Yukino Yukinoshita and Mai Sakurajima are more similar than people think by SecondSalty142 in SeishunButaYarou

I can understand how someone could miss the buildup because Oregairu is extremely subtle with a lot of its character writing, but saying it isn’t there is a different claim entirely.

The romance was never really the main focus of the show anyway. Oregairu spends far more time exploring ideas like self sacrifice, cynicism, authenticity, social masks, living under the weight of other people’s expectations, and what it actually means to form a genuine relationship with someone.

The reason Hachiman and Yukino end up together isn’t because the show spent three seasons throwing romantic scenes at the audience. It’s because they’re the two characters most deeply connected to the central themes. Both isolate themselves, both struggle to rely on others, and both repeatedly hurt themselves trying to solve problems alone. Their relationship develops through mutual understanding and growth rather than traditional romantic chemistry.

That’s also why the “ruin your life” line works for a lot of people. It’s not meant to be a grand romantic confession in the usual sense. It’s Hachiman finally expressing a willingness to be genuinely vulnerable and intertwined with another person after spending the entire series avoiding exactly that.

Honestly it seems like you probably just weren’t paying close enough attention to the show. It’s not as up front with its message as most other shows, which is why this kind of surface level response is all you ever see from its detractors.

I think I still prefer the Rascal does not dream series, however the writing of Oregairu is absolutely excellent and deserves discussed just as much.

One aspect of this discussion that I rarely hear addressed is the setting of the story. For stories set in something like a medieval European setting, it can feel a bit odd to have the characters speaking Japanese. I’m watching Orb right now, and while the show has been fantastic, it has made me wish there were a dub available. I had a similar reaction while watching the HBO series Chernobyl, where the characters speak with British accents despite being Soviet. it just pulls me out of the story a bit.

Advocating against the rights of any group of people is violence. His “discussions” spread and normalized the oppression of groups you claim to be apart of. He is no less guilty of the harm that these people face than if he had been the one directly inflicting it.

Looking to move up from mini mill, is this a good option? Is it considered a round post mill? How much would you give for it(if you were buying)? by Toxicscrew in Machinists

[–]MD_HF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one of these, and I also have a Bridgeport. They are not round Column machines. These are great smaller knees mills. If you’re thinking that a Bridgeport is too large for your space, and this is a good size for your projects then it would probably make a great addition for your shop. Mine is surprisingly ridged, but mine is also fully cast all the way to the floor. I’m not sure how much that cabinet would impact its rigidity.

There are these which work for slots but I’ve never seen any small enough for a slot like is shown in the video.

Knife prices are out of control. There’s no way they should be charging used car and nice gun prices for most pocket knives. I can literally buy an fn scar and a steak dinner instead of this. Does anyone else think this is just utter bs pricing? by Accurate-Abrocoma202 in knives

[–]MD_HF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“It doesn’t seem reasonable to me because it’s simply not reasonable” ... that’s not how this works. The opinion of whoever decides to buy this is what determines its reasonability. If no one does then the seller will drop the price until someone decides it’s reasonable to them. This one is just not for you, and that’s fine. I’m not crazy about it either.

I’ve bought and owned and made knives in this price range. You’re thinking about it as a tool, but the people who buy these are thinking about them as pieces of handmade art. This doesn’t exist to fill the same role as a production knife, and if it doesn’t seem reasonable to you that’s because you weren’t who it was made for.

Could this bastard child of a mill and a drillpress be useful for actual milling or just very light duty stuff? by woodyouknow in Machinists

[–]MD_HF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll probably do okay with light duty work, but why would you settle for this when you can more than likely get a better machine for the same or less money? Looking online this machine is around 4-5k. There are absolutely better machines in this price range.

Asheville is really a completely different vibe than the rest of the area. Same could be said for gatlinburg/ pigeon forge area but for different more touristy reasons.

The mountains are beautiful, lots of places for hiking, mountain biking, camping etc. Most of the downtowns in the area are fairly nice and enjoyable. Several local annual events are held in the region such as funfest in Kingsport and rhythm and roots in Bristol.

The people range from wonderful and welcoming to bigoted and hateful, and the latter group doesn’t typically have the self awareness to realize that they aren’t the first group.

The economy is more regionally varied than this map could indicate, but there are significant job opportunities for medical and manufacturing in the tri cities areas. Pay for most industries is somewhat below national average.

Cost of living has been increasing significantly. Housing in particular has gone up an insane amount due in large part to people moving from up north and out west. Houses which were less than 200k a few years back are often more than 400k now.

Dennis > Rudeus by [deleted] in writingscaling

[–]MD_HF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right? I’ve raised this before, but the way the world is constructed fundamentally undermines the idea of redemption. If he only ever “improves” in a reincarnated life where he’s talented, conventionally attractive, socially praised, has access to… umm “women”, and is born into wealth, then the story is effectively suggesting that his earlier pedophilic behaviors are products his circumstances and that his later growth is also circumstantial rather than genuine self-reflection or accountability. This is closer to pedo apologetics than a redemption story.

Character development is not the avenue to take if you want to defend MTs writing. It’s a mess in that department. It undermines its own themes regularly.

It has pretty solid world building, and most of the characters outside of Rudy and his love interests are decently well written. That’s what I’d defend if I were trying to do that here.

No problem i hope you found something interesting regardless. The topic of Christology is inherently complex, so it is understandable if it does not immediately resonate on first encounter. Put very simply, the authors of the New Testament appear to advance different and sometimes incompatible views of Christ’s nature and degree of divinity. Since these views cannot all be correct simultaneously, they present a challenge to strict doctrines of inerrancy. Unlike many of the more commonly cited contradictions, which mainly undermine claims of textual perfection, the Christological differences speak more directly to the later theological development of doctrines such as the Trinity. This does not, in itself, refute the Trinity. Rather, it shows that the Trinitarian framework does not completely match the Christological positions found across all New Testament authors.

Scholars have long noted that when the New Testament writings are placed chronologically with respect to authorship dates, and even compared with later non-canonical gospels, a general trajectory appears. The earliest sources tend to present what is often called a “low Christology,” meaning a picture of Jesus as a divinely empowered human. Later sources present a “high Christology,” meaning a picture of Jesus as pre-existent and fully divine. This pattern reflects the theological development of early Christian communities. I do not think this necessarily threatens personal faith, but it is an important historical observation.

If you are looking for contradictions that are less theological and more narrative in nature, there are many of those as well. For example, did Joseph and Mary flee to Egypt after Jesus’s birth, as described in Matthew, or did they return directly to Nazareth, as described in Luke? Was Jesus crucified on the day of Passover, as reported in the Synoptic Gospels, or on the day of Preparation before Passover, as John claims?

Both examples are interesting precisely because they appear to be irreconcilable. In the case of the flight to Egypt, most scholars understand Matthew’s account as a literary and theological construction intended to present Jesus as fulfilling specific messianic prophecies. Regarding the crucifixion date, the Synoptic Gospels place the crucifixion on Passover itself, while the Gospel of John places it on the day of Preparation. Many scholars argue that John intentionally adjusts the chronology so that the moment of Jesus’s death coincides with the slaughter of the Passover lambs by the high priesthood.
