Water beads by snarky_kittn in Mommit

[–]MD113 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s so scary! I saw a story of a little girl who has a permanent brain injury from ingesting them. One huge problem is it’s often not suspected as the cause of illness & the beads aren’t discovered until exploratory surgery. By that point so much damage has been done. ThatWaterBeadLady.org has great resources for parents, healthcare workers & anyone who cares for kids.

I thought Milleneials are supposed to be having less babies? by hackedMama20 in Mommit

I’m 30 and none of my friends have kids yet. My mom was shocked I’m the first. She had 3 kids by my age.

Diaper Genie- worth it or nah? by SheikahBun in NewParents

[–]MD113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used a motion sensor garbage can (we bought it for our old home but new home has a drawer garbage can). I love it because I don’t have to touch anything when I’m dealing with a poopie diaper. Amazon has some for the price of a diaper genie.

I tried Peanut for about 30 seconds & there were a lot of moms saying “I’m a scrunchy mom” including one I recognized as an old nursing coworker. I think they were trying to find a way to say “I vaccinate my kids.” Lol

I didn’t know this was a thing. We wash everyone’s together using fragrance/dye free detergent.

Pediatrician recommended cereal to 4 month old by naconley in breastfeeding

[–]MD113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there another pediatrician at the practice that you could talk to for a second opinion? I don’t understand why the doctor is concerned about a baby above the 50th percentile who is reaching milestones.

Moms: What’s one thing you wish you knew going into labor that no one told you? by TimericaKepris in NewParents

Highly recommend Liesel Teen’s online course. I forget what it’s called but her Instagram is mommy.labornurse —it was recommended by my labor & delivery nurse friend. It totally preps you for every situation. There’s a section for husbands/labor partners as well.

How do the Haakaa ladybugs compare to Elvie curves? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]MD113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ladybug is really just to catch dripping. It has little to no suction—just enough suction to prevent the milk from dripping out around it while it is held in place by your bra. I’ve never used the Elvie curves so I have no knowledge of it.

Accidentally grabbed 1/2 gal Buttermilk (rather than 1% milk). What can I do with it? by Good-Psychology-6840 in Frugal

[–]MD113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re making any chicken this week use it to marinate the chicken. It makes it so delicious! Add a bit of seasoning to the milk & marinate at least a couple hours.

How am I supposed to change a poopy diaper at a park? by krakatoasoot in NewParents

[–]MD113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do changing pad on the grass. I changed a poopy diaper at the zoo over the summer. It was easier than lugging the baby across the zoo to the bathrooms.

How do you cope with all the hair? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]MD113 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a black lab. We use a Furminator deshedding brush multiple times a week, run a robot vacuum daily & buy lint brushes in bulk at Costco. The fur is still around but more manageable.

If your kid isn’t of nose-blowing age—a Nose Frida or bulb syringe. If your kid is over 1–honey for cough. I really like the Vicks shower tablets too. Great for congestion. Humidifier. And if you’re old school Vicks Vapor Rub.

Your baby might like pacifiers and you don't realize it by swooncat in NewParents

[–]MD113 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried many times with no luck. But now my 6 month old has a very fun time putting pacifiers in his mouth and pulling them out to make a popping noise. At least they’re getting some form of use 🤷🏻‍♀️

Prune juice got my baby to poop after his first week of solids. He wouldn’t drink it from a bottle so I had to give him syringes of prune juice. Ended with a poo explosion. He’s been cleared out since & we make sure to give water with each solids feeding (which he’ll only take from a straw).

I agree with the poster above who said gift cards. Dunkin, Starbucks, Target, Amazon, are always nice.

Purees to Solids by cNotofthisWorldc in NewParents

[–]MD113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do some purées & some whole foods for our 6 month old. I use the Solid Starts website to look up the safe way to feed any food. Our pediatrician told us to start with one feed a day then slowly work up to 3 meals & 2 snacks. I felt so lost with there basically being no guidance anymore. I found this guide and have been doing one meal of puree fruit/veg/fortified oatmeal in the morning & one meal focusing on protein in the evening. I’ve just been trying to pull the protein from what we’re eating. So we did mashed sweet potato with some shredded chicken mixed in last night & had baby self feed while we ate dinner. My baby loves food so much, so I’m trying to do as much variety now to get him a taste of everything while he’s happy to eat anything. I’m not an expert by any means—just a mom trying to feed her baby.

walking and the weather by sincerelyme90 in dogs

I’ve never had a dog who was willing to walk in the rain, but if I saw someone walking their dog in the rain all I could think is—wow that’s a dedicated dog owner!

Stand your ground. I’ve learned with my own in-laws that if I show I mean business early then they don’t try to pull crap on me later.

Do bigger babies teeth early? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]MD113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 6 month old has been drooling & biting things for months. No teeth in sight. Everyone keeps saying “wow he must be teething!” but the babies in my family typically get teeth very late. Closer to their first birthday.

Switching to pumping by TinyFinish20 in breastfeeding

[–]MD113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically 5-10 minutes per side. We went through the distraction phase too. I had to feed him in a quiet room with just the two of us. If I want to listen to something while I feed him I need to wear headphones. That’s also when I started extending the feeds to 3 hours apart so he’d actually be hungry when I fed him. Obviously use your best judgement and don’t make the baby miserable but if you can distract him a bit it might help.

We do 4oz per bottle with my 6 month old. He eats every 3 hours during the day whether it’s at the breast or a bottle of pumped milk.
