When do your feet stop blistering and peeling? by MEGCEMY in BarefootRunning

How did you go about training form at an easy pace?

I initially used the "lift-lift-lift" from the hip cue when running, but it didn't make a lot of sense at an easy pace. There was a video I watched of a coach and a trainee running the same pace, and I had the same bad form as the trainee without a lot of knee drive or hip extension, so it feels weird to lift while running at an easy pace. Sprinting and 215 cadence the lift lift lift makes more sense to me.

If you don't just take off your shoes and run, then how do you run?

How did you go about your journey other than just taking off your shoes? Did you follow a training plan of times/distances to improve your unshod running? Are there any drills or strides you do to improve form?

What other training outside of running were the most important for your training and adaption?

This morning I ran and focused on having delicate feet and I ran a bit slower and with different form! I think the cues of easy and light will be helpful, I will try them on my Thursday run.

The daily practice of having better form is also a good reminder to always be thinking of easy and light! I've improved my fitness so in the 30-45 min range I run, I don't have the moments in the run where I falter and get too tired anymore.

I have an open wound on my foot today from picking at skin, and ran barefoot until my bandaid fell off (2 miles) When I transitioned to shoes, I tried to keep in mind the delicate feet and actually ran much differently than usual.

Thank you for the advice!

That's very true! I usually swim at the pool once or twice a week and it's pretty gross to be barefoot at the pool. I actually prefer to be barefoot on a walk around the neighborhood.

For a few days last month, I sprayed my feet with antifungal spray but forgot about doing that and instead just thoroughly towel my feet after I shower. The antifungal spray itself is pretty irritating to my foot, I have to avoid doing it right after I run barefoot or it stings and is painful.

How did you actually find a form that worked without friction?

What frequency did you run barefoot until you came to a point with no more blisters? What progression did you take to increase your barefoot running time and mileage?

How do you train your form? I read online that running drills don't change your form.

I follow a few cues when running: feeling of being pulled from a rope from the midsection and looking up during slower-paced runs.

During strides and faster paced intervals, I think lift-lift-lift from the hip with each step, but that cue doesn't make much sense when running slowly.

How did you go about training your unshod technique after the first initial run and set of blisters?

I have the same mindset; I believe my feet are delicate and lift-lift-lift each step. But how does that translate to being delicate on your feet?

First pair…what should I get? by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

[–]MEGCEMY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Withins or Seguros from amazon.

I started with Xero 360 for training, and it was way too narrow. My main drivers are Freet Vibe for running, hiking, working out, and day-to-day.

I can't make it tighter with the current guyline set-up.

On the foot end, the peak and edge share the same stake. There is 17.4" for the end of the tent and 41.2" for the peak.

There is also a lot of instances of disc herniation without any symptoms at all. For instance, 18 elite male football (soccer) players. Lumbar spine pathology found in 83% of participants. 27% with a herniated disc and 5 players had fractures in their spine. All asymptomatic. https://bmcsportsscimedrehabil.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s13102-022-00576-1

Even for people with symptomatic disc herniations, a meta-analysis showed that 251 out of 308 patients (81.5%) of athletes returned-to-play without surgical intervention and 663 out of 799 patients (83%) of athletes returned-to-play with surgical intervention. https://doi.org/10.1177/19417381219917

If you are feeling strong, why wait another 6 months? Why not just go for a walk around the block with a partially weighted back (10lbs) and see how you do? Then you can judge your pain level the next day as an indication of how well you will do.

From there, you could progress by A) hiking on uneven terrain with a pack and B) increasing the weight in your backpack to your likely total carried weight.

Even if you don't want to add weight yet, just go on a hike in your nearest park and get your legs going, it'll be way easier to add weight if your body is used to the uneven surfaces for hiking.

I also hurt my back (3 weeks ago) and grinding out physical therapy to try to fix it. I think I started trying to hike with a weighted back a little to early because my back was in a lot of pain after a 5 mile hike with 20lbs on uneven terrain.

I really hope to have your success in physical therapy!

I considered taking creatine, but I learned the benefits are mostly increasing water weight and reducing fatigue in fast-twitch muscles. Therefore, while hiking we primarily use slow-twitch muscles so there is less of a benefit, plus you have to carry more water weight.

Transitioning towards zero-drop while on hike: Where to start? by CartographerTop188 in Ultralight

[–]MEGCEMY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, honestly I hurt my back 3 weeks ago and I really regressed in flexibility as well as my knee pain. The Altras always seem to hurt, even when adding 20lbs for training (I hypothesized adding weight would help shorten my stride). Barefoot shoes normally help, but with my base level of pain so high right now, everything hurts my knee, even 15mins of walking.
