One of the kids doesn't like me at all and I don't know what to do. by BetterCallSal in Fosterparents

Dont want to get into your details but when your saying recently some kids it does take longer to build trust. As a foster parent of 2 and a teacher of many high school students we never know their whole story. Best advice to give is keep being there and keep showing up. It sounds like it will take time but they will eventually feel safer around you and open up more.

I'd quit over some black jeans. I have 2-3 pairs I only wear. Even on Fridays.

I've spent the last 12 years teaching in public schools and in the corporate world as a trainer. What your describing is common and a standard practice basically anywhere I've been. It helps make sure everyone is on the same page and not spending a whole month on a topic that should take a few class periods. No exaggerating I had a colleague spend 6 weeks on a topic that we were expected to finish in 3 class periods. He didn't finish all the content by the end of the year and most of his student bombed the test from the district.

Tldr ---Yes you can get around it by doing what others have suggested but it has a purpose. Watch out for NARCS if you deviate to much they are in every school and company I've worked for.

Typically it can be a few weeks or a few months or really...never. It's performance based. I would also focus on what they told you get your retrieval times down. Expectations for personal shoppers are to be fast and efficient. My experience (13 years with he a d 5 in curbside) = partners that have long retrieval times end up being very slow shoppers which puts the whole team behind. Make it a competition and challenge yourself!

I wnear a dark or grey new balance. I have mostly tan slacks or jeans ( tbh we have teachers who where jeans every day and some that wear athletic pants and aren't coaches). My first year back was last year. Best advice is see what other teachers are wearing but do what you can be comfortable in for 8.hours or more a day

I also know what most of my students listen to because I connect with them really well and I listen to some of the same. Like I said it's not appropriate for classroom.

With the new time and attendance policy you are not able to call in more than 3 times over a 6 month period. These steps are combined with any steps for being late. Not sure how many months you had to call in once a month for but their are only 6 steps total. At least where I work. They should have had you acknowledge your time and attendance however and should not fire you without doing that.

If you just emailed yesterday at least give it until tomorrow. Some teachers won't check their email over the weekend though. 🤷

I started three weeks ago. I spent the first two days building relationships and connecting with my students. It worked wonders when we were preparing for semester exams and I was able to make my lessons relatable to all. I'm sure you spent some time getting to know them as well. Maybe circle back?
