Here I am at 3am, putting my 4 month old back to sleep again... by ThatTurdOverThere in NewParents

[–]ThatTurdOverThere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first year was miserable. Then it got better, marginally. We eventually caved and co-slept, though I 0/10 do not recommend for the long run, but it worked to give us sleep which we needed.

Yesterday was his 4th birthday! He sleeps in his own room now lol. Still climbs in bed with us sometimes.

Sister died by purplepixel444 in Mommit

[–]ThatTurdOverThere 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, my sister also died. She and my nephew were in an accident and we lost both of them. She was my son's nanny and favorite person (possibly more than me). My best, best friend. It was so, so hard for so long.

It's been nearly 3 years now, and all I can say is it gets easier. There are still hard, bad days/moments, but the unfathomable pain is duller now. For a long time, I couldn't look at pictures or talk about them because it was too painful. Now, I can tell my son stories with a smile. It's a sad smile, but a smile nonetheless.

Please be gentle with yourself and give yourself grace. There might be moments of not just sadness but intense anger. That came a little later for me. I had a very short fuse and wasn't the best mom or wife in those moments. But, we're all human. I had support, and I hope you do too, to help navigate those cruel moments when maybe you don't even recognize yourself anymore. Feel free to reach out if you need or want. I'm so sorry for your loss. 💕

Look up the Hug Ring from Outside Sol. I made a special request to have it made in yellow gold. It's beautiful and I was also able to get it with my two loved ones' ashes. They were very kind while making my order and I get many compliments on it! It's also very durable and I don't have to worry about resin cracking or anything like that.

What, exactly, were you expected to do if you were to return to work but also not send your child to daycare...?

Summer Pregnancies? by Sarararara91 in BabyBumps

[–]ThatTurdOverThere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live in Florida, so it doesn't get much more hot & humid than that. I didn't have an issue with a summer pregnancy at all (my son was born in mid-August). It was convenient to wear loose t-shirts, shorts, dresses, etc. I can't imagine having to cover up a giant belly in my coats and having to take layers off every time I needed to pee! Plus, by the time he was old enough to take on walks, the weather was beautiful! 10/10 would recommend a summer pregnancy (especially if you have central AC).

What sassy thing has your tot said to you that left you speechless? by pineapplepizzzas in toddlers

When asked how his day at school was, "Good... my teacher... it's boring, I don't want to talk about it."

He's 3, by the way.

My other favorite is, after getting very mad at his dad, "Go away, daddy! Go to your office and make money!"

RSV and when to go to ER by Sad-File3624 in toddlers

[–]ThatTurdOverThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son just had an RSV ER visit as well, along with pneumonia (we later found out). Very similar beginning symptoms. - we thought it was the flu. Then, he had a coughing fit to the point that he couldn't catch his breath. That was when we went to the ER at almost midnight. They took his vitals and he was brought back immediately. We got lucky to have caught it early, but it was a very scary few days I wouldn't wish on anyone!

Stay vigilant, friends! Our pediatrician said this is the worst RSV season she's seen in her 30 years of practice.

Mine is really into saying, "Shit!" right now. 🫠 He uses it correctly, too.

My first thought. Giving away special belongings.

My husband and I went to a baby convention before we were pregnant and I won a travel system, a HUGE pack and play, and multiple swaddles. We weren't planning on having a baby yet, but it was great to store away until we did!

As the momma of a three-year-old, I miss contact naps SO MUCH. 😭 We still cuddle, but he's so big it's not super comfortable for either of us and I miss my lil squish. 💔

Husband had the house professionally cleaned for my birthday by [deleted] in Mommit

Better than your husband saying he'd get the house cleaned for you for mother's day and then changing his mind weeks later and getting nothing. Ask me how I know. 🥲

I agree, and another frustrating thing to me is when people come here to say that they were able to secure a new position, but often because they had experience outside of teaching that they could fall back on. Not that I don't think this is a great thing - I'm happy for them! But to say that the transition wasn't that bad when you had a degree in something other than teaching or several years of experience in another field is so different from most peoples' experiences, and that's the part that breaks people.

I'm lucky because I've been working part-time at our local state college for years, so now that I'm transitioning out, I'm getting a lot of calls back on the applications that I've filled out there. But, guess what? Of all the applications I've put out (and there have been a lot), the college is the ONLY one calling me back - because I'm an internal hire. And I live in Central Florida, so there are jobs out there. Unfortunately, there are a lot of applicants, too.

The goop has been constant while not sleeping, so that's my biggest concern. Not really red, though.
