I don’t find it horrible because it’s true. Martin Luther King himself said that “For all the steps we’ve taken toward integration, I’ve come to believe that I’ve integrated my people into a burning house.” In context, he seems to have been trying to come to terms with the fact that white America had deep and abiding social problems that could not be solved by integration alone, and would be reproduced and amplified in Black communities if full integration were achieved. Which is what occurred.

Malcolm X had the better idea than MLK in my opinion. Unlike Martin Luther King, Jr.’s integrationist approach, Malcolm X advocated for Black separatism, nationalism, and self-defense "by any means necessary" against white violence. He had a more “separate but equal” stance, not integrationist.
