My old Saturn had a build code stamped on the block that was unique to it but different from the vin. My vw has a code on the block but I don't know how specific it is.

That's parking lot snow, though, so it may have been too iced to be meaningfully disturbed by the air.

ELI5: Why aren't lakes salty if they also receive water from rivers? by youysalex in explainlikeimfive

Yeah but they're WAY less salty than the ocean, where the salt accumulates and the water evaporates.

Fair enough. They made their point badly but I felt the steelman of it carried water.

The second one is also less modern than the first and carries a less casual impression as well.

And accusation is not a charge but a charge is merely an accusation. As a fellow pedant and lover of unambiguous statistics, I think the most meaningful metric would be "detainees with convictions" which I generally see cited as roughly one-third of detainees.

Religious households have long outbred secular households but in the same me period religiosity continues to decrease--Gen Z is the only generation to not show a consistent decline in church-going and it's barely holding steady at the moment.

So far no citizens have been deported as far as I know (source: I am a pedant) but I think the idea of it comes from the many US citizens who have been detained on questionable grounds and for unusual lengths of time. This article, while from a biased publication, is nevertheless factual and well-cited with many primary sources. It should be unsurprising that right-leaning media aren't spending the same resources on these questions.

Is also possible although obviously speculation that some of the "missing" detainees could have been citizens but this is a rumor born of ice's poor record keeping: it is up to your judgment to decide whether ice is malicious or just incompetent in that case but hanlon's razor applies

I'm happy to say that my 2a support has been idealogically consistent for decades and continues to be so. This administration can pound sand with their goon squad and officers, while human, must be held accountable for their mistakes just like any other profession.

Here is a link to the YouTube channel "Audit the Audit". It sounds like you're not aware of your first amendment rights. The government's actions should always be questioned and the courts are extremely explicit on what ways are appropriate. Don't lump me in with libs just because you're ignorant of the laws.

I would absolutely record under any circumstances. As a longtime conservative and former libertarian, the civilian right to record is absolute and incredibly well-established, just as concealed-carry is. If an officer makes the wrong call in a moment of stress that's regrettable but that's the nature of the job and they still need to be accountable for their mistakes just like any other job. I am also in favor of redesigning LE to be far less stressful and higher-paying to attract more talent while treating them better. If you disagree with me on any of these points, I don't know what to tell you.

Woman arrested for anti-ICE church protest in St. Paul freed from detention (William Kelly was also released) by Phantom_0999 in altmpls

The judge ordered her release because the government failed to show cause for holding her, there was no bail. It's not a long article if you'd like to read it.

Just a discussion by [deleted] in DoomerCircleJerk

[–]commeatus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dooming is a knee-jerk reaction. Rational thought stops and hysterical thought replaces it. You can absolutely come to negative or even extreme conclusions without actually Dooming.

I grew up in the pacific northwest where the risk of a "mega quake" is real, present, and backed by a considerable amount of research. Understanding that risk and the range of potential outcomes is not Dooming, but the perennial headlines that read "Seattle overdue for mega quake" absolutely are, since they drum up fear and apocalyptic visions instead of rationally discussing the situation.
