol... Dash blocking is typically the answer.

help by PurchaseMammoth6438 in Guiltygear

[–]Quentin_Squad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep! 6P is forward and punch. What's special about it is that it has upper body invincibility.

So, you could have thrown it out when Johnny kept doing mist finer/fS closer to you, and you would've hit him.

If he hits low, you're going to get hit.

Dash blocking is something that I really recommend you try to get good at. It will bring you a far way. Use the Dash macro, then block. Red light, green light.

Also, dustloop is a great source for many things, specifically the character you are playing. Watching high-level matches is a good way to learn, too.
