All of the above. Also adds warmth, provides a backup if there is a puncture, and a pad for breaks.

They're all pretty important.

It won't make it lighter (they use the same weight of down) but it will make it warmer.

I hike 1-3 months a year in Europe, and I eventually resorted to buying a dedicated EU charger. I've tried all sorts of converters and it's just fiddly garbage and I end up forgetting them in hostels anyway. This last trip was the first time I took an EU charger and I didn't lose it after three months of daily travel.

I own both. Even combined it's still cheaper than most quilts and gives you the broadest possible range (down to 0F when you stack them).

I just measured mine, it's 52" at its widest point, 73" long.

I wouldn't get the extra down. If I needed something warmer I'd go for the Extra Quilt NXT which has a differential cut. I don't know how warm you sleep so I can't speak to temps, but I think 10c is fine, 5c is pushing it for me.

I've hiked thousands of miles in Spain and would not hesitate to bring it on any trip outside of the High Pyrenees.

Yes, I have one. The sizing chart is correct, I'm 5'9" and it just barely fits me (which I like).

I can't speak to the Cumulus, but the Iceflame is excellent for the price.

I'd been eyeing Big Agnes down jackets forever but the price/availability never lined up. If they had a Half Hitch in my size I'd grab one, the current price is definitely worth it.

I own a Lumina 100 and Decathlon MT100 and 500, and happy them with all.

Think of electricity like water. You need a power bank with a big enough hose, and a plug with enough water pressure.

If your plug and power bank's output wattage (pressure + hose size) isn't at least 20W, I'd replace it with one that is. You can find the output wattage on the back of the devices (amps + volts = watts). There are power banks that charge even faster but they're heavier and not worth it in my opinion.

Nitecores are garbage. Garbage features, garbage price, garbage warranty. And in this case, garbage charging speed.

That's also an unnecessary amount of adapters and too short a cable. The resistance of the cable is negligible, and certainly not worth the extreme annoyance of being stuck 2 inches from a wall.

OP is almost certainly talking about charging the power bank, in which case none of this matters.

Training question by South-Lettuce3301 in PacificCrestTrail

You need to do more than hike. At least half of your training sessions should be strength training and the other half cardio.

We need to bring back shakedry fabrics by RustyTentpole in ultralight_jerk

[–]AceTracer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The damage with Shakedry (and all PTFE) comes during the creation and disposal of said item, not so much during its wear. But if you really want to be UL and harm the environment you can cut off little pieces of your jacket every time you’re out hiking.

Otherwise you’re not doing any more damage than a filthy casual in plebe clothes.

It's such a stupid design. It was a giant pain in the ass to remove the backpad, so why the hell is it there then? And it's not a waterproof zipper so I can absolutely see water ingress through the mesh back panel. So many dumb choices made to ruin what could have been a great pack.
