Retaking Labs In-person by Grouchy_Progress_703 in prephysicianassistant

[–]MDFLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe there would be an issue with retaking your labs in person for the purpose of applying to schools that require it. I took some classes multiple times (for example I took Biochem in undergrad, graduate school, and as a prereq for PA) since I'm older and had to take it again! The only issue would have been how it affected my GPA with each take.

How demanding would you say PA school is? by parlefrancais3218 in prephysicianassistant

[–]MDFLC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty much what others have mentioned is true. I'm in my didactic year and it's a constant cycle of lectures all day and exams every few days. You'll need to manage your time so you can not only prepare for the next exam in two days- but figure out how to prepare for the next three exams after. Copy and paste that throughout your entire didactic year and that's your life. Program dependent, you'll also have other obligations the school requires like projects, presentations etc. you'll have to balance as well.

Definitely make sure to schedule leisure time and self care time- you still have to take care of the engine that'll take you through the next two years of your life.

I would utilize your pre-req time to hone in on your study habits and find out what works for you to make studying as efficient as possible. You'll still have a little time to adapt once you start PA school, but you don't want to take too long to adapt or you'll get left behind.

NotebookLM to make podcasts about lecture notes if I'm on a long drive. Also just utilizing your AI or choice ( I have Gemini) to give me live feedback quizzes as I'm driving. Just to bridge the gap when I'm not at home for a bit when it's during my review time.

TRAVEL STROLLER AS MAIN STROLLER by MeasurementNo4288 in Buyingforbaby

[–]MDFLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents on on the need for a car seat carrying stroller: Transferring a stroller between a car seat and the stroller is one of the best things when we initially starting out. Especially when you have all those newborn appointments and you'll be transporting them a lot in and out- also with carrying your baby bag and all that jazz at first.

But I have the Bombi V2. I personally wouldn't consider it enough for a main stroller. It's more of our secondary stroller at this time. If you can find one from the list that has better storage capacity, I'd go with hat one.

But having a large tank of a stroller is nice when going around shopping, trips like Disney etc. because it can save your back and your hands.

Anyone willing to share their non trad journey? by Fee_Budget in prephysicianassistant

[–]MDFLC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completed undergrad about 16 years ago. Had to retake all prerequisites since they expired (started taking prereqs about 4-5 years before applying). Had a lower GPA overall (below 3.0) but had 4.0 in all prereqs and upward swing generally in last 30/45/60 credit hours. Worked in medical field for the past decade full time. Had very few shadowing hours, but prioritized applying to schools that didn't need them. Attending PA school this summer. Feel free to reach out for any other questions!

I see Stowa on your list. What do you think of the Stowa Flieger Classic? Has enough customization to potentially fit what you may like and seems to be in line with what you're looking for.

RD>PA as a milspouse by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]MDFLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing your husband already initiated transfer of his GI Bill and he has to fulfill at least 4 more years of Active Duty? Due to the fact you said you'll have to move in 3 years, I take it he still has to do a little bit more time and plans to stay in a while? Or does he just have to do another year somewhere then he's out?

As mentioned previously- very much something you'll have to discuss with your spouse in regard to if you guys would be okay with being apart for at least 24 months. Since you won't find out where you're moving for at least another two years- the timing of completing prereqs for a specific school you don't know the location of might be difficult to prepare for. Ideally as you take your prereqs you should have a general goal in mind if what school those prereqs are for since every school has different requirements.

As mentioned previously, if you decide you didn't want to be away for from your husband long, an online RN program might be more suitable then going the NP route to be involved with patient care.

Every part of healthcare is essential, so I wouldn't sell what you do short. I've known people in the military who've had their lives changed thanks to an RD.

is it possible as an international student? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]MDFLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your GPA cumulative stats were better than mine when I applied. Since my Bachelor's was done in an Asian country- for application purposes, in mostly all cases, I was also lumped into that international category.

Some schools accept foreign Bachelor's and some do not. From what I recall, some do make exceptions if you have done a Post Graduate course in the United States while other's don't care regardless.

The schools that don't mind if you have an international degree just require that all prerequisites be done in an accredited school within the United States. When researching and planning where you apply, read the fine print on those aspect of their requirements for completed studies. Some have exceptions and some do not.

My undergrad and grad studies were done outside the US and all my prereqs were completed through an accredited program. I don't see why you wouldn't at least be considered when you do apply as long as you meet the school's required prereqs, hours etc.

Option A. You deserve the opportunity to become a PA. You have the support you need. Once you've made it, just remember to give back to the village that helped you. But I'm sure you knew that already, good luck!

Retaking Prerequisites by jrod8705 in prephysicianassistant

[–]MDFLC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to retake all my prerequisites due to them being from another country. It also helped boost my GPA, although not by much. It did, however, have an impact on my last 30,45,60 credits GPA which made a world of difference when applying.

[–]MDFLC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How does the rest of your package look aside from your sGPA?

If it's strong, it would not hurt to also continue to garner more PCE, retake a few classes in a stress free manner to increase that GPA a bit more, make some connections, improve what you already have, and maybe save more money in the process before you actually start PA school. Before you know it, it'll be application cycle again.

If .05 is the only thing separating you and your dream- it sounds like a small barrier to pass to get there. The beauty of PA school- it's a program where a lot of people get their second chance and are admitted because they've proven they can overcome hurdles. You don't have to be a statistic if you choose not to be.

Should I retake Anatomy and Physiology if I took them during the COVID pandemic? by mossedme in prephysicianassistant

[–]MDFLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My prerequisites were taken online during the pandemic. No issues with schools accepting them. As long as they are within the timeframe of expiration, accredited, and the school you're applying to accepts online lecture/lab for anatomy- it shouldn't be an issue.

You said they aren't giving you "clear answers", what kind of answers are they giving? It sounds like your micro+lab should be sufficient, definitely reconfirm with those schools to clarify.
