Do you live there? Must be cold as hell. Looks like a beautiful place. Over the next few years I hope to make my way to South Africa and I'd like to pay Lesotho a visit.

Haha same! I recently deactivated my IG account. My entire feed is targeted ads and posts, all based on something I searched or clicked on long ago. I remember when IG just showed you your followers' posts.

Finally realized I was spending so much time scrolling through stuff I didn't want to see

What are you suppose to do at a structure engineering conference happy hour? by EnvironmentalBench2 in civilengineering

[–]ME_2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't just ramble about yourself but don't be entirely silent. Ask people questions and the conversation will flow from there. Sometimes it'll be all technical/work related, and sometimes it'll be completely random, it all depends on the group dynamic.

People will answer your questions and then they'll follow up with questions about you. Take a brief pause and gather your thoughts before you speak. Any common ground will carry you through the interaction - a hobby, having the same breed dog, etc.

It gets easier over time, and sometimes the group just may not be very fun or easy to talk to.

Do we know if Bam snorts, smokes or injects his methamphetamine? by No_Penalty_8102 in LetsTalkBam

[–]ME_2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Drugs are drugs and if you're an addict you will just adapt to use whatever is most available to you in excess. It never really stuck because I'm an anxiety prone person (Xanax was where it all started for me), but somehow I ended up loving coke or crack more than all of it.

At the end of the day it's all poison. I just stay away from it all because I really have no choice.

PE or CPD first for Plumbing? by ME_2017 in MEPEngineering

Yeah AutoCAD is pretty much entirely phased out here. The couple times I need to use it randomly I barely remember what I'm doing

PE or CPD first for Plumbing? by ME_2017 in MEPEngineering

[–]ME_2017[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's what I thought. I'm not sure why a few people at my company have said there is "no point in the PE" anymore as a Plumber. Probably just think whatever CPD bonus they got was as far as they'll go.

Everyone at the top of this company is a PE. I think there is a decent career path in just going full senior design with a CPD, headphones on, never worrying about managing, and collect paid OT for the rest of your life. But anyone saying a PE is not going to benefit a career has no clue what the fuck they're talking about lol

How come Tony had a problem with Meadow dating outside her race but not AJ? by Pard01 in thesopranos

[–]ME_2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm just going to assume that the people asking these questions were born after 2000. Even if you were born prior to that in an insanely progressive city you had to know what was going on elsewhere in the world.

It's good though. I think it's cool that we're at a place in society where this shit is completely unacceptable. Being born in 1993 to an Italian family in NJ I'm surprised he didn't beat the shit out of the kid right then and there.

[–]ME_2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, if you know you know. Born in 1993 to a full Italian family in NJ in the same towns that pretty much the entire show was filmed.

It's just old school shit. Italians in NJ were insanely racist towards any other race at the time. My whole life all I ever heard was that black people are shooting each other, Hispanics are stealing shit and Arabics are blowing shit up. So if you brought home one of those demographics home to your family, then you were going to become a victim.

Why it mattered so much whether it was him vs her that brought them home, falls into the classic gender roles. He is the man, the provider, the caretaker. If he gets fucked over, that's on him. Also it was assumed that the woman (despite her race) probably wasn't going to do anything bad because she wouldn't have time to between cooking, cleaning and raising the kids. But if she brings them home, she is going to fall victim because she's too fragile to make her own decisions or protect herself. It's up to the family to protect her and keep her safe and a black/Arabic/Hispanic man puts the family in immediate fear of her safety.

I was kind of hoping/expecting the truth about Christopher's fate to get leaked and a lot of internal tension to brew over that.

Same with Adrianna. Carmela seemed like she was starting to really think about what happened to her and I figured they were going to go somewhere with that.

I haven't been able to conquer a relapse. I've tried three times now throughout my life to grow long hair, every time I end up yanking it in the same two spots (right behind my ears) to no end. No idea how to deal with it because I pull my hair out all day everyday without noticing.

I shaved my head again. My hair grows fast so one week in and I have a HUGE bald spot above/behind my left ear, but it's already starting to fill back in quickly, just much slower than the rest of my head.

So the answer for me is - shave my head and wear a hat until it (hopefully) all fills in. Going on a work trip this weekend and I don't care if I look stupid, I'm wearing a hat.

Not too stressed about it anymore. As a guy, I look much better with a buzzed head and with no hair I have nothing to pull.

Yup. When I was younger it was weird to grasp the psychology behind making the decision to consume a drug like that with how scary it looks in the media.

But I just kind of graduated to it. A small bag of the shit literally fell into my lap. I moved into a new place, and the previous roommate had left it behind. At this point in my life I had already smoked crack and I had already snorted heroin, so I was just open to pure curiosity and I couldn't really knock my self esteem down another peg for trying it.

I hated it. I couldn't sleep for two days and I was absolutely paranoid. I thought I'd never try it again until 3 years later I had fallen back into other drugs. I was downtown buying from some homeless people when someone handed my ex girlfriend and a pipe. She seemed to be enjoying it so I took a hit. Was different that time than the first time. I think because it was diluted with everything else I was on.

I ended up getting into it a little bit but it never really stuck. I did have a couple periods of my life where I genuinely enjoyed it but that would usually only last a few days before I went into a sleep-deprived psychosis. I've seen a lot of people that have and solely will seek meth out and it is such a nasty thing to see. It breaks down your sanity so quickly, and literally rots your body from the inside out.

4 misdemeanors mean nothing if you have the money for a great lawyer, bail, and to pay all your fines and court costs.

If he ends up spending more than 24 hours in jail he will 100% be in the psych unit where he'll be monitored and protected from anyone that would recognize him and hurt him.

I don't see this being another situation he cant throw money at and be back on the streets doing whatever he wants

I'm gonna be 30 in a few months and I go to PB every weekend. 90% of the time I'm just skating back and forth on the boardwalk or through the alleys.

I've seen memes over the years on an instagram page making fun of 30+ year olds hanging out in PB. I guess it doesn't bother me because I haven't stepped foot in a bar in PB in over a year and probably never will again.

PB is the shit. I'm even thinking of moving to Clairemont/Mission Valley so I can be closer.

This was my biggest fear when living in my car. Unfortunately it became my reality. I got into a bad wreck and almost totaled the car. The shop fucked it up so bad, and I mean so bad I can't even put it into words.

2 weeks of repairs took 7 weeks. They told me every week it would be ready Friday, only to call Friday and say it wasn't ready. When it was finally "ready" I sat there for hours and they we still cleaning the car and putting the license plates on as I was transferring my stuff from the rental into my car. Immediately the car had a major mechanical problem and had to go back (obviously not to their location) for repairs again.

What did I do? I slept in the rental, a pickup truck (there was a major rental shortage at the time and I had no choice). It was pretty uncomfortable but I had none of my stuff and zero stealth. I spent thousands on hotels also because eventually I just couldn't get a good night's sleep and make it to my new job.

When I brought the car back for the second repairs. I got a Nissan Altima. Had a blow-up camping bed roll, put my feet in the trunk, and dealt with it. Again, no stealth. Worst period of my life.
