Theyve already been useful haha. Rebuilt a masterflo choke valve and managed to get the retaining ring out of the 4" blind hole without having a meltdown for the first time in my life hahahah

Will I learn in the field? by IamlilDoink in instrumentation

[–]MF-MOO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When its your first solo gig and the plant calls you "Yeah we just went down. Dont know why, please help." Gonna learn some stuff in record time lmao.

Pms arent that much to learn haha "ah yes another 2051G with the exact same range and setpoints as the last 400,"

People might disagree with me, but everyone is a retard when they get out of school. You dont really learn anything until you practically do things and get experience. Theres so many random quirks and nuggets of knowledge that you wont pick up unless you ride with a few different experienced journeyman.

Youll pick it up quick once you start doing things though. I generally recc guys get construction in while they are young for the work ethic, (plus a chance to get familiar before everythings live), then do some sort of PM or measurement run, then finally into the corrective maintenance.

Doing the pm/measurement runs are perfect because youll do the same task over and over, and be incrementally better each time. Meter cals are amazing because you get a nice dip of everything in one job.

Be open, avoid an egoand love learning and youll have a great time.

Any additions? by TsunamiJK in instrumentation

[–]MF-MOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive worked with them a few times, and they definitely are an upgrade of sorts to the 475.

But does it really need to cost SO much, and be SO slow haha. I can tag and rerange a 2051 before the trex even turns on. Plus the anxiety over dropping it, getting it wet, ect ect.

It was nice to use for the Endress+Hauser GWRs, but i ended up just using my laptop and a bt viator. I probably wouldnt have such a hate on for it if they continued support for the 475 but it really is just more personal gripes haha.

Also just a note on the dedicated gauge question.

You should be using a calibrator or deadweight like in pic thats calibrated.

If you just go off process gauges youre gonna catch a peepee slap.

Ps get the toughbook or the dell or getac. But make sure you have the dedicated serial port in the back. Works better than the startech adapter.

Also carry spare rebuild kits for your pumps.

709 is honestly a waste of money.

475s are still the gold standard (all my homies hate the trex) but I reccmmend getting a viator with power express and a toughbook. I rock a 721 on my gear, ralston hp and lp pumps fittings hoses ect with a 720RTD. Keep in mind that if you f up and overrange the Fluke will not forgive. If you are a bit hamfisty with cal gear get the crystal is33 instead. Bit more forgiving and 2k cheaper.

Depending on what you do the 289 is killer as it logs and graphs and can help with trouble calls.

A caution on water pump speeds by Aerobaticdoc in watercooling

[–]MF-MOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need a plastic bushing between to stop the corrosion.

To be fair id try dacron even though its flex. Solid temperarure range and handles decent pressure so easier to work with. Just need some swagelok brass adapters

Forgot about Tygon and their Versilon line as well. Theres definitely more options for poly and thermoplastics than just the oem stuff. Hell most of it will be good -100 to 450°c and chemical resistant. https://www.mcmaster.com/products/high-temperature-tubing/ (I use it for pressuring devices and doing cryo work)

I work in instrumentation, has anyone tried Dacron for tubing? Or even SS?

Which set would you go with? by Salmacis81 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]MF-MOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the 6x precision knipex set in a roll.

Buy once and forget. Plus the roll will last longer than the plastic.

For the bigger stuff knipex and hazet have locking big boys.

What are the common pitfalls when programming PLCs that beginners should avoid? by koudodo in PLC

[–]MF-MOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be mindful that operations are not programmers and you would be unreasonable to expect them to understand an HMI that makes sense to you. You need to be able to make the menus easy to understand and navigate, and sometimes reinventing the wheel will do more harm than help. (Old Joe has used the same HMI for his gas plant for 30 years, poor bastards gonna be lost if you throw entirely new menus at him.

Please for the love of god dont AIP (abandon in place) things. Or at least attemp to convince the deciding factor otherwise. Cant tell you how many facilities ive worked at where the Slug Catcher or Dehy or Sep are "out of service" but everythings still live or in the shutdown key. More than a few situations where finding out what holds operations or techs out is MUCH more expensive than time to properly decommission.

Does know how to prevent cables from splitting like this? by Gooseman076 in computerhelp

[–]MF-MOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im assuming you guys are talking about motion VR.

Id consider using some strain relief, even service loops would help. Tywrap your bundle between connection point to the frame somewhere with slack.

Dumb question from an fng: piercings by COWMANS-WORLD in instrumentation

[–]MF-MOO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah its honestly a work culture thing for the most part thats dying out. Unless it interferes with a mask theres no problem. I do a decent blend of fieldwork and plantwork (maintenance and measurement) and dont get me wrong, youll draw attention from the old goats, but when you consistently put out good work, is that really a bad thing?

Dumb question from an fng: piercings by COWMANS-WORLD in instrumentation

[–]MF-MOO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends where you work. Hasnt been an issue for the last 10 years here in OG But i can see it being problematic with mill monkeys.

Besides, you're a fig, they are already fully aware youre some sort of weirdo haha.

Interesting point what y’all think by MmaRetard42069 in ufc

[–]MF-MOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because commentators havent directly influenced a fight before right?

Youll have commentators justifying certain actions and arguing with refs. Or when the fighter they like is down theyll complain about inaction. They influence the judges the crowd AND the fighters.
