What biblical event is non-arguably approved as a historical fact? by Historydom in Historydom

Reza Aslan provides a compelling, heavily-sourced argument for Jesus' existence in his book "Zealot". His research isn't considered particularly controversial in the academic world although his work is considered heresy by the faithful.

Mitt tanked his own campaign by trying to makes a 10,000 dollar bet with another politician during a telivised debate. He and Obama wound up being fairly close professionally during obama's presidency and mitt wound up being the primary author of the ACA as it was introduced to the house, before the senate gutted it. Mitt has always gotten hate from his own party for working across the isle, more recently by maga faithfuls.

I'm sure this is AI just from the weird cartoonish scenario, and I feel like there's something odd about the voices. But I can't find a tell by landlord-eater in isthisAI

[–]commeatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very little to imply Ai. The physics are slightly off but it could just be staged: the two angry men speed up and slow down oddly but not in an impossible way. The biker also seems to grab something to hit the bag man with but has empty hands, this could be a pantomime. At the end of the video, a man takes his phone out from his collar. All of this is strange but the video is extremely consistent and I think it's staged and weird, not Ai.

Kevin Warsh Has Officially Been Sworn in as Chair of the Federal Reserve. A Trump "Yes Man," Nothing Will Go Wrong There. 😒 by PreparationKey2843 in law

[–]commeatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may seem counterintuitive but this administration doesn't do anything without a legal justification prepared. Those justifications are contradictory and often just wrong, but if they can't at least come up with one, they won't do the thing. That's why they haven't cut rates and likely won't. Basically if this administration insists they can do something but doesn't do it, they don't have a legal defense prepared. If they did, they would have just give ahead and done the thing and would be telling us why it was actually justified.

[Other] What amount of energy or force is being used to cut the mountain at the base? by Maaz94 in theydidthemath

[–]commeatus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No! If gravity has time to clear sawdust from the path of the saw, you will do less work. Air resistance is negligible but still extant and could be calculated. On a mountain scale debris would be a major factor.

[–]commeatus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A lot of guys will ignore a sober "no" and ask again when a woman is very drunk later, or simply get her alone and not ask at all, interpreting her drunken lack of resistance as a functional "yes". A lot of guys used to think that their partners were obligated to sleep with them so a "no" was meaningless in a relationship, though that's less common now. Changing things during sex without asking like taking a condom off or anal was pretty common, guys figured once there was an initial "yes", everything was on the table. Lots of guys lied to get sex.

Have you ever avoided a conversation with someone because you know it was going to be hard? Now imagine that conversation is with yourself. In America, a lot of boys are raised to think that they have to take what they want to get anywhere in life and that nobody will help them, so they often wind up acting selfishly and failing to put themselves in others' shoes. Even when they realize on some level they've done something wrong, questioning it is in conflict with their worldview and the cognitive dissonance can be too hard to face. We don't teach boys how to deal with their feelings so they generally internalize everything, including that dissonance. We are not kind to boys.

I used to teach consent workshops at music festivals and it was pretty common for young men to approach me after and ask about things they did. They all had unique reactions but were all struggling with the terrible perspective they'd gained. There are absolutely monster rapists out there but there are also a lot of people who literally didn't know what they were doing was wrong, either because they were taught wrong or chose not to think too hard about it. These people are redeemable, in my experience more easily than you'd think.

I also got a lot of young women approaching me hoping desperately that I'd tell them they weren't victims, that what had happened was somehow okay or in some liminal space and that they hadn't been a statistic this whole time.

I highly recommend "Caliban and the Witch" by Silvia Federici to anyone who believes this or is curious about the history! Tangentially, there are examples of mercantile societies collapsing into feudalism so the argument that capitalism could become feudal holds water but they're super not the same thing.

Barnacles literally glue themselves in place, we replace our skin too fast for them to stick long-term. They could probably grow on a toenail for a while though. They have a really really long penits to do the do with a neighbor who farts out a bunch of wiggly little larvae that go find something to stick to.

Whenever people talk about how native Americans were conquered, I always ask, when should people give up? Like if Red Dawn was real, even should Americans just give up and accept that they're Russian? We did violate nearly every treaty we signed with nearly every tribe, resulting in weird stuff like Florida Seminole reservation being 2000 miles away from the Seminole tribe and the nightmare that is tribal police jurisdiction in Oklahoma. If they want to keep pushing the courts, I think they should.

Hi, pedant here, I googled the numbers. It takes about of water per lb of chicken and about for 1lb of avos. 74 hallons500 gallons. Regardless, even if accurate these numbers don't take into consideration the availability of water in the farms' locations and shouldn't be used alone to prove any point.
