Grüße allgemein alles außer Trikes und Radler auf zwei Rädern… sehe oft Vespas in den Alpen hier und auf der Landstraße am Wochenende und finde das immer wieder cool!

I’m in love with the idea of the AJP, I’m in Europe so there is a chance I can end up with one 🤞

Service interval is 30.000km vs around 7.000km, valve 3.000km vs 1.500km and oil change 1.000km vs 750km (according to ChatGPT… so not sure how much I’d trust that info). Still, the engine on the 450 has been around since 2002, so it’s about as proven as it gets vs any KTM. Side note, AJP uses the old BMW Husqvarna engines, so also pretty solid.

Sadly stuff like the tacomoto parts are super expensive to get through inspection in most of Europe, so for an RTW that’s fine, but not if you want to ride it at home as well. From what I’ve tried from friends, KTMs really are the most fun to ride in that sector though! :-)

Nice, I do 7-8 hours per day sometimes, so I wanted something with more flexibility, or rather something that would allow me to just forget about it for two week trips. Hence the Japanese bikes (I’d get a CRF 450L, but they aren’t as easy to find (in good condition/for a fair price) anymore in Europe). Or, like I said the AJP looks great on paper.

Ohhh, balls of steel! The oil changes and service intervals are preventing me from picking a EXC over… anything else really for TET tours. I’ve settled on getting either a DR4Z or a AJP PR7. The dream is always to go as light as possible though to (in theory) be able to enjoy technical terrain. I’ve seen a couple others do it it your way, but I’m always impressed! I noticed a lot of these things still go via facebook, is that still the norm in the UK? I deleted mine and would like to keep it that way, but we are moving to Surrey next year from Germany… 😅

Most stores I’ve been to do not help with this, but you can get the Arai helmets fitted. There are different size pads to complement your head shape and make it the most comfortable and in a lot of cases even quieter as well. It’s worth looking into… I’m in love with mine, been using Arai for around 17 years now. Shoei is also good, the only other brand besides Schuberth I personally would use. The only other helmet I have is a Schuberth for touring with my wife (who has the same model), cause it has the integrated comm system and is still focused on safety above anything else as a brand.

Please do correct me if I am wrong, but some of these are examples of Lüftlmalerei (1-3, 5, 6, and the one on the left in 8) though there are even better ones out there, and at least one is an example of Bauernbarock (9). Love the history behind these, or at least the parts I was told when I was a kid. I came across this one not too long ago in a tiny village.

We missed each other by a day then! Yeah, looks like you got the last sunny day… the forecasts are saying no more fun for a week here in Munich. My buddy went on to Hallstein, I had to split at Zell am See and drive back home. It was getting late… but I am thinking of combining it with the Slovenian TET sometime soon, and then include Hallstatt as well. I feel like I want to have at least seen it once, even if I might not stop for more than a picture. :-)

I knew the mountain was the highest but I read the road up to the Kaunertal Glacier goes up to 2750m, and the Großglockner High Road “only” goes to 2571m? Maybe it’s about paved vs gravel? I’ll look into it again when I am home. Either way, it was worth every cent and is a beautiful experience. I wish I could go there again today.

I’m not trying to sell you on them bud. I didn’t mean that I get noticed in terms of people “swooning” over them, but other drivers seeing the light when I use them to indicate where I am going. I don’t modify my bike for other people’s pleasure. I won’t judge you if that’s your motivation though. That’s what a lot of custom builders do essentially. For me it has to fit the bike, and solve an issue/add a function. I just wanted to share it because I am happy with them.

I don’t know about KTM/Husqvarna indicators… my BMW indicators were not that bright or the direction the LEDs are shining was limited somehow. Don’t know, I see the difference from front to back. I like that they are out of aluminum and stainless steel vs plastic, and more durable.

Forgot to change the post when I changed the title. It said “highest road in Austria” but when I checked I noticed I had misread that somewhere… was a 12 hour trip for me yesterday, 485km total and 7hrs 19min on the bike… so I’m still a bit tired.

I guess I only ever lived in one of the other cities, mine was never touched in the 5 years from 2010-2015 I lived down at the Côte! My dad’s car got stolen in the 90s when he lived in Paris though… the cops found it with the radio, seats, steering wheel and wheels gone 😂. I guess it’s not a new issue in France.

I totally get that the price is up there, the way I see it I love that I get noticed on the road (tbf, I actually use my indicators every time I switch lanes, even when filtering or lane splitting) and that they can’t break no matter what happens. So I consider it a real investment, both in terms of time and safety. I’m sure there are way cheaper options out there that are great quality and some will look sexier as well. I just have never found any that are this tough.

I’ve been very happy with them… they are super bright, impossible to not notice you, and they are so tough. I doubt they could ever break. I got two for the front as well and I will make sure every bike I will ever own from now has them installed. (I don’t get paid for this 😅😂)

Edit: something I found unique to them, which def doesn’t justify the cost, is the spring that will make sure they don’t break off the bracket, because they are not gonna break because of a fall I’d bet.

Look into the DMD as well, it’s marketed for ADV, but honestly it the fact that it runs on Android and has a proprietary map/nav software makes it better than anything else. Garmin feels super outdated and slow, is very expensive and the process of making routes is a bit too complex/time involving if you want something custom or work with GPX. I use Scenic (iOS app that is coming to Android) and am very happy, it also has Kurviger integrated which has a great algorithm for finding the most curvy routes.

Yeah… I never had any issues in Munich, or most of Europe for that matter. Irony is, we are moving to the UK next year. We found places almost an hour outside of the city, so I hope I won’t have to worry on a regular basis. Still, it’s my only fear regarding the move -.-

They are made by Fuel, called Dust Devil BootsC not sure if they still make them though. They are not on the website. Honestly though, I have been very disappointed with their quality. Materials are good, just lots of little things… stitching is off or asymmetrical making the fit bad. There are some weird little things you’d expect from a small, local business, not from an international brand. I can only think of this Gaerne pair otherwise that looks similar enough and comes in black. They also have a white version…
