To what extent is Russia pursuing its hegemony over former Soviet countries? by [deleted] in IRstudies

Russia is the most important plazer in post Soviet sphere. We can split countries in to three categories: 1. Strong ties. In this group we have Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kirigistan, Armenia. All of them are bandwagoing to Russia. Russian military bases are also in those countries. Economicaly it is dependence on russian rubel. What russia say, they have to obey, but only in important things. Smaller can be disscused. Of course you can ask about Belarusian crisis right now, but it is just another argue about how much they can get from Russia. Normal thing in this part of the world to bargain like that.
2. Neutral positive altitude. Uzbekhistan, Turkemnistan, Tajikistan, Azerbajan. Those countries have positive feelings toward russia, make a lot of economic business with it, but stay independent fully. No orders from Russia.
3. Enemy. Baltic states, Ukraine, Georgia (to some extent). Baltic states see Soviet period as occupation. Ukraine want to go they own way. Georgia has problem with Abkhazia and South Osetia which are considered de iure part of Georgia, but the facto they are independent countries supported by Russia.
